I'm 57 years old and it seems like I've watched Mr. Martin on TV all my life. My biological father is 90 years old and has never really been a dad as he ran out on our family when I was just 6 years old. I watch Mr. Martin and wonder what it would've been like to have him as a dad. Could you imagine the camping trips and fishing while growing up with Mr. Martin as a dad? Such a likable presence. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I've always been a fan.
I'm an old guy too. First met Roland at a fishing tackle show when I was a sporting goods buyer for a discount store chain in the late 70's. He knew all the new tricks and love to teach. Still enjoy his teaching.
Finally one guy who knows about the quality of the uni-knot! Tying this knot to everything! Only exception: FG for braid to fluo-leader and then uni again from fluo to steel-leader.
I'm 64 and have been fishing almost 60 years and appreciate all of your fishing tips. Couldn't find your wealth of knowledge just anywhere. Glad you take the time to share.
He seems like one of the coolest guys on the planet. Somebody that I'd love to go fishing with, or just sit and listen to what he has to teach. I bet he's got some great stories to tell.
Exactly lol then after the three stooges and Kung fu theater at noon..Sundays were the best..I remember getting my first B.A.S.S patch in the mail from watching these shows as a very young child. Fell in love with bass fishing and have been active ever since. Bill Dance and Roland Martin were my guys.
Roland we were at the Rio Negro lodge in brazil. you are very nice person. And treated everyone with respect. How’s the wife and manager? The owners father called me the piranha king. Because I caught over 100. You showed me how to make monkey paw knot. And a couple other things. If I had your number I’d like talking with you,to see if you have any knowledge of the people there.
Mr.martin..ive been watching you for a long time.i use to get my son to watch you on .t.v way back in the 1990s.. he just loved it and he got happy fishing because of your show.....thank you sir....my son has sense passed away but when I go fishing I fish for him..he loved fishing mostly because you taught him....you done the job that I couldn't...thank you Mr Martin.
I'm an old guy too Roland and have watched you for years. You are an old school fisherman, you remind me of my Father, he would tell me," I am going to show you how to do this" If you find a better faster way, please show me. " Until you do that do it the way I just showed you". I tried many times to do it faster or better. Every time I would end up doing it the way he had shown me. The end of this video reminded me of that lesson I had learned years ago. Thank you, Roland, maybe the younger guys will listen and learn from your knowledge. OG
Im 52 and watched you as a kid fish on t.v. I follow your son Scott and your granddaughter Hilary and now I just subscribed to your channel Mr.Martin! Definitely a wealth of knowledge coming from you and your family! Hoping to pass down what I learn from your family to mine when it comes to fishing! Looking forward to all your videos!
When a man masters his profession, he recognizes that he will never quit learning and utilizing his experiences in new problem solving and if he can control his ego, he can relish in sharing his knowledge. Thanks Roland The old professor
I would love to have a Beer with the legend himself... Nobody on this Universe could explain, share or teach the way with patience and determination for you to learn like Roland Martin... I grew up watching him on TV everytime he came on.... Cheers to Roland Martin...
You represent some of the best years of my life. Sunday late mornings in the 80s. I'm super stoked I found your RU-vid channel. Lots of sore lips cuz of you 😉, Thank you Sir.
Thanks Roland grew up watching you. Getting back into fishing after a long time break and use braided line. I was tying the old school knot we all grew up on and was losing lots if fish due to knot failure. I thought it was just me and I had to work on my knot tying skills. Know I know better.
This gentleman came to an outdoor show in Worcester, Mass some years back. USA Marine was the place. He gave an awesome seminar but you could tell something was off. I was told by a local pro that Mr. Martin had a hernia but didn't want to disappoint his fans. He went back to Florida and had it fixed. God Bless you and yours, Sir !
Roland, from one older man to another, I have followed you since the 1970's and you are the man Brother. I watch all your videos and you are a GREAT teacher. Be safe my brother and God Bless You!!!
I remember watching you, and Orlando Wilson with my dad growing up in the 80's. I still can pretty much recite the theme songs to both of those shows. My father was an avid fisherman, and pretty much gave me the bug and I am passing it along to my 9 year old son. Seeing these videos is almost like seeing an old friend again that you haven't seen in a long time. I really enjoy your insight, expertise, and your overall passion for fishing. I have to say we need more good ol' boys like you these days. Take care and I will see you around ol' friend. :)
Roland, I'm an old guy too! (62), just started seriously fishing in the last couple of years in semi-retirement. Your videos have been so awesome in getting me up to speed, thanks! If you want to learn how to ski, come up here to NE, I'll teach you ;)
Thanks, Roland! I'm 56 and I've been watching and learning from you since I was a kid. NO ONE has taught me more about fishing than you. I really appreciate how much value you give to those who watch you.
Put me down as well. I'll be 50 and always remember watching Roland, Orlando Wilson, Bill Dance, the Linders, Babe Winkleman, and can't forget about Hank Parker. Learned a ton of tips and tricks I tell you.
