I was on a school trip to a museum and they fired up one of these while i was in the toilet and im traumatised by this sound to this day

The dial tone just makes the whole thing even scarier

Frankly, the weird computer sounding thing that happens after every "This is only a test" is probably creepier than the actual siren

in nebraska they have tornado sirens. tested the first saturday of every month from march until september. they are programmed with different alert sounds. long steady sound means severe weather, pulsating with rise and fall is to gather volunteer fire fighters, and rise and fall sound means enemy attack

I remember hearing one of these go off a few months ago, didn't even warn me that it was a test, so it scared the absolute shit out of me

I remember living near one as a kid. These things have such a bass to them that they give you that adrenaline feeling in your gut when they go off. Nothing quite like it. I’ve heard sirens in over 13 different states while traveling and nothing sounds as threatening as these.

In Alabama, we have a tornado siren test every first Wednesday of a new month, and everyone forgets about it. It’s also the same siren as the nuclear siren but without the “this is a test.” So every now and then everyone forgets about the siren and thinks the world is about to end.

When I was a little boy in California, they used to test the air raid sirens and the teachers would teach us “duck and cover” where we’d have to crawl under our desks and wait for the teacher to tell us we can come out. Those air raid sirens used to scare the hell out of me and I’d cry my eyes out. I was in kindergarten and those early grades (1st, 2nd). To this day, the sound of an air raid siren makes my stomach tighten. Even today, they never mean anything good. It’s either a tsunami, a tornado, or you’re getting nuked. This video was a cringe trigger for me. LOL! Thanks for sharing.

For everyone wondering why it says it's a test so many times - notice how it rotates towards a different direction each time? That way, everyone around can hear that it's a test clearly, and not just one general area of which the siren was pointed during the first warning.

So, let me check if I got this right: This was a.... uuuh... a, test perchance?

They test the tornado sirens where I live in NE Georgia on the first Tuesday of every month. I can hear several that span the county, so the sound comes from all directions in varying tone and pitch. Some of them spin, which adds to the unsettling symphony. The only time they skip a test is if that first Tuesday has rainy weather, as not spook the community.

I love when they test the tornado sirens locally, and when the closest few turn off, you can hear the others in the distance turning off one by one.
