Watchfinder & Co No kidding, we're a lot of simple mortals who dream with nice watches, but, these "affordable alternatives" are even so expensive for some of us. Me included. Can you be so kind to recommend us something else?
jeaz103 I can ! For the sub you would go for steinhart. For the iwc Flieger you could go with victoronix Swiss army (military look with the eta automatic ) for the Patek you could go with with Casio or Seiko chrono ( but I am afraid those would be quartz ) ( the last one is sloppy of course as there are no good cheap chronograph... it’s just an expensive complication )
If I am not mistaken, it was Longines, who patented the first Chronograph, it was Longines Hour Angle watch, that Lindbergh used, when he made the first flight across the Atlantic .... and it was Longines stop watches that timed Olympic sports events from the beginning of modern games. The Longines watchmaking history goes way back to 1832, nigh on 20 years before Patek Philippe came to existence. There are obviously few differences between movement finishes e.g. Patek watchmakers spend considerably longer time, scallopping and hand polishing movements, which in many instances, are Swatch (Lemania) made movements. Patek throughout their history, have been known to buy complete movements from other watchmakers ... so to me, that devalues the brand, when compared with luxury brands like Breguet, Jaeger LeCoultre, or Girard Perregaux. Longines brand has been around for a long time and unlike Patek Philippe, they have never got bust .... so that must count for something.
I think "affordable" should always be thought of as a comparative, not an absolute. First, a thing can be affordable in relation to your income potential. I currently don't make any money, so I think of an affordable meal as about 3€. My girlfriend makes almost 90k CAD/year so to her, an affordable meal is 20CAD. Second, a thing can be affordable in relation to other things that compete with its purpose. Average rent for a studio in downtown Helsinki is about 900€/month, so if you can find a studio that only costs 750€/month, then that studio is affordable in relation to most other apartments.
That Longines Heritage is dope! Do a review on fashion watches, i.e. Nixon, G-Shock, etc. I just want to hear what you have to say. Please and thank you. You guys are the best!
Agreed.... Same basic movement as some of the older submariners, just as well made, just as water resistant and just as good looking, but for a fraction of the cost. Was my first Dive watch, and I love it.
My personal alternative to the Rolex Submariner is the Tag Heuer Aqua Racer 500M WAK2110.BA0830. I've owned it for a little over 3.5 years. I bought this watch before I knew anything about watches. The movement isn't anything to write home about but I love the way it wears and how it looks. Especially the horizontal textured lines on the black dial. No regrets. Love your channel!
That Longines looked the best out of all 6 watches! Stunning colors of Hands! My affordable alternatives would only be from Japanese watchmakers like Seiko or Citizen. Seiko makes every kind and type of watch with amazing finish and quality+durability.
I never quite understood the "greatness" of IWC...I never thought of IWC as being up there with Rolex and definitely not anywhere near Patek. To me they are something that is a bit hyped and around the level of Omega for prestige.
one of the older Atlantic Worldmasters with 52 jewels was about 300-400$ a year or two ago. i got one that belonged to my great-grandfather and i really love it, a true classic!
I did almost the oposite. I bought a Longines watch which cost the same as a Rolex airking. Onestly, i had to buy a Breguet, which would sertanly fits me.
Very good alternatives; If you want a watch that looks like the most iconic and expensive watches - and is not a fake. Or a homage. A useful guide. Thanks.
A nice nomos sets you back at least 4k, sin is even worse and please dont mention the sin 104 as a cheap alternative. There's no blander watch on history :D
You can buy 1 time piece from above or 5kg of Timex Men's Expedition Field Chronograph Watch. Both ways you will have a time piece... there is high quality in high quantity too.
An alternative to the Rolex Explorer I would be the Longines Conquest. A stunning watch at a very reasonable price. And a 'persolality' of it's own, in my humble opinion.
I’ll take a vintage Gruen. After all they were “the Rolex” of their day. So much so Rolex even moved into Gruen’s old building after they went out of business. If I’m not mistaken Gruen even invented the first men’s wristwatch. I’m not talking about the pendent watches that nurses used to wear. The ones that were converted into wristwatches either.
I agree with the first pair, I LOVE the second pair (although the ORIS big crown, along with a whole slew of them would also be good), and the third pair...nice try given that it is an AC haha!
For me it was the Maurice Lacroix Aikon. I've been lusting over an AP but simply can't pay BMW money for a watch. The Aikon is clearly inspired by AP RO, but it has enough original design to it so it doesn't feel like a blatant rip off.
