It wasn't just Ellis leaving. It was her leaving with Meredith, and taking his baby away. That broke him. She never gave thatcher a choice in custody she just decided that she would take Meredith. Meredith grew up and Thatcher did not know how to be there for him. Everybody gives Richard sympathy, but no one gives Thatcher sympathy when the reality is that Ellis robbed both men of a chance to get to know her daughter.
@@lauraschoenborn3544 that is true on both counts but thatcher knew he had a child ad did nothing to fight Ellis for his child or the right to see her and he could have but was afraid of Ellis and just walked away
@@dorislacaze8475 Thatcher was weak, but at the same time I sympathize with him. Yes, he should have fought harder rather than leaving Meredith with an emotionally abusive and absent mother. But also knowing Ellis she would not have let him. I honestly think she moved Mer to Boston so Thatcher could not find them.
@@lauraschoenborn3544 No thatcher knew where they are but he was reluctant to fight fir her daughter he just forgets about her and start a new family, he could have atleast go to court and fight for her he could have got the custody because Ellis never cared about Mer.
I know right he's like, the two guys captured the awkwardness of this moment perfectly. Webber's nervousness, trying to leave before Thatcher recognizes him. And Thatcher's pure bitterness towards Richard.
I always loved this because George has no reason to do any favours for Meredith at this point, but he still tries to spare her pain because he's always a good person even to people who don't deserve it.
@@thundercookie1014 Cristina does a great takedown of Meredith for her behaviour, Meredith knew exactly what she was doing, she used his feelings his feelings for her to use him for sex as a distraction from her own problems.
J E Lyon George was just as responciable for the bad sex ,as mer, she was sad Lonely depressed rejected George had a crush on someone he knew didn’t feel that way about him he knew she was in love with Derek and only cared for hi as a friend and yet he took advantage of her sad Lonely feeling and pursued a sexual encounter with her yes she should have said your my friend be my friend but she was feeling rejected again and he was there telling her all the things she needed to hear but he should have been her friend , so George needs to stop his nuts and man up to his part of the responsibility for a bad sexual encounter cause they didn’t have sec they had heavy make out not sex
@Kranky. K! THANK YOU! she changed her mind, that’s all! she was drunk and he was fine, don’t hook up with someone that’s so wasted, they can’t even give their consent. i hate how the show made her the bad cop for something very normal.
Wait am I the only person who really dislikes George, like the way he treated Callie and it was unfair of him to express his feelings to Mer when she was vulnerable
The look on George's face when Thatcher says that Meredith came to see him a couple weeks ago is clearly the moment her forgave Meredith for what happened because he finally understood why she was upset and acted the way she did.
She didn't need forgiving. He KNEW she was still devastated over Derek, he just went in because he wanted her and didn't care about her feelings at all.
I never really liked Thatcher... He's a self-righteous arse, who abandoned his daughter to the woman who 'broke' him, and didn't ever come back for her... Toxic relationships are horrible and Ellis and Thatcher were the epitome of a toxic relationship... But I hate that Thatcher doesn't even seem aware of the damage he did to Meredith, not just in leaving her, but in leaving her alone with Ellis, until he comes back with his new, whole, pretty family and tiptoes around like he can't decide if he even wants to take responsibility for being her dad in the first place...

Meredith grew up and Thatcher did not know how to be there for him. Everybody gives Richard sympathy, but no one gives Thatcher sympathy when the reality is that Ellis robbed both men of a chance to get to know her daughter. The thing is Thatcher felt uncomfortable because he did not raise Meredith. By the time she came back in he did not know how to be a father. Susan pieced him back together and he had the chance to be a loving father. Ellis was a cold woman who only cared about herself.
The song for these scenes is just absolutely perfect for the scene. It brings so much hurt, anger, heartbreak to the surface between two men who have such a bitter history and then the scene where George tells Thatcher how amazing Meredith truly is.
I think Thatcher knew Meredith was till around because when George lied that she had gone, Thatcher’s hesitation showed that he knew George was lying and she was still in the hospital.
@@Eliza-zr4en not specifically. I think Ellis took Mer away and moved to another place so that thatcher wouldn't see mer again. However, according to Webber, thatcher never fought for legal rights for Meredith, and just let her go with Ellis, which shows he gave up on the family he created with Ellis.
Ellis could have just left Meredith with thatcher, Meredith would have been happier that way. Like why did Ellis take her? She didn’t even want kids, it just doesn’t make sense. Both were childish parents who should have never had kids
I never thought of that but you were right. How much happier Mer would have been with a family who loved her. Thatcher would have learned how and I am sure Lexi's mom would have love another daughter. Such a shame.
What a terrible excuse of a father. His child might look like the wife that broke him but she is not her mother and she certainly didn’t ask to be born to these two parents. She deserved none of the rejection and hurt she got. I don’t know how his new wife accepted a man who didn’t fight for his child.
@@anaityketihw Thatcher was weak, and Ellis took meredith and made sure he had no contact with her at all! He did love Meredith, but as an adult he was never sure how he fit in to her life after not being able to raise her.
