The funny thing is that the GO Panoreserve has a better date function, with both numerals on the same plane, while A.Langhe has them one above the other so they use a date divider to cover that up, while GO shows proudly how it's done!!!
I agree, I like the GO big date better. The difference with current models is that all new Lange 1 have date jumping at midnight, which I'm sure a GO doesn't yet have.
I have to disagree,i think the divider hides the shape of the circular wheels of the date wheels. And i think the angular look of the GO looks unsightly to my eyes. I'm glad Lange puts the divider there to hide this unsightly flaw.
@@TwentyOne_Five Hi, I am also interested in Panomatic Lunar watch. I would like to know more about date being changed late. Is that normal for all mechanical watches? Or is this only happening on this particular model? Thanks
The Glashütte Pano Reserve had me literally stopping breathing in admiration: an absolutely gorgeous piece with a degree of finishing that greatly surpasses anything I've seen so far at this price point. It's instantly become my grail.
Still putting in the daily $50 into my savings account for an A. Lange & Söhne. The day will come, and I shall be buried with it wrapped around my wrist.
@@AngelInTheDesert $50 x 365 (Number of Days in a Year) = $18,000. MRP of A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia Outsize Date = $30,000 est (Australia). 2 years, mate.
Glashutte Original might be the most underrated watch brand out there: 7:48. They make all parts and tooling (!) themselves. They are on the same level of Moser in terms of hand-finishing and hand-engraving and have more elaborate dials with the Senator Sixties but they are even more underrated. Thanks for bringing GO to our attention. But they deserve a own video and not just to be seen not as the little brother of Lange.
I recently got a Nomos Orion and my grandma bought a Saxonia Thin at the same time. Having worn both back to back, as much as I love my Nomos, I must say there is just something so special about Lange that you can’t put your finger on...
That’s amazing todroyas - was it the 37mm in white gold? Also, in your view do you think this could be a watch worn each day as a “one watch” or simply just to be used as a dressed watch ?
Reza R 37mm in rose gold and it’s absolutely gorgeous. tbh for me the nomos works quite well as an everyday watch since i tend to dress quite formally anyway. but it’s also my only “nice” watch so i’m sure if i had a great sports watch i’d wear that for my more casual outfits.
Just went today to my watchmaker to try on a Junghans. Ended up saving for a Nomos. A few hours later you upload your video stating that it's decently close to a A. Lange & Söhne. Big win!
malthus101 wouldnt call it a better choice. Just a different one. I chose the Max Bill Chronoscope over the Nomos, simply because I love Max Bill design, and the Chronoscopen look. Nomos gives you in-house, but Junghans gives you history
lester max mate, I am just grateful for the videos - I don’t need him to reply to me or like my comment lol. The moment a video is dropped, I watch it. I don’t do that for any other channel. I’m ashamed to say I once had a night in drinking scotch watching all these videos...the shame comes from the fact it was one of the best nights I had all year 😂
Glashutte Original has the longer continuous history. I won't say their entry level watches are the equal of ALS but some of their higher end ones certainly are. Much as I'd love any ALS chronograph, the chronograph on my grail list is the GO PanoRetroGraph. You need it to count up, it does, you need it to reverse and count down, it does that too, you need to be able to set a timer and have it chime when it hits zero, yep. That's assuming you could stop looking at the movement long enough to actually use it which is a danger with both ALS and GO.
If ever this presenter stops presenting these RU-vid videos, I’m off . His delivery matches his subject (watches) perfectly , IMO !!! He’s dry ,funny , educational , and best of all , well spoken . I understand every word he speaks , and his delivery is like that of every great thespian , beautifully weighted and timed to perfection . This guy is a gem . And he’s saved me thousands of pounds in watches I haven’t bought but enjoyed vicariously through his intimate descriptions of them . Rye chuss!!!!!
I am a proud owner of a Nomos Orion 301, it is absolutely beautiful. When I went to the store to get it I even got a 15% discount on the list price without even asking. Maybe it helped that I speak German :)
I had the Polaris and now I have the Seaq Panorama Date..tje different between them.is like day and Night..much more quality from Go and no boring design..it still outs me a smile everyday looking at it
I comment on social media super super rarely. But I need to break the rule. And I’ve to tell you - you are the best narrator ever! “…the need for a Monet to hide a stain on the wall…”! This is superb! And, even more, you are not only entertaining, but also very informative, often delivering good information unknown to me before. So, well, I’d say you are the full package, kind of…! Good job, sincerely! Chapeau!
First lottery win purchase right there in this video. I wince when I see people wearing £20K Daytonas, when they could have had Lange 1. There is no comparison.
Can my A. Lange & Söhne itch be scratched by another company? Definitely not. BUT as someone who doesn't have a huge disposable income, I'll definitely go for Glashutte Original Senator.
