This is unedited raw gameplay footage of the current state of Star Citizen. A month ago, I created a similar video, linked at the top right of the screen, where I tested Version 3.22.1. The goal of this series is to log Star Citizen’s development, by testing core gameplay fundamentals. For those who don’t want to watch the previous installment, the experience was quite boring, bugs were obvious, and the game caused my recording software to crash several times. Keep in mind that I am not playing Star Citizen at its fullest potential, both in this installment and the last. This is my first time playing 3.23. I will simply spawn, gather equipment, get in my ship, then test space and dismounted combat. Let’s see what CIG has for us.
Final thoughts. I played 3.23 for almost 3 hours with only one recording crash, while 3.22 caused 4 recording crashes within an hour and a half of gameplay. I am now able to make Star Citizen content more consistently if that’s something people would like to see, and that’s a huge step forward for me. The new character customizer seems to be the exact same thing we had before, with updated UI and a hardly functional sculpting system of which doesn’t even sculpt your character. All it does is behave like the previous version’s blending slider but annoying. Please, for the love of Jesus, make dismounted combat actually interesting. Suppression mechanics, bleedout, hit and wound reactions, limbs being harmed, fractured, or severed preventing certain types of movement or weapon handling. There is a million things I have in my brain that would improve Star Citizen’s dismounted gameplay, since I design infantry gameplay as a job. If you guys would like to see a rant video about this subject, let me know. I don’t know how I feel about the new interaction system. As of right now, I have had mostly negative experiences with it. Perhaps I just need to learn the workarounds for its issues, as I did with the previous interaction system. Overall, the radial thing is pretty cool, but I dislike quick interactions for now and wish there was a way to disable it. It’s inconsistent; some objects use quick interactions, and others do not. The new quick-loot UI is cool but has bugs. Nothing else to say about it. Magazine repacking is very nice, but I wish they did it similar to DayZ. In DayZ, you can find different ammunition types and hand-load each round into your magazines. Star Citizen’s magazine repack is extremely quick, which I dislike. There isn’t a consequence for carrying half empty magazines. Where in a game like DayZ, something like that can get you demolished. I don’t mind mastermodes, but it seems basic. Hit a button to go faster, then hit the same button to go pewpew. I need more time with it to get a serious opinion, along with more dogfighting experience since the MISC Prospector I was dueling was half invincible. Some features appeared to not work, or its just user error since this is literally my first time playing 3.23. The new gimbals thing is meh, I don’t see many pros or cons to it. It feels like a sidegrade. Personally, I enjoyed the older system where there was more sandbox to ship design. Gimbals allow you to aim easier but you equip less powerful weapons, or you can go fixed with higher powered weapons. There are some other changes, like new ship explosion effects and recoil. I liked the older ship explosions more and weapon recoil is meh. Take a look at Arma 3’s Animated Recoil Coefficient Changer mod for satisfying recoil animations. I love and hate the dynamic crosshair. I dislike how the more you shoot, the cone of your gunfire increases magically. In real life, wherever you point your weapon is where your shots are going to land. If a game wants to have pointfiring be less accurate than ADS, increase recoil, increase weapon bobbing as you’re moving, and boom you’re done. The medical system is also still terrible, being based off of hit points. I was bored of hit points 15 years ago.
