hi i am 11 when ever i pitch my coach dose not let me throw certain pitches he tels me to just throw the ball nor dose he let me stand in the stance i want to he makes me just throw the ball the way he wants me to
If not mistaken these are or were Greg Maddox’s weapons which he in my opinion allowed him to become the worlds greatest pitcher ! Because it gave him control which was accurate and longevity which is a rarity in the position of pitchers . And shows what hard work and practice can accomplish with anything you want to do in life ! A real baseball hero and legend . Watched him most of my youth and still amazed at his humble attitude which carried any team he was on
Nice to hear. Im 25 now and have long retired from little league ball lmao. I used a 2 seam and sinker in my arsonal because as I experimented with different pitches they always seemed the most natural to me. Nice to know all these years I wasn't throwing anything that hurt my arm.
+Ty Mejia Nothing really. I personally like the word command the best because it implies the mindset that you are making the ball go where you want. But I use them interchangeably tbh
Pitching control and accuracy are pretty much the same and command is just knowing and getting the ball to where you choose. So just that 1 difference. Other than that they are pretty much the same.
Control is throwing it for a strike, accuracy is throwing it in the same spot, command is being able to do both as in up and away when a person wants or low and in
I throw a 12-6 curve which is basically like throwing a football and for the first 2-3 months my pitching instructor made me throw an empty pet milk can to get the topspin on it
Hey coach 2nd baseman here, I really want to play shortstop and my location is just right but sometimes I have difficulty getting the throw in time help?
Just subscribed. I graduated HS last year and looking to gain more knowledge on the game because I've started coaching. This channel has definitely helped with breaking down pitching strategies. Anyway, I throw a 2 seam, slider, changeup.
Thank you for sharing the tip on pronating your arm as you throw and release. As a youth I permanently damaged my arm trying to throw curve balls in little league. When I throw now as an adult if I pronate when I throw my arm actually feels good.
Sinker and change up are screwball variations? I don’t think I have ever heard them described as such myself but they appear to be and when I throw them they also feel like they are. The movement is also very similar from what I can gather.
Im 13 and hitting mid 70’s with my fastball. My primary pitches are a 4 seam fastball, slider, and sinker. I’ll occasionally throw a knuckle ball to throw off the hitter.
and i play pitcher my pitchers are 12-6 curveball slider changeup 4 seam fastball and sinker but im not in the youth league so it will not hurt me as much as them just so u dont get worried thanx for da vid
I'm 16 and through a good accurate fastball ( 4 seam ) and over the summer learned a good curve ball, I'm the starting catcher on my team but next year I want to pitch more thx for the help in the vids
I got 4 seam fastball 2 seam fastball(Mine sucks) Sinker(This sucks too) Cutter Circle change (sometimes I change it to a regular change up) Slider (I have a lucky grip that doesn’t hurt my arm bye bring the ball inwards) 12-6 curveball (sometimes I throw a regular curveball certain games depends on the other teams batter) All my pitches are well worked out and I got a lot of aim except for my 2 seam fastball rarely used
I was a division 1 pitcher ages ago for UAB. Which is The University of Alabama at Birmingham. On the circle change grip. I have average sized hands. So I gripped my change like a circle change. I just made a C with my index and the thumb and they were just resting on the inside of the ball. I don’t squeeze the index or the thumb at all. With that pitch, for me I basically gripped the ball with just enough pressure so not to drop the ball. The middle , ring and pinkie is where the juice is. As I released it I wanted it to come off the ring and pinkie . It moves like a sinker except the grip is what slows down the pitch. I threw it as hard as I did my fastball. Around 90%. It ran in and down to a right hander. It was around 6 to 8 mph slower than my 4 seem that I only threw when The count was 0-2 or 1-2 and I was trying to miss high and screaming. If they didn’t bite, normally I would throw a sinker from a little lower arm slot so I got a ton of run in and down very late. That and a very slow spiked curve were probably my best pitches. I just didn’t have quite enough consistent velo on my fastball to get drafted.
