I actually have been using both the light and the heater in my 125g for about a year and have no complaints whatsoever. For the price I can’t imagine a better product
Great job! I was here in search of a honest review of that light! I love the 24/7 timer because I have been known to leave the lights on too long/too often and get algae problems! This will take the guessing out and also give the fish something special/natural!
Purchased hygger heaters for my 150 gal., 125. Gal., 120 gal., and 75 gal., aquariums two years ago. All have worked flawlessly thus far. Just bought 4 of their LED plant lights based on good experience with their heaters. Hope lights are as good as heaters.
The light and heater look impressive! Obviously a bit hard in initial testing but would love to see a long term update on how they hold up over time. Great content as always Ben O 👍
Like these types of videos. I would love to see some follow-up videos in the future. I know since you keep mostly African Cichlids and don't do live plants, How tall your quarantine tank is. Just wondering if the lights where bright enough for medium or higher live plants. Thanks Ben!
Hey Ben...been reading reviews on the Hygger light and read a couple comments where you said you use an external timer rather than the built in timers. I like that idea so I can make it more customizable to how I like to run my lights. When using an external timer does the Hygger remember your preference settings, or does it go back to 100% lighting once the timer powers it back on. If so, does the 100% present a problem for you as in being too bright?
I just purchased 4 of the Hygger 100W heaters for my tanks. I love the look of them, and how easy they are to hide, although they are showy enough to leave visible, and small enough to make more space in the aquariums. You set them and forget them, but if you need to adjust a temp, it is so simple, no getting your hands wet, just click the button to the temp you want and leave it.
I'm using the Hygger 24/7 full spectrum RGB light and I'm really happy with it. Thanks for the water changer review, I've been on the fence about buying it for a while and you helped me make a decision.
I recently purchased the Hygger water changer. They must have taken your advice because it is much better to use than my Aqueon. The hose is very nice and pliable. The valve on the part that attaches to sink is much easier to turn than Aqueon. I took a reviewers advice and purchased a metal adapter to attach to faucet. I also purchased the light and love it.
@@BenOchart I recently purchased the water change set, just a few days BEFORE seeing your review. The product is still pretty flimsy. I like that the hose is very pliable. Just before I purchased mine I used my neighbour's water change set and that was much more robust! The faucet attachment still does NOT fit properly. I used a huge roll of plumbers tape to get it to fit during water changes. I kind of regret going cheap now, I should have just manned up and asked my neighbour where he got his. Let's see how long it lasts.
Ben, I have the Hygger Model: HG-921 heater. It is the best heater I've ever used and I've used a lot! If you ever get the chance to get one or try one of these, I strongly recommend it. They are extremely safe because they heat the tank differently from your standard glass tube heaters. You don't even have to shut them off when doing water changes because the second they get exposed to air, they immediately shut off.
@@Hygger-Aquarium Your welcome... could you give us a link to your aquarium power vac products? I believe I have your product but can't remember the model, etc?
I have hygger lights, the water change system and am about to try the heaters in a new tank as well. While the water change system is a little lightweight their customer service is excellent. I dropped the valve on my tile floor and broke it, they sent me a new one in 3 days for free.
Another great video uncle Ben but I got one important question for you about that heater would you still connected to an ink bird considering it already has that module. I want to buy a couple heaters for my 3 55 gallon tanks.
It wouldn’t be a bad idea since the control module is not really a traditional controller. It’s just the temp control and thermostat that would normally be inside the heater. So, yes, something that cuts off power at a certain temp would be wise, especially with 500watts that could potentially boil the fish quickly.
You should add the keyword "HG-978" to your video description, I was looking for reviews on this Hygger light for a long time and didn't find yours very quickly.
I have the heaters in a 55 gallon tank(300 watt) and a 500 watt in a 125 gallon tank. They work very well for me and mantain the tanks where I have them set. I'll need to check out the light if they come in a 72".
I'd be happy to see Hygger improve the water changing system by modifying the current model as well as rising the price of it by a little. It would compromise the customer as well as the company either way with a great product. I'm sure it could be a great alternative to pythons.
I have a hyyger led light on my 10 gallon hospital tank and a double sponge filter and big air pump from then also on my 65 gallon tank. Very pleased with the quality and performance of their products. Particularly pleased with the fact that the air pump is totally silent with no vibration at all..it is on a small shelf right above where I sleep and nearly silent. Gonna try that light you are reviewing and the heater also in my next aquarium purchasing spree!!
I use it on a timer and go with the blue light before turning off so configuring it has not been of concern to me. But being able to would certainly be better. I'm loving the slim profile. Much less bulky that then Beamswork LEDs I'm using currently. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@BenOchart I enjoy your videos. I’ve had many tanks, but doing my first cichlids currently. Using Fluval lights on that tank and love the configurable of the app. Kind of light having AI Prime Lites (bad pun). 🍻
I have been using the heater for nearly 10 months without a problem. Love it. A few weeks ago I picked up the water changer and what a PITA! I can't get it to connect to any faucet. Any suggestions on adaptors?