Beatutiful video. Thank you for bringing light on Glashutte Original! I feel like they are overlooked in the watch community a bit since they are just down the street from A. Lange. They make beautiful watches and I'd love to own a PanomaticLunar at some point
I’ve acquired a few new pieces within the last couple of months. The last two visits to my ad I found myself admiring the Glashutte pieces Immensely. I will likely purchase a Lange 1 eventually but I would be more than happy to also own one of the beautiful Glashutte offerings.
I must be truly perverse. I had decided to buy a Lange Große 1, but, when I came to do it, I saw the Panoreserve in blue -- and I preferred it. I preferred the harmony of the dial, but even more I preferred the coplanar big date implementation. Once you have seen the fact that the two numbers on the Lange date are not in the same plane, you cannot "unsee" it. The good news is that, with the "saving" I made I bought another GO, a Zenith, a Nomos, and a Moser. I now have seven watches from the small town of Glashütte, but still no Lange. One day soon -- but it will have to be a "no date" or a "hand date" model.
My neighbour spends 3000 on her cat and owns a lambo. One day she left the door open and the cat was flattened by a garbage truck. I think the nomos is a good watch...
I recommend anyone who likes AL&S apply for the 'brochure'. It is beautiful. A hard back book with full page photographs of the movements. Truly awesome.
I own a Nomos Orion Datum 38mm and I would say to not let the size deter you. it’s all dial and the lugs help with tremendous presence and feel on wrist.
This is why I love the Watchfinder videos: making the unobtainable obtainable! More new watches come over the horizon here than from any other video producer I know. Great stuff, THANK YOU!
I enjoy these reviews the most , one can certainly appreciate the etherical level of skill and craftmenship that goes into an ALS or Patek ...etc ,but few of us can afford or justify the cost to have one , to see similar watches that are attainable to the enthusiast gives one hope and inspiration to rise to that next level ...
Eh. Could be the other way around too you know? You buy the alternative and realize in a couple weeks it was never really your style. Has happened to me more than once; bought the watch i wanted to and realized wasn't into it after all. PLUS, you'd baby the ALS. What's the point of an Uber expensive watch you never get to truly wear and enjoy. To each their own though.
@@stritlit Also... I thought I wanted a sub, but wasn't sure. So I bought a homage watch to wear for a while. I love it, and wear it all the time. I no longer feel the need to own a sub, as the watch I have fits the bill for a fraction of the cost. This could happen here as well. You buy the less expensive option, only to find out you like it just as much as you would the higher priced watch.
@@leyay7540 and the price difference/ fit and finish aren't far apart too . The Rolex / Tudor price difference is miles apart while the finish is close to a Rolex
I am currently wearing my Glashütte Original PanoLunar and until I can get a A. Lange triple split, I’ll be loving it. No one ever ask me if I’m wearing a Lange 1. They just say nice watch or wow! Unique watch, what is it? Great video as always.
My GO gets the same response. The 1% of watch nerds who know the connection between the two brands give me praise for getting so much watch for such little money. Everyone else just stares.
Have a GO too and i get the occasional "wow what is that" . There are little watch nerds out there and still have to meet someone who knows the brand at a glance.
Am I the only one that is way to far off the 14k£ first Lange in this video but still tempted enough to call it a consideration at least? Sure, its double the bigdate Glashütte Original - but its still a Lange. A damn beautiful classic one. For my 40th.
Yes watches are crazy - you look at a 25K watch and think, "hmm.. that seems fair" - and then you realize you could buy a Porsche for the same money or put a deposit down on a home!
I think a more fair comparison to the Saxonia Ultra-Thin is the D. Dornblüth & Sohn Kal. 99.1 which retails for just over US$4000. These watches are completely hand built from the ground up by a father and son team in the small town of Kalbe, just outside of Dresden. The quality of hand craftsmanship is quite incredible for the price.
I would live to own an A. Lange & Söhne, but I can't afford one. Liked that the alternatives are also German made watches; good German made watches for that sake too
I have decided that when I retire (in three years), that I will celebrate with an A. Lange & Sohnne watch. I am a poor state employee who has no need for such a thing as this, however, I will have it.
What I like is that the recommendations are fine choices. This is not a where to buy a cheap copy video. These are fine watches. I own a Nomos and a watch from GO is my next goal. I woud love A. Lange, but a house is more practical for me.
Damn fine watches those Germans make, whichever one you choose, if u can't harvest enough organs to afford the A Lange Sohne options...Another great video, they just keep coming on this channel..
Hahaha. "As German as a bratwurst wearing lederhosen ,turning up on time". Superb. Which watch? The difference between robbing a bank or robbing a corner shop to get the dosh. The hell with it , I'm off to rob a bank.
Lange and Glashütte Original share a parking lot as well. They're literally next door to each other and they share the a vocational watchmaker school and museum. Quite awesome
I tried on a panoreserve today, oh wow what a watch, it is everything you hope it will be, it’s my attainable grail watch and like I say it’s everything I hoped it would be. I have a long term plan for my ultimate grail, an ALS, some investments but those are long term, I shall enjoy the panoreserve in the meantime.
