Excellent again. You're killing it at the moment. I think it's worth saying that the distance trap has to be believable - attacker has to believe that defender CAN retreat and pull him short if he attacks too short distance (lunge/step lunge) - this FORCES the attacker to attack long (two-step lunge or more), and opens up the timing for the counter attack (with blockout) against the held attack. If they don't believe then attacker can just hold distance and push defender to the back where they run out of options.
Yes, fantastic video! Better than any tactics lesson I ever received. Distance trap works better in foil. I have seen a lot of saber fencers screw it up (I flunged them).
Amazing work you've done! I am binge-watching your videos; it is shame that I hadn't found your chaņnel before. Well, counterattacks and different tactics how to gain a legitimit right for a counterattack had been my favourites while my modest career in sabre, 1972-81. So brilliantly explained by you all this stuff; kudos!
Ive been trying to master counter attacks lately and some of these tips are actually helping especially the distance traps, i use it for the counter attack from up also known as cobra when u hit in hand and swing back, i on purpose stupidly rush inside the middle and then just do the counter attack to the glove and run back, also the point that's very useful too but i didnt know abt the blade search trick, will use that too. Thanks 🙏
1:19 Benedek stopped moving forward twice. Heathcock could have just went for it because Benedek doesn't have the right of way anymore. I see a lot of these hesitations and don't understand how could some athletes just keep on moving backwards.