I had the same issue and gave up. Maybe the end piece off of a Aqueon or Python would work. If not, take it to a hardware store and they might have a workaround
@@BenOchart I am going to see what I can come up with. We just moved and the fish room is in chaos. I will be running some plumbing in late May and will see what I can engineer then. I do not know how they could fumble a standard fitting.
Ben that light looks slick! I have a few Hygger products. The make good stuff. I have a pump I use for water changes that works great. I also have the aquarium cleaning kit. It has a long handle I can easily reach the back of my 125g. It has different heads you can swap. Scraper, rake, brush, pad. Really helpful
@@BenOchartare we talking length-wise or stacking next to each other? I also heard that for carpeting plants, the wattage isn't strong enough to go that deep (something to do with the diffusion of the light toward the bottom). BTW thanks for taking the time to engage my questions :)
I got that water change hose system last year to compare to python. I liked the long big nozzle but the hose was so thin so it got returned and I got a second python
First time watching your channel. Wasn’t aware Hygger made a water changer Ming system. I can speak for the lights and heater. I have the heaters on most of my tanks and the lights on some. Very good quality indeed.
I remember swapping out long Eheims for the much shorter Cobalt heaters. The Eheims were sticking out of the water and I had anxiety about them cracking. One of these 500w hyggers would be plenty to heat water as it travels through a sump😀👍🏻
I have all 3 of these item, they all work great! I agree the water change does seem flimsy, but I have had it a year, no problems, & all 3 are a lot more reasonable in price.👍🏻
Hi Ben: I'm looking forward to your review of the heating unit. I envision installing one in a sump. Regards from the San Gabriel valley of California!
The heater has some good features but... the sensor should be integrated into the heat element so you do not have another thing in the tank. The control unit outside the tank with a simple up and down switch is very cool. The light also very cool for the features it has and being so thin.
Ben i got the same Hygger heater and love it. Very reliable. I'm def gonna check out that light for my 135 gallon Seapora tank. Great video. Thanks for the reviews.
I recently got back into the hobby. I’ve bought two hygger lights and the water change system also two 100 hygger heater. I can say the lights work well. get the upgraded versions with the programmable timer. The water change system is ok pythons is much better. And the heaters are still working so it’s an ok cheap brand six months in
I've used a few of Hygger's products, and have been extremely satisfied with the quality. They have a great selection of products for people on a budget. Shame about the water changer, but I'm sure they'll improve on it in the next iteration.
i got the hygger gravrl cleaner can not stress to u enough how disappointed i was when trying to use it it almost feels like it is not supposed to do anything ever so much that i thought i was the problem.....
It's nice that they have the ability to reach out to you for product promotion, but don't seem to be able to return messages or answer the phone when there is a customer service issue. I'm not bitter! LOL I purchased their inline heater and it failed after a couple months. I tried and tried to get ahold of customer service for a replacement. Crickets. I'm using their canister filter with no complaints, but I won't be purchasing any hygger products in the future. Damn, I like the looks of that light too. Will be curious to see how those products hold up for you.
@@BenOchart checked out large fish breeding farm near me Lakeland Florida on face book and the web. Paradise aquatics specializes in African cichlids a lot of big ponds breed a lot of Africans I thought of you Florida is closer than Arizona. I’m not buying until I come back in October. Heading up near Siacuse New York. May 10 for summer snow bird. Any just some general information Regards Freddie😎👍
I had an Eheim version of the gravel vac that was self contained. No hose, and an external motor that was mounted to the top. The debris would get trapped in a built in micron mesh canister. The idea was the water would go back inside the tank, and the debris would stay in the canister. It was junk. The motor almost never started without smacking it. Right out of the box. It also felt cheap like yours did. The idea was good, because when the motor turned on it did actually trap a lot of detritus, but it was useless because it almost never worked. $40.00 lesson learned. Stick with the tried and true hose and a bucket, or python if you have a sink that it can hook up to.
I know that power gravel vac and yes, it was mostly useless. There are others available now that cost about the same but are much more powerful. I used to use it but now I just do my cleaning with the python when I'm doing water changes.
I almost bought that Eheim unit but came across too many comments like yours and decided to pass. A submersible pump that cycles water through a siphon tube and mesh sock might be a better approach for those occasionally needed touch-ups. Since I vacuum and do a WC every week, I usually don't need. But white sand, that shows every spec, is making me consider...
Some Malawi fish keepers on YT recommended the Eheim unit. Got one. It was made in China and complete trash. Used their canister filter in 70s and heaters now. Both are excellent and made in Germany.
@@BenOchart Yes, for sand substrate you should have a reliable power vac. I went through this nightmare in the past before moving to gravel substrate. I did find a very good powerful vac that worked very well. It had like 350gph of power and did a great job of lifting debris and waste off the top of sand. I even think it may have been a Hygger made vac.
Those silicone stringy things are useless. They get so dirty and hard to clean up. I had one in with my Tetras and they pooped so much and no matter how much maintenance I did in that tank, those silicone things were stained and couldn't get them nice.
Your video is great, the explanation is also very careful, we also have great aquarium products, want to invite you to review, look forward to your reply.
