I like "most common problem" vids, thanks Shawn! To give an example, I HAD a 2000 Chevy Venture that blew a head gasket, I was told it was a common problem for Ventures. It only had 75,000 miles on it, really pissed me off. The engine never over heated to warp the heads. That was the only trouble we had with it, other than that, it was a really nice van. It went bad soon after the final payment too, dammit.
Thanks so much man, we recently bought a 2011 chrysler 200 hardtop vert. The girlfriend fell in love with the car's looks. Anyway long story short, car has 64k miles on it and it started making a squealing noise, and when it would squeal, it would also make a loud noise, like a bad lifter or rod knock almost. pulled the pass side inner fender skirt, and changed the belt. Only about half the belt's width remained. While I was in there I noticed that our harmonic balancer was indeed cracked all the way around the rubber part. The noise was because it was loose enough to kick slightly sideways out of the true alignment with the crank bore. so it was scaring the gf at drive thru places, she would hear her new car knocking and squealing as it idled and she ordered frappes. Our anchor is still under power train warranty, and we have an appointment for the engine service guy at our local dealership monday. Im hoping that damper is covered under p.t. warranty, as it is something with the potential to cause catastrophic engine failure, bad crank bearings, ect. If it isnt, I will be changing it myself. Could you give us a rough estimate on the new damper, money wise? thanks. by the way, this sint the first time your vids have helped me. I had a 2.2 chevy s-10 with a fuel problem, and changed a lot of parts, come to find out it was an injector seal. Keep posting, I love watching the builds on stuff. Any updates on the trike?
Good video. My T&C is making a clicking noise while warming up. Click clack click clack. I think it is this. It is on 121 000KM. I had to recently replace the belt tensioner and the water pump, also spark plugs and leads. It seems everything is dying at this mark. Once repaired though it's an amazingly powerful engine for a huge vehicle.
G'day from New Zealand Shawn. I always enjoy your videos. I especially like the Tankenstein project. I always wanted a Bren Gun Carrier, but they are scarce and very expensive here. Some were made here back in the 1940's
240z2011 Yes they are getting hard to find and parts for them as well. That's why I didn't try to restore this one one. It was to hacked up and missing way to much
The front seal needs replacing when removing the balancer, I agree. Also, it's a good idea to put some silicone on the diameter end of the crankshaft, especially when it's not a pressed fit. Oil will work its way between the balancer and the crank causing leaks. When you took that bolt off, you can clearly see the oil coming out.
Sexy belt you have there. Haha! Just kidding! If it’s one thing that annoys me it’s when a person ignores such a simple fix (probably thinking it’s worse than it is) that turns into a bigger problem, then they want me to fix it for ‘em for free. Freaking family.... Can’t live with ‘em, can’t live without ‘em. Good video by the way. Short and straight to the point. 👍🏽
you gonna show getting the T/A out too ? just curious. just bought one of those garages last night like what you're keeping that in also , hoping it holds up here. it sure was a heavy awkward beast.
I should make another video of it now. Had it all waxed up and the one side looks like brand new. I need to paint the drivers side door. the car tent held up so far but you have to keep the snow off of them
Shawn, I have a 1997 Chrysler Tnc. I replaced the belt tensioner about 8 months ago, it was making a grinding, clicking sound. All is good now. Well. this morning I heard a click, click, click sound coming from the general area of the belt tensioner again. How, often do aftermarket belt tensioners go out? This is a great van even at 20 years old and I really can't afford to buy another vehicle. HELP!
Is this the same Pentastar engine like those in the Dodge Journey's? Also doesn't the 3.6L engine require a pulley remover specific to Dodge/Chrysler engines? Looks like all you did is unbolt it and then pulled it right off without any issues. The pulley has holes which look like where a pulley remover would fit inside for that specific purpose.
Using a Timing Light to set time on Toyota Tacoma ,(4cyl)and timing mark kept moving. Turned out harmonic balance outer ring was spinning on rubber dampner. Ring slid off backside and was grinding hole into oil pump housing, quitely. Timing Light only way I noticed , by accident.
Now if that was me I'd have the torches out, bfh, drill and bits, 3 different kinds of pullers, and the big screwdriver out. 2 days later of tryin an swerin an finally comes off. Oh wait, that actuallly happened. Sorry for bitchen. Good job Shawn.
im getting a squeaking/churping noise like a hard drive from a cp, I used a stethoscope and the noise had a higher pitch to it when I put it next to the harmonic balancer(as the car is on). i just changed the belt and notjing changed. idk know if it is the HB. I will look into it more, but does anyone know what else it could be? 2011 dodge charger 3.6l nice vid bro
Ah thats why my belt came off and front of my engine ate itself rad hoses and all i replaced belt as well as belt tensioner wheel now it makes a horrible buzz at high rpms and squeals at low rpm especially cold