Ha, same deal as Pete except he's 2 years smarter than me... Been enjoying you and now the rest of your family for a long time. I live down in SWFL, soon as things open up a little I'll be up at the Marina in Clewiston and grab a guide and catch some fish... thanks for years and years of entertainment and information. Love you guys.
My life goal is to shake Mr. Roland Martins hand. My legend, mentor of his fishing career and amazing achievement's! He's really a genuine and all around best!! #1. Thank you, Roland!
This guy has forgotten more about fishing than I'll ever know. Thank you Roland! I remember watching his TV show back in the 70s. A National Treasure. Yo Roland...Son...Dude! We love you bro! Keep doing what ya doing.
Roland knows his fishing stuff. Comes across as knowledgeable & imparts his knowledge in an easy listening style without any hype. When he talks old school, old school has not gone out of fashion. It works for me. Love ya Roland.
Been around decades. He loves to teach and he still has the enthusiasm of a lil kid with a big fish on a cane pole. We all are better for what he conveys to the brother outdoorsman community. All the best.Cheers!
@a10warthog61 The video has less then 40,000 views and even less then that would care to read comments so Dale Skelton's comment is hardly put out there to millions of people. PS: I dont think anyone cares if you dont care either.
Took up serious pike fishing and studied all the celeb anglers setting all their gear up, Knots and baiting, but I always struggled with braid and the clinch knot, after 100s of fishing videos this guy is the only one who has ever mentioned you can't use braid for a clinch knot, thanks buddy.
I've watched you on TV for years when I was a youngster. I never knew you where a Teacher and served in the Army. Thank you for your service and much respect from one Vet to another.
Twenty years ago I used to glue myself to the tv on a Saturday morning for the big three: Roland Martin, the 'Great American fisherman', Orlando Wilson, and Bill Dance. Good to see Roland has embraced the new technology and is back to share his wisdom. I have to expand my repertoire past the palomar knot to the uni and loop!
Keep em comin Roland!! I grew up watching you, learned a lot back then and since I’ve gotten back into Bass fishing in the last couple years it’s great to see you are still at it!! Tight lines!!
I'm a 74 year old bass fisherman who learned something from you today ! Thanks for freely continuing to contribute your knowledge TO US, YOUR FANS ! Roland Martin TRULY IS " THE GREAT AMERICAN FISHERMAN".
Love ya, Roland. You're a legend and also a gentleman. I watch these young gun youtubers too but i fell in love with fishing watching Roland Martin on Espn as a kid. Cheers and best of luck.
You’ve been one of the most inspirational bass masters. I grew up watching you, Jimmy & Bill, used to love how frequent the big fish were back in the good ole day! Thank you!
Roland, you are a fishing GOD. Been watching you since I was 12 years old on the Saturday morning fishing show. Now at 44 years old, I'm still watching you, now on RU-vid!
Thank you Roland! I love your videos, and have been a fan since I was a kid, (I'm 43 now, lol) I learned how to tie the Palomar knot watching your TV show many years ago and it's been my go to knot ever since.
I like teaching people about what I love to do too. I have a lot of trouble learning. I feel have learned how teach because of it. Thanks for teaching me the Palomar knot. I used to use advanced clinch knot until today. Going to catch a monster tomorrow. You are a fantastic teacher. Thank you for being such a good teacher. You have inspired me.
I just wanted to say that I viewed this video several months ago. I have returned for a review and I find it very helpful. I had not used a loop knot in a while and forgot how to tie it. I thank you and you should know that your work has long-lasting value. I appreciate you and may God bless.
THank you. I'll be using braid for the first time this summer. This was a great demo. I used to watch you fish on TV when I was at my grandfather's place as a wee lad. I'm a fly fisherman by heart so these knots will be perfect to add to that application as well.
This made my day! Thank you Roland for a great video! By they way, my late father fished with you in a bass tournament on Lake Gaston, NC where names were drawn and competitors were paired in boats. My Dad was quite the joker, and he looked a bit like Conway Twitty, so you may remember him - Larry Wagoner. I'm going to use your knot recommendations with my two sons on our upcoming fresh and saltwater fishing trips this summer - thank you SO MUCH for sharing your well-earned wisdom!
I have enjoyed watching Roland Martin catch fish for as long as I can remember. He could always take lesser fishermen to school. Glad to see that we can get some schooling still. I'm an old guy too.
Excellent tutelage Roland! I've known about these knots for years from watching your fishing shows from when I was a kid...but I always still enjoy a proper lesson from the master! Palomar is my goto knot for most of my fishing needs! I am glad you are still doing what you love to do!
I grew up watching you for years, and still do because you love what you do, you love teaching others your craft and have fun doing it. We know we’re getting the best info straight, with no BS. Thanks for doing these videos, 👍🎣🇺🇸
Roland Never knew you were an Army veteran. Navy guy here. Thanks, for sharing. I have been watching you on Bassmasters since we came back from Iran in 1980. Fished as a kid with my dad, but stopped in my teens through my enlistment. Bassmasters got me back to fishing, and I've been ever since. My favorite picture is my daughter headed into her dorm freshman year with a fishing pole in each hand. Thanks for all the years!
