Wonder how three clavichords would compare to one another?
Great question by Luca Simoncini, who asked to make such a video since I do (did) have three instruments in house: two big Saxon clavichords by Joris Potvlieghe, and one fretted instrument, late 17th c., by Christopher Clark.
The big Saxon clavichords are more or less the same style, although you'll hear some strong differences. The fretted one of course is totally another style and building time. But that might just be the more interesting to show you what a incredible new world was created by introducing the first unfretted clavichords, maybe even end 17th c. It changed much of the musical practice (I believe). But that... is a topic for another video.
Have fun with this comparison!
