Without alcohol burner, it's $12.99 amzn.to/2CVvvGX
Emberlit Stove amzn.to/2meFJbc
QuickStove amzn.to/2FmAxLc
Ohuhu174 Stove amzn.to/2CZH3d5
I have a newfound fascination with wood burning stoves, so I picked up three different styles and put them to the test.

I’m an emberlit guy all the way! It’s not finicky. Light a fire, put pot on, cook, eat. Done. I have the stainless steel one for carcamping and the titanium for backpacking. I’ve tried quite a few of them and i like the emberlit. It’s also American made and the founder of the company is really cool! The customer service is top notch. Great comparison vid👍🏼

Lixada hands down because of price, packability, weight and ease of use. Not only can it run off twigs but it can also run off an alcohol stove or esbit fuel tabs. I use this stove all the time, doesn’t cause hotspots unless using thin gauge material like titanium.

Hello Taylor. There is a simple solution for the 'pot is too small for the top' problem. All you need is to get your hands on stainless steel thick mesh. Cut a piece to be about 3/8th inch wider than the top of the stove when assembled, and place the mesh atop the stove after assembly. If you desire compactness, take the mesh and cut it into 4 equal squares and roll one edge for each piece. Now, you can add a pair of 'pins' to allow you to push a pin linking two mesh sections. Two of these should span the top of the stove easily, but you should allow for the rolled edge where the pin will insert, ,and thus your 'squares' will start out as rectangles before you roll the extra mesh along one edge to make the pin connection slot. Yes, make sure your pins are good steel as well, since they will be spanning the center of the stove. Another way that is a bit more finicky is to do a similar thing, but with triangular pieces of mesh that are rolled along two edges. The resulting pinned together mesh will have an 'X' of pins through the center, and the pin ends will rest on the upraised edges of the stove. OR, you can go with the simplest solution... use a 'bag' from a larger folding stove to carry your chosen stove, and a large enough piece of the mesh that will easily overhang all edges of the stove after assembly. Just a few thoughts, speaking, Frank-ly

Thanks for putting in the work! BTW, the Ohuhu stove fits perfectly inside an MSR 775ml stowaway (wide) pot, so it takes up no extra space in your pack. Also, it's a TLUD (top-lit updraft) stove. Pack it full of twigs like a can full of upright pencils and top it off with a little tinder and a Vaseline cotton ball. Light it, come back in 5 minutes to a roaring flame. Boil your water in ten minutes and you still have 10-15 minutes of simmering left. No fire maintenance or feeding needed once lit. It's still heavy but once you dial in a setup like the above, it's low hassle. Also, I've used a computer fan grill to hold small pots on it. The grill easily fits inside the stove.

BEST STOVE REVIEW I'VE SEEN!! I have watched so many review video's and this one is so direct, simple, on subject, clearly spoken, fast ( not a bunch of side tracked bs ) Good quality video/audio and close up examples of how each goes together works and breaks down. Excellent job. Plus, I Love the fact that you edited the parts that wastes my time, like lighting the fires, collecting wood etc. You sold me on the small Lixada stove, it's the one I've been looking at. A+

I was about to say that and that lixada also sells that Ohuhu stove too the O huhu with a smaller pot could be top loaded too making it a contender but the flat pack of the foldable lixada looks like the best fit for ultra light day packs that I use where space and weight are king

its a simple thing to either buy, make some cross members, or get a computer fan grill to sit on top. if someone doesn't have problem solving skills, maybe someone shouldn't be out in the wild, lol ! i have the lixada, and its a great stove, especially for the price.

I have a couple versions of the lixada. I like them but since I got my firebox stove, I like it better. I have a gasification stove like your ohuhu but mine has a better top. It can fit a small pot and has a decent opening to feed the fire, which is why I got it off amazon or eBay. But it holds a long fire if you use pellets. I use it for home or car camping. My fav is my firebox nano for backpacking cuz it is a powerhouse.

@neilharris1021

On the round wood gasifier stove you can flip the pot supports to the centre and it then it balances a much smaller pot really well. I also find that filling it and then lighting it from the top is more efficient. I have also just got a Titanium version of the Emberlit from AliExpress and looking forward to trying that out.

@joespawldin7833
@joespawldin7833 6 лет назад
Yeah the gasifier is a stove that you just need common sense to use.its a damn good stove if used right.but its not idiot proof lol.i prefer wood gas stoves.as a back up anyways.nothing has beat my svea with the sigg tourest base and pot kit yet.but while the sigg has a wood burning configuration its more or less a hobo stove.wood gas stoves just seem to be a more efficient style.and if i wanted to my svea burner will drop in the ohuhu well and so would a trangia.and fuel tabs will work as well as the wax and wood chip pucks and buddy burners.the versitility is there.just have to know how to use it lol.

