Top tip for those alu bolts. My water pump is on order and I think I would have missed that bolt-breaking warning and turned a half hour job into a 3 day ordeal. Phew

I followed this exactly, but it wouldn't take much coolant when I tried to refill it - only about 3L (and a LOT more than than came out of it). I did the thing with the heater and ran it for a while, squeezed all the hoses and only got a tiny bit more in. The heat never comes on, so coolant is not circulating. I've tried a ton of things, even jacked up the front end. Any ideas on what I can do to get the coolant circulating?

Do the replacement bolts come with the new water pump? I went on VWs website and it says the bolts are discontinued. I did find them online but I am wondering why VW discontinued the bolts.

There is no regular interval. Replace it when it leaks. Or if the car has high mileage and you have to remove it to do other work. When the bearing seal starts leaking, you can see coolant under the pump, either with a mirror, or remove the dust shield underneath and look with a flashlight.

Great video and appreciate your tips and tricks. Especially the steel to aluminum bolt variation and the air usage. What are your thoughts on timing chain replacement or maintenance on these 3.0l? I have 2014 with a stage 2 Malone tune. Def deleted and running straight through. Absolutely amazing engine, performance and mileage. I'd like to start thinking about checking the chain tolerances. Perhaps new tensioners? Or is it a complete replacement? I'm at 130k. But 90k of those have been with the tune, so it runs a touch heavier wear than stock, I'm guessing.

on touareg 2011 3.0 tdi i drain coolant and change water pump and now is cooling on issue radariators hose is hot or in coolant tank cold and heater not working

I have a 2012 Q7 TDI 3.0 and my engine looks slightly different that that. My Thermostat housing is located just above and to the left of the water pump pulley. I don't even see it on the engine in this video. What am I missing?

If you have all the bits and parts needed, the job dose not look that hard to diy !!! Dealer would most likely charge $500-800. I didn't notice a thermostat, is it located elsewhere in engine bay ? Is it also a simple job to replace ?

For a 2012 Q7 do you need to bleeding air out of the coolant system? if so where is the bleed point?

I believe you just run the engine with the cap to the reservoir off - maybe 20mins or so. Also run the heater on hi temp while doing it

There is a bleed screw behind the oil filter located on the top of the aluminium casing

Brian beautiful video. I have a 14 Touareg with same TDI engine. How long does the OEM pump last? How much for the water pump? Can you provide the bolt thread and pitch? I’ll order a set from bolt depot in advance.

Longtrailside Thank you for watching. Volkswagen Mercedes BMW and probably a few other European cars all use aluminum bolts on all sorts of parts.

@@HowtoAutomotive Thanks for educating me on this. I stopped working on any European cars years ago. Though if i come across this I will know that they are one time use bolts. I am suprised though that the pump kit didn't come with new bolts, since it is mandatory to replace them.

Longtrailside This Pump comes with either or steel or aluminum bolts so I guess that’s why they don’t include them in the kit.

Hi. when i did this. i notice some oil leaking from one of bolt holes. Was fine for three months but now i can see oil leaking from around the water pump. Help !! please.

Front crankshaft oil seal. Mine started leaking only 3 months after dealership replaced my water pump. It was a cheap part and only took the 3 hours to replace.

@@homopolemicus3449 I don't have video. I don't know if it was just coincidence or the service department damaged the seal when replacing my water pump, but I wasn't there. I don't know if there is any oil from the pump seems unlikely.
