Jeremy, In our 425 stuff we generally have a SS that travels with strength and in 2x2 we would align the SS to the back. We do not like him with the open B Gap. For the 3-3 video I was just showing base movements with simple coverage concepts behind it.

Coach, really like this video, this is one i dont think i ever watched all the way through! Early on, when you talk about the LBs sliding based on which stack backer is part of the rush, are they sliding pre-snap or post-snap? Also, in the spots you talked about having to move guys and teach more as a result, IMO in addition the other big issue with that is that it destroys your disguise on where the 4th rusher is coming from, which is one of the main reasons i would look to run the 3-3 stack. If your will comes when you move the mike and sam to account for that, that aint foolin nobody lol

Yea the disguise is the tough part, but i would rather be lined up and play then get beat out of alignment. Fooling people is cool, but sometimes you to be lined up and just beat someone's tail!!!!!!

The problem with football is not everybody talks the same terms. It gets confusing. Look at brophy' blog, smart football, coach Huey, and anything in general related to football. Don't shy away from defense because of terminology you will get better.

Not sure what you mean by #3 going to quarters side and then vertical, but in both coverages I had on the board the Mike would not have 3 vertical.

Can u do cover 4 vs 5 wide out

As long as you have 5 dbs it's relatively similar. 3-3 just has more movement which helps a lot of HS teams without prototypical DL players

Coach, at 18:55 you start discussing your split field coverage vs. 2x2. The Sam and SS align away from the RB in shotgun. I suppose my question is why is the SS providing the overhang to the weak side and are your LBs static in alignment or do they swap for strength?

7 years later, man a lot has happened since you commented lol but a lot of teams line him up away from the back because most run plays will happen opposite the back because of the way he has to take the handoff. Just my opinion. Not concrete.

Wonderful stuff coach, clear and concise. Haven't looked so forgive me if you have covered this...but 12 personnel, ace formation...from 3-3 stack would you walk presanp into over look? what is your preference. Seems to be dbl tight is the way to go vs the stack. Thanks for your time!

I would adjust with coverage first, quarters read side lock man away. I would not change the front unless I absolutely had to. Then the offense is dictating to you what to play.

Thomas MacPherson Love that answer, new DC trying to convince old 43 guys the validity of split zone with 42/33 looks...have loved it for years...also love not allowing O to dictate!

Split Field will definitely help by not letting the Offense dictate what you play or how you adjust. When you have a few wrinkles to each side it is even better.

Thomas MacPherson our DB coach that was already in house has a couple of zone and man wrinkles he has used for years...perfect match. You incorporate any of the smoke schemes from TCU at all? Should I be able to find that on you u tube channel? What you have provided will be a gold mine for what I need to teach this winter and spring. Appreciate your hard work!

Hi Coach Mac, Coach Mac here from Italy, that's right Italy. Believe it or not Italy for quite a few years has been a contender in the American Football arena here in Europe. Anyway, to make a long story short, I'm the Offensive Coordinator for a new rookie team just starting this season here. In my division we play 9 man, so my request is for a simple, easy to execute Defensive formation. Reason is we just played a friendly and got our behinds handed to us, I don't have a lot of time to spend with the defense, because I'm focusing all my energy on Offense. If possible, maybe just direct me to one of your videos and I can figure out the rest. If you need more info, I can collaborate in any other format you desire. BTW, I appreciate your time and effort to make your experience available, I've gained a great amount of new ideas from your video's. Sean McIntosh (#81) WR Tulsa Hurricane '81.

Coach Mac, could you do a video on split field coverage using a true 3-4 defense?

Coach, I find that I follow your offensive videos much better than your defensive ones, due to the fact that I'm not well-versed enough in gap responsibilities, pattern matching/reading, block recognition, etc. Terms like palms dropper, fall-in run defender are over my head. Can you point me to any web resources that teach defense at a level a notch under what you teach. I want to catch up so I can get more out of ur def videos.