You missed the best one and I normally do not say something is the best but in this case it is. The Solo Stove Lite is the ideal wood burning bio mass stove. There are a lot of reasons it's better then the others but my favorite reason is this. It's also an alcohol stove in two different ways.... 1st way , you can use a little alcohol stove in it like the Trangia in place of burning wood. You can ( this and the Bush Buddy are the only two ( Backpacking ) wood burning stoves that can do this ) The stove by itself as a alcohol stove. The ash pan in the bottom of the stove can be filled with alcohol ( about 3/4 oz works really good ). It's a great way to heat some water in a hurry for a hot beverage. Or to reconstitute a dehydrated meal when you can not locate any wood or dry wood. By the way the reason I say the Solo Stove is the best and better then the Bush Buddy is because it costs the lease between the two of them.

No offense intended, but RU-vid is FULL of people trying to teach what they have not yet learned. 1: You packed the last piece (flame concentrator/pot support) into the bag upside down. No biggy, unless you put it in your rucksack and punched holes in things with the folding supports or just bent/smashed them. 2: The Ohuhu (paid $14.00 delivered for mine) is a Top Lit Up Draft wood gassifier. And you lit it exactly the wrong way, from the Bottom. No, you DO NOT have to be careful about blocking the bottom air vents, or fuss with feeding the fire IF YOU LOAD AND LIGHT THE STOVE CORRECTLY- As they are delivered, the bottom air vents have about TWENTY TIMES TOO MUCH SURFACE AREA!!! See my posts here and pictures of what that stove acts like when used correctly, especially with the addition of a tin can lid with much smaller holes placed in the bottom of the fuel chamber to greatly reduce the primary (through the bottom vents) air flow. See here: classiccampstoves.com/threads/chinese-wood-gassifier-stove.37401/page-8 3: Try this: Fill the stove to just below the top ring of vents with small sticks, twigs, pine cones or whatever. Then toss in a handful or two of the compressed sawdust wood pellets used for pellet stoves, or even the compressed sawdust pellets used for animal bedding. Just enough so when you shake and tap the stove, they settle down into the airspace between the twig/stick fuel. Then, light a bit of the fuel in the top center, I use a tiny bit of a wax/fiber fire starter cube, or about 1/4 of a tiny birthday cake candle. Then watch the stove burn for about 30 to 40 minutes with no fussing around or refueling, and darn near NO smoke, leaving very little soot on your pan too. Alcohol takes little space & weight, cheap and clean, cooks fast & controllable. No black soot on the pot or in your lungs, or smoke in your shirt and you don't risk igniting the forest.

Dollar stores carry Cheapo wire grills for a dollar. You can cut the corner off of one of them to fit those tripod supports that face up. I would leave enough on for a handle to lift up if you need to pick it up to add more wood while it's hot. It would work on all three of the stoves and any size cup would fit on that Grill it would raise it up less than 1/16 of an inch. So it should do you a better job
@TheGhungFu

You can get a 120 mm computer fan grill for less than a dollar which sits nicely on this style of wood gas stove, and also fits in the assembly when the stove is packed down. $7.99 for a 10-pack on Ebay.

Modern Outdoor Dweller hi there thanks for your video comparison there are 2 tips id give to you regards the uses of ohohu type stove being unable to easily support stuff ontop of it i have cut a curcular fine wire gauze same type as used in construction or heat ducting its impervious to flame heat etc it sits neatly supported by all 3 pot supports any sized cup or pan pot will be supported by the rigidity of the wire gauze connecting all 3 points of the pot stand it acts as a platform so span the pot stands with gauze ok the other tip is lexada use 2 tent pegs placed across through the holes on sides designed precisely for it these stoves are meant to be used in combo with 2 steel or alloy pegs to act as a cup stand ok? best wishes dave

The folding lixada was rhe first wood stove I had and frankly, the worst. You can see the problem a bit in your video, but it gets much worse with bigger pots. The pot puts the fire down and after a minute or so, you have only smoke. I threw it away. The gasifier like the one you have works much better. I dont care about feesing, bevause it easily burns clean for 15-20 minutes without refilling. And consumes like 1/3 of the wood.

You are not using the Ohuhu stove properly. You have to use the upside down method for the wood loading for long lasting burn. You would put the large piece of wood on the bottom, then add small sticks on the top, this way the flame will gas up real fast but the large pieces hasn't burn yet, and it will continue to burn for 15 minutes straight easily with just one load. Also for smaller pot, put the sides in. When you flip it open it is more for bigger pots.