904L is NOT proprietary, it’s an alloy developed outside Rolex and has been used for marine applications years before Rolex started using it. It’s about as”proprietary” as 316L
The attraction of an expensive watch is the fact that it is expensive. It's pure psychology when it comes to the watch market but we like to buy into it because it makes us feel good and successful.
What’s your opinion on the 50’s/60’s Tudor oysters with the Rolex cases and crowns? I was considering one with a leather strap as an alternative to my submariner. I like the history of it and from what I understand, whilst they weren’t in house Rolex movements they were built to a similar standard?
My affordable alternative is my Gucci diver, ok it’s quartz but what a watch, I have a limited edition Longines an or is big crown pilot but my go too is the Gucci.
I desire to get a Tag Heuer Carrera someday and came across a Tag Heuer dealer that sold refurbished Tag Heuer watches. He said they were not used but had a blemish on them such as a small scratch on the crystal, etc. the watch retailed for $2,700 and was being sold for around $1,700. My question is, is this a good buy or should one stay clear of a refurbished watch.
These watches definitely have some features that are likable , although i would change out the leather strap for a nylon strap on all of them only my preference !
Great choice in watches, the Oris 65 is probably one of the most beautiful watches out there!!! Can we see some alternatives to the panerai, as well as audemars piguet (I hope I spelt it right!!!)
Christopher Ward, ETA 2824-2 & Hamilton Khaki manual 2824-1 Seiko 5 series - Citizen Night Hawk. Camy Royale (superb watch) Swatch. Avoid Fashion watches.
I like some of the watches from Rotary, especially the Breitling-esque aviator-style chronographs. They also do some nice looking alternatives inspired by the looks of the GMT and Seamaster. I've always had a soft spot for the Omega Seamaster though, ever since Pierce Brosnan wore one on Goldeneye. Someday!
A watch hardly mentioned is a watch worn by at least Two American Presidents: Revue Thommen. I don't know why but for +-500$ you get a Swiss made automatic, beautiful finish and durability. I have had mine for 20 years and never had it serviced. Keeps great time, Looks great on my wrist, as well as my Rolex Date Just, AirKing or Omegas, I have 6 models, take your pick. I use my two Atomic clocks to set everything and hardly ever have to reset the Revue Thommen, but the Rolex's are a pain. They need authorized service once every two/three yrs.
I have to say, that Oris is simply gorgeous ! I own a Rolex DSSD and a Panerai 422 and Id love to get my hands on that Oris. Gorgeous dark blue dial (slightly domed nonless!), domed sapphire crystal and vintage case lines - it pulls on my heartstrings. Watch snobs be damned!!!
Those three alternatives are watch brands I am actually I the process of collecting as I think they better suit me than something like a Rolex. I just won’t feel comfortable with a Rolex. I’d feel pretentious. I know very well I wouldn’t wanna drop 400-500 for maintenance every few years on a Rolex. One day when I’m at the peak of my career I’d love to get a bonus and buy a Patek though 😁
If your one of the people that see just getting a cheap but good quartz watch, get a Armitron, but if you truly want a watch that is as fantastic as machinery can be; these are the watches for you. Yes, you will pay a little more for these beautiful watches, including Seiko automatic. See these watches for what they are, incredible pieces of machinery.
I have several Casios. No G-Shocks though. Yet. I've been threatening for years to get one, but so far I just really haven't been able to find the right one, mainly because of their bulk. Maybe someday I'll find it.
@@phillippugh2161 Thank you. I prefer my digitals to be rectangular anyway and as far as size goes, that's a lot more in line with what I'd be willing to wear (45-50 mm) so I'll definitely look into that one a little further. Thanks again.
I don’t understand - why is the Longines Heritage Avigation L2.816.4.53.2 shown here with a visible back? I looked online, because I wanted to buy it, and it wasn’t a clear back, unfortunately.
Iove to hear, see and learn from you - didn't understand enough the chosen alternative though they are each unique and amazing. .. and one remark. .. your magnification pictures are amazing but. ...dust? ??? Come on ...😃
You should really look into Longines then. They are superior to Oris in built and quality. The watch being compared to Patek is testament to its heritage
The definition of affordable is relative of course but I would dearly like an annual calendar - perpetual is out of my league - and the most 'affordable' models appear to be based on the ETA calibre 7751 movement or variations thereof. Any views on this movement or alternative annual calendars?
Watchfinder what do you think about the Black dial Tissot V8 Quartz Chronograph as a replacement for the moonwatch Omega Speedmaster. And even maybe the Blue dial versión as a replacement for the Rolex Daytona