I'm thirteen and I'll be a freshman this coming year. Do you have any tips for pitching as a JV baseball player? My best pitches are 1. 4 seam fastball 2. 2 seam fastball/sinker 3. Learning to throw a curveball
Hey! If you want a good middle school curveball that's NOT as taxing on your arm, throw a knuckle curve. It sounds stupid but it actually gets more spin with almost a fastball type release rather than a normal curveball
Blue Dash instead of twisting your wrist you keep your hand still instead of twisting. You still need to have good force and grip, but it almost has better movement but with less stress on your arm
fastballs are harder on your arm than curveballs if you are throwing them right, I have been throwing curveballs since I was 10 and my arm is fine because i am throwing them correct. Plus, nowadays if you don't have a breaking ball U GET ROCKED
Hi coach! If you wouldn't mind, can you please make a video on how to adapt from little to big diamond? If it's not too much trouble, this would be great! Thank you!!! By the way, great video and thanks for making videos!
Try investing in learning a knuckleball. It has increased my efficiency as a pitcher and really has helped me in the travle circuit. FYI I'm 11 years old. If you put work into it you might become a better pitcher
Im 11 years old. 1. Curveball 2. 4 seam fastball 3. 2 seam fastball (still working on it) Pitch Variety: Approvimately 65% Four Seam Fastball. Approximately 30% Curveball Approximately 5% Two Seam Fastball (Just recently started throwing it in games 6 months ago.
My son is 7. He plays on a pitching machine right now but loves pitching in the backyard. What age should he start trying to throw change ups and sinkers?
my 7 year old kid gets upset when kids hit him. i keep telling him he gets hit because he is throwing strikes right down the middle all the time and its not a bad thing. i try to reinforce that he needs to learn batters in his rec league. most kids will swing on stuff in the dirt and away pitches. hes getting the idea that placement on batters is a learned skill and regardless where a kid sets up in the box is not his concern. speed with control is good, speed without it is a walk. when he gets movement on his pitches these kids are in trouble. great video.
I'm a right handed sophomore pitcher that mainly throw fastballs because I get pain in the lower part of my bicep that would last days. How can I avoid getting this pain? So that I'm able to have the ability to throw more useful pitches.
i have an 11 yr old pitcher with smaller hands but throws fairly fast, wanting him to start working on a sinker. any recommendations for kids with smaller hands
My fingers aren’t big enough to throw a circle change up so I throw a 3 finger change and it works just as well on batters! Yesterday I guy broke his bat on my change up because he was swinging for the fast ball
Hi, I am 52 and don't play any longer. Well maybe a little softball. My son is just 7 and at some point later in life we will work on these. Info is great. I am new to your page so I don't know if you answered these questions before. That rotation that you are teaching for the sinker, isn't that the same rotation for the screwball? And how do you feel about teaching kids a knuckle bal?l
John, thank you for this video. I coach at the 10U level, and find it disturbing how some coaches at this age are teaching kids to throw sliders and curves. I had success this season teaching our pitchers to throw these three pitches along with your cutter from another video with great success. I do see that you teach the change with the pinky down alongside which some of the boys struggle with, so I let them keep their pinky on top next to the ring finger. Does the placement of the pinky help control the pitch better?
Great point about the pinky David. Some of these kids will have to adjust the grip depending on the size of their hand so the pinky being up is not a big deal. In general, the grip isn't even the most important factor. The biggest thing I want them to get is the wrist angle at release point and the timing of the pronation.
You may already have a video like this but my son is going on nine it has fairly good mechanics for just starting out Bud could benefit from a video that shows each step of pitching mechanics. Especially those parts the mechanics to head to velocity. Thanks. Brad. Sons name is Aubrey.
Hey Brad, perfect timing! A few days ago I recorded 12 videos taking you through the whole pitching delivery step by step. I plan to upload those videos next saturday (just over a week from now). If you can't wait til then, I have the same process broken down but in more detail in my pitching program that is on sale right now. baseballtrainingprograms.com/pitching-365-discount/
When I test some different grips. Using your sinker grip with some space between my palm and the ball I have more deep movement than lateral movement, but I grip it on the seams it goes with a lot more side movement. That could be worth to use in a game??
My kid is almost 11 and he threw the adjusted velocity rate of 104.5 mph if he was a grown adult. Any tips to help him keep that going, like certain stretches, exercises etc...