Interesting fact: the Lange 1 and the PanoReserve were actually designed at the same time. It was not quite a thing like "Lange did it and then GO did it." They both relied on geometrical shapes in wich order the conplications should be aranged on the dial. With the Lange 1 it was a Triangle and with the PanoReserve it was more like a Rectangle.
I think Glashutte Original is under appreciated here in the US. They have some great movements, obviously not at the same level of A Lange and Sohne but for the price, especially on the used market they can't be beat. I also prefer their date implementation over the A. Lange and Sohne's version. I like the panolunar (?) with the moonphase. I'm not sure why they're not as popular here - maybe bad marketing? A great watch nonetheless.
Totally right! In fact, one example is that Swatch Group was not at Baselworld or SIHH this year. They organized events with new products in the local factories in Switzerland instead. Guess where they put GO, as they had to come from Germany? At an Airport Hotel. Then again, GO also invested most of their Swatch Group budget to become fully vertically integrated and completely independent (they even bought dial factories and build tooling factories in Germany). There might be also Swatch Group resentment as they're not Swiss? But Swatch Group is anyway incapable to manage their three Top Brands (GO, Breguet, Blancpain). No GO ads at International Airports in New York, etc or Wallstreet Journal, The Economist. People don't even know that they have extremely complicated, unique and innovative chronographs, alarm watches and world timers. It's a bit of a shame, tbh
@@jennyp.4603 I wouldn't say that they're incapable, they just spend way too much time, capital, and labor resources into Omega and Harry Winston. Just look at what happened to Jaquet Droz. Perhaps the most promising brand in their portfolio and they just shut it down because of very few sales, and it's mostly their fault. They never came up with any relevant advertising, near 0 brand awareness here in the US, and Swatch group didn't want to invest the time nor resources in marketing the brand. Extremely beautiful watches but barely anyone knew about them. Not too dissimilar to GO's story. They could be next in the chopping block along with Blancpain. I get the feeling Swatch Group will soon consolidate their luxury offerings into only 3 brands: Breguet, HW, and Omega. Could also explain why Omega has been expanding in all directions, price-wise.
I got myself this Nomos and an AL&S (used from chrono) yesterday. Thought I was going to be in trouble with my other half but she just said that I shouldn’tfeelguilty about doing things for myself once in a while and not to go crazy
I completely sympathize with your comment about Lange & Sohne being out of reach but greatly desired. These three definitely were more affordable options, particularly the Nomos. But the Glashutte Original watches did give the design of the Lange's shown competition in design. In fact, the 2nd watch, I found the GO dial to be a bit less busy and more balanced in design than the Lange. Even the 3rd GO I found to be a bit more appealing. I've also eyed the Muhle Glashutte watches in addition to the Nomos and the Glashutte Originals. Some really fine watches coming from German watchmakers.
@@leyay7540 You're right, just like many Credor watches or something from F.P. Journe. I was just exaggerating because I had seen the watches from the video before and they looked amazing by themselves, until you put the Lange next to them
Such an amazing channel with great content, thanks for the knowledge and advice guys, I’m learning something new everyday for which I’m grateful and appreciative. Keep up the good work👍🏼
Just saw my first Tutima a week ago down in Scottsdale. Gorgeous watch. A fellow sitting the table beside me at beakfast in the hotel was sporting one. I only noticed the Flieger style and asked him what it was. He seemed rather flattered that I noticed. It's now on my list too.
Been looking at both these watch makers so I thank you for showing them. The main problem with these guys is how had it is to see them first hand at a dealer.
How I also want an A. Lange & Söhne. What happened to the last phrase that I almost hate to hear because it means the video ends "Find more exceptional watches at watchfinder.com"
You can judge me for posting about a sub 1000 dollar watch here but the Sugess moonphase master is a super cheap but still fully functional chrono that imo looks great and has the “vibe” of the 1815. Theres a guilloche version and an enamel version with lume. It uses st1908 which uses the ty2528 gears for moonphase and a date pointer as well which for me makes it the most useful and most good looking watch i own.
That glashutte orig. but with the moon phase I was looking at it recently and was really stunned like wow this is a beautiful beatiful watch. When I saw the price was less than 12,500 American dollars I was blown away. It reminds me of Today’s Tudor watches. Most ppl think if that’s a cheap version of rolex, but then when you hold and wear a BB, especially the bronze ones you realize wow this is, all on its own, an incredible watch. Better than a sub to me honestly.
The GO Pano actually has the nicer dial design, IMHO, especially with the moonphase. The big date may even be objectively better conceived - without that middle ridge...
reason why there is simply no alternative to AL&S for me are actually the hands... this crisp sword-like shape is unparalleled. The Muhle Nautische Instrumente Teutonia IV models come close but at like 5mm more thickness...
Yeah that Pano is quite a piece. Good enough to not give you a constant mental reminder that you simply don’t make the cut for a Lange. I’ll be looking into the Pano. Thanks for the excellent video. 👍🏼
