Just finished ep1 What a GREAT start. I’m so intrigued. I actually bought and own the original book but never got around to reading it lol. Now I feel like I must
@@Lightthebeam1980 tons of dune books to get through. I can’t blame you. The dune hype is very real right now lol I might get into those myself after reading the newest thrawn trilogy from Star Wars.
@@YelløwKing666 Piece of advice from someone who has read them all: Only the first one is worth it. (Talking about Dune. The 3 body trilogy is all good. The second one being the worst and the 3rd one the best)
Exactly! I was hyped initially, then that last trailer didn't do anything for me. Came here for James analysis, and now I'm hooked, Watched Epi 1 and show has next level crazy stuff going on. And I just came from watching Silo on Apple TV and they also did a great job of wanting you to see what happens next!
The trilogy is actually called "Remenberance of Earth's past". 'The three-body problem" is the title of the first book in the series (followed by "The dark forest" and "Death's end").
That opening scene took a LOT of balls. A ton of effort has gone into memory-holing the cultural revolution. Boomers were chanting “Marx, Mao, Marcuse!” on college campuses in the United States. We’re not supposed to know that, and that they didn’t abandon the ideology.
The beginning of the book is pretty slow, but the story in the cultural revolution is what keeps you engaged. It was a must to include. I don't think it takes that much balls, tho. It's just history.
it's not nobel peace price... it's the nobel prize in physics. Peace is just one of the categories... peace, literature, economics, medicine, physics etc... so NOT NOBEL PEACE PRIZE.. IT'S NOBEL PHYSICS PRIZE
@@KAIZORIANEMPIRE lol im just playing, I'm just used to the term "Nobel peace prize" and misspoke - hopefully if other's notice they will see your comment 🤝
Having watched the Tencent version of Three Body Problem and the books trilogy, I came into the Netflix version with strong bias, but so far I really like the changes they made to various plot lines and characters, while keeping the main plot focus. It makes the show more approachable and do a better job to flesh out the characters.
As soon as I seen it had something to do with the particle accelerator all the conspiracy theories about how not to mess with those things came to kind and I knew this was gonna be good 💯😂
New sub here hopefully you go to each episode Is q great episode but people will definitely could get lost because all of the information going and back and forth. I’m watching episode 2 now
What I don't understand is, how is the timeline working? are we watching past , present or future? why chinese actors don't have mobile phones despite working on a dish antenna ?
From a reader of book one, they did a sensible job of splitting the main scientist’s role into several characters. Better for TV. More potential character possibilities. Do wish the sky blinking had been a little more defined as the buildup to it in the book was freaky, very personal and more character driven. Do understand why they made it simpler but missed a lot of the insanity factor.
TBH, I think they did it so the story could be relocated to occident. The couldn't relocate the cultural revolution to the west, so they kept that in China.
Personally I really enjoyed the 30 episodes made in 2021 and was a bit worried about the way this series was only 8 episodes but I found it enjoyable in it's own right.
I fear Netflix will see how this is a goose with golden eggs and think up new and far less interesting seasons instead of staying true to the books and end it when it's supposed to end. Instead, they should focus on making a three season series out of Children of Time. I really hope they'll honour the books ... who knows. This doesn't _have_ to go the way of GoT.
It still does! That paradox is actually a very important factor in the story, and the reason everything kicks off. The impossibility of predicting 3 large bodies in motion.
Not a "paradox". N-Body Systems are chaotic, but still deterministic. There are solutions, it's just that the number of unknown variables and possible outcomes are astronomically huge it's difficult to arrive at very accurate predictions. It depends on the mass and velocity of the bodies in question. One approximate solution is based on the "Restricted Body Problem". That's when one body is very light and can't really disrupt the other two bodies that much.
Thank you very much for your explanation and commentary. I struggle with Mom ADHD... I will now try to watch without distractions... I missed a bunch. 😊
I just have regular ADHD so I can just say that it's one of the few shows I can watch without rewinding too much to keep up. In fairness it's a wild ride 😅
I have read Books 1 & 2. Chinese parts as pretty much as per the book so far. The modern charachters are pretty much new or adaptions of various ones from the books. Interesting to see where this story goes as this is referenced as an 'adaption'. The main story in the books is called hard-science fiction, as a lot of sciennce and physics theory is used, but doesn't distract. 3 Body will be explained later in the series (no spoilers) but it can also be an allegory as James mentioned in his video.
I found the second one a little uninteresting, but the 3rd one has one of the best and most innovative concepts I've read in a scifi novel. And I read a lot of them. Go for it.
@jamesdewayne don't worry. We all do it. The peace prize is really famous. Most people know about the oeace prize. Few know that there are all sorts of prizes for other fields. Physics, chemistry, economics, and even for literature.
i watched the first episode without subtitles and i was a little bit lost but it captivated me so much i had to look for the in depth explanation . Great job with providing the answers and clearing everything up for me .
at the bar towards the beginning ? its either "take on me" by a-ha or "piano man" by Billy Joel, other than that it would be an original score from the show
Maybe someone in the comments can help me figure something out. When Ye was in prison and the other lady threw a bucket of water over her, what did she have to sign? Something against her father, but I'm not completely sure. And did she sign it in the end? Can someone explain this to me? Thanks!
Without spoiling any episodes, the 3 body problem has to do with astrophysics and how cosmic bodies interact with eachother through gravitational forces
This show is fantastic, I’m only 2 episodes in and already completely invested. Fantastic storytelling Have you watched the series “From” yet, another great dhow although very different from this one it’s also very interesting and has you asking a tonbof questions I’d say 3 Body Problem is better of course thus far but From is still well worth the watch
Interesting take from someone who has clearly never touched the books and doesn’t know anything in it (even down to the title). Will be great to your theories from that perspective.
Omg I’ve watch the first 3 episodes 5 times with distractions and was so lost .. watching now .. and listening to you im understanding and watching without distractions because they are at school 😂😂😂
Idk man. The OG Chinese adaptation seems a *lot* better. It is more science-heavy than the Netflix one. I have a problem with the fundamental idea at the core of the books. The "Dark Forest" thesis. I think it's wrong. To explain why is to go into spoilers so I'll refrain from further musings. I agree with you on Wong's Detective Clarence. He's the most engaging on-screen presence.
Bro come on the Noble Peace Prize is for peacemakers, world leaders and shit. The first murder victim was gonna win the next Noble Prize in Physics not Peace. They give Noble Prizes for pretty much every discipline
