OK, I think I've hit the tipping point with hearing about Guy Gavriel Kay and it is time for me to prioritize reading this book so I can give it a try myself
I loved A Marvellous Light so much! If you want a cozy romance with a great mental health perspective, I’d recommend the Charm Offensive by Alison Cochrun.
The video I watched immediately before the also talked about A Marvelous Light! That reader is into fantasy but was surprised by all the heavy romance so, this cover is really not helping anyone
Cute sweater! Book 1 and book 3 have pretty covers. But I wouldnt know, Book 3 was romance actually, I expected historical mystery fiction. I'm not missing the "boddice ripper" covers bec. I associate them with internalised sexism/racism and romanticised sexual assault. I remember walking blindfolded in some of these old romance novels and being scarred for life! My favorite romance covers are the cartoons ones (eg. Beach Read and The Love Hypothesis). I love the colour and the lightness of them. Also, I watched Illuminaughty's videos about Blizzard and EA's trials and they haunt me. I didnt realise (but should have known in hindsight, based on the angry entitled sexism of the fandom), how toxic of an environment it can be. I 100% supportive of indie game devs. and the work they do to bring better representation to the medium. Are you planning any reading for Black History Month this year? See you in your next video. 💜