6 yrs late but you can cut and add some coat hanger stabelizer hooks to the top of the lixada. this also helps against the expansion from the fire and your pot falling into the fire. Also with the ohoho, I would use a grill or grate cut to size and then you can use any size pot or cup.

THE best and lightest wood burning stove is the TRAIL DESIGNS TRI-TI or the smaller SIDEWINDER. Both use an INFERNO inverted cone insert to create a true gassifier stove that burns the gasses given off in initial combustion that would otherwise be wasted. Plus this stove rolls up into a small Tyvek sleeve. As well I c=comes with an alcohol burner and ESBIT fuel tablet burner. I use ESBIT for 3 season camping and wood for melting snow.

Needs to design a dakota titainum rocket fire pit. Thick titanium foil you can roll up. With metal wire rings that can hold the parts together. A large piece of titanium foil with two hole close to the bottom one hole for the air intake duct and the other has a fuel hopper to feed fuel into the burn chamber with a lid you can top the rolled titanium to keep the air intake sucking in air from the intake duct on one side of the titainum thick foil with another hole close to the top where heated air is drafted and sent up and out of an exuast flute made out of rolled titanium foil held together with wire rings. Dig a trench then place air intake duct you place outside your shelter that draws in air from outside your shelter that feeds the fire pit. A titainum dish that slips over the top of the titainum thick foil to form a level and steady cook surface that will glow red hot from the rock stove type drafting within the dakota fire pit. Design the main cylinder to stick up out of the ground at least a foot so rocks could be placed around it to absorb heat because of how titanium radiates heat really well but does not hold onto the heat like other metals. A light weight stove that sucks in air from outside of a shelter heats the air inside the shelter and vents spent air and fumes up and out of the shelter. A titainum dome could be designed to slip over the top that drafted super heated air through it that csused the dome to glow like a heating element on a space heater with rocks stacked atound it for a really cool effect has you provide heat to a shelter. Some crazy ideas for you. 😊

I have two gasification stoves, one is a stainless steel one similar to this one and the other is a smaller boundless voyage titanium one, the larger SS one I've got close to an hour of useful heat on a single fill no adding fuel after lit and the smaller Ti one between 30-40 min. With the gasification if filled right and lit from the top you get the best burn with little difficulty, I do prefer my smaller Ti one. I have various hinged (lixada on the way) or slotted put together stoves, for both types I love how little space they take up and with the hinged how easy they flop open to assemble. Great video,

The Lixada has a top you can add for smaller vessels like the Stanley cook set. It's nine bucks, or you can easily make one.

And yet one more video review of a wood gasifier stove from someone who doesn't know how to load or light it. Granted, this particular one has a bad pot stand. Choose one with better supports that will hold large or small pots.

If I dont care about that little extra weight which one is best ? .. steel vs titanium which one is strongest and durable and come prolong life ??

I have a billy pot 14 cent so the huhu works for me and I like that it isn’t flat sheets of metal like the foldable one and all I use it for is boiling water and I don’t really care if I have to take it off for a couple seconds to feed the fire

Shame the Quickstove isn't in the UK, looks like it might have been usable as a portable BBQ.

Great video. Worth the sub! I like that you used the word "finagle". I actually used it in a video I did yesterday.

I carry a little piece of hardware cloth for backup. Stack small, flat stones, leaving a hole in the base to feed fuel. Works well, little to carry, fits all pots & pans. Thanks for your vid.

Thanks for an excellent video! Fine demonstration/comparison of the different stoves, but... Have you tried either of the two Firebox stoves? I like them so much that I have three of them currently (1 Gen2, and 2 Nano's...all S/S vice titanium). All have various wood, alcohol and charcoal/pellet configurations and built like tanks, plus store down into an easy to carry flat w/an easy/quick assembly. Noooo, I'm not paid/sponsored by Firebox, I just love them! Try'em, you'll also love them also!!! Again, Thanks for the video and hope to see you make a comparison w/the Firebox units, either or both S/S or titanium versions!

I haven't. I was looking at them but decided to go with Emberlit (even if it was a gift, I had it on my wishlist lol) instead.

I like the Ohuhu.. can use smaller cups if you do not fold out the supports... and the thing I like best is you can cook on top of a picnic table. The fire is up off the surface. With Alcohol, it is a backup inside the camper. I just have little twigs to feed in the sides and do not have to remove the pan. In any case.. I like it. Thanks for thew review.

The Ohuhu/ Lixada Wood Gas stove can be adapted to hold a smaller pot simply by turning the pot stands inwards. There is no problem fuelling as it will burn for a long time on a 300 gram load of Wood Pellet/Cat Litter.
