I'm thankful to hear about the study habits. I was advised in undergrad to use the study blocks and those weren't for me. Hearing that those would be those things are used in law school scared the crap out of me because I don't like them at all and I don't think I could make myself like it. For me, I would type out my notes and then write them down after class to help retain them but I did it by lines but not thorugh blocks or anything.

Soooo fun thing about that first point? My school doesn't give you a choice. You don't buy your own books. In your tuition and fees statement there's a line for "Books and Supplies" - all one line item so who knows what you're paying for any particular thing - and then they supply the books. For my first year that line item is $1,600. How much is each individual book? What 'supplies'? Who knows? You just have to pay it and then they give you what they give you. Not a fan.

I'll be the first to admit that my 1L outlines are not great, so I don't think sharing those will help you very much. But I'll definitely work on a video with some more detailed outlining tips that I've learned through hard experience!

Hi! Thank you so much for watching! I’m glad you find them helpful 🤗 I will be making more videos! Studying for the bar had me totally out of commission but I’ll be back with more videos soon. The way my law school worked is you only had required classes during your first year; you had basically unlimited freedom to choose your classes for the remaining two years. I took mostly experiential courses and clinic with one traditional lecture class every semester.

My law school library has them all over the library for free student use! I’m sure your library would also provide access to a book scanner if you ask your library staff 🤗

What does it mean to "NETWORK"

I think it means many things in different contexts, but in law school, it generally means going out of your way to meet new people in your chosen profession and personally connect with them. Law schools tend to host dedicated “networking events” where the entire goal of attending is to meet new people, make a few connections, and hopefully leave with some names and business cards of people you’d like to keep in touch with. Building my network in law school has been incredibly valuable for me personally!

Okay so with the cheat codes on getting books…. Access codes?

Unfortunately the copies your law library will make available generally don’t have an access code you can use for the online materials that would be available if you bought your book new. However, most publishers will have the online materials available to purchase for a way lower cost than buying the book new. I did this in one of my classes and I think the cost for the online materials was $70. The cost to buy the book new (w/ access code) was $290. Hope this helps!
