The last weekend in August 2021 was the Waushakum Live Steamers annual meet in which many people from all over bring their small scale (3.5" & 4.75" gauge) and larger scale (7.25" gauge) live steam, gas and electric locomotives to run at the beautiful Waushakum track. I got the opportunity to run an amazing 3.5" gauge pacific built in 1938 by Charles Chabot. It was great to meet all sorts of awesome people involved with the live steam hobby and see all of their locomotives. Thank you Jim for letting me take your locomotive out on the track. It was a great time and a great weekend!

Wow, it's hard to believe how much power there is in those small locomotives! Do they ever shoot off the elevated tracks when derailed??

We didn't have any major derailments with the locomotives when I was there but the riding cars definitely come off now and then. If a locomotive did come off at speed on a curve, there's a decent chance it could take the plunge...

We always have derailments with 7.5" gauge it seems.

it is recommendable to make a steam boiler cylinder from a steel sheet?

While you can technically roll a steel sheet into a boiler barrel, it's not usually necessary for small locomotive builders to do so with the availability of steel tube in larger diameters (3" and greater in dia). Most of the time model builders will roll copper sheets into barrels due to the malleability of copper compared to steel.
