In this video we will see the 12 ball hits and 9 effects system. A very versatile system for playing cajon or cabin caroms in 3 cushion billiards.
1. We will see how to mark the effects and ball hits
2. We will see the formula of the system
3. We will see how to calculate the arrivals to second band
4. We will see how to calculate the arrivals to fourth band
This system uses 12 ball hits.
The image on the left shows how to mark each of them.
Half a ball hit has a value of 6.
A quarter ball hit has a value of 3.
Three-quarters of a ball hit has a value of 9.
Full ball hit has a value of 12.
This system uses 9 effects.
The image on the right shows how to mark each of them.
When the angle between balls one and two is greater than a diamond, it is recommended to mark the effects in the lower part of the ball.
The 12 ball hits and 9 effects system allows us to perform caroms like the one shown in the image, a very common position in three-cushion billiards that we must know very well.
This system allows us to select the effect and the ball hit to use from a list of possible combinations. Having this possibility is very important in the game of position, to perform series, because we can vary the amount of ball hit and thus place ball 2 in a fertile area that facilitates the next carom.
The angle between balls one and two is measured by drawing a line connecting the centers of the two balls. In the image it corresponds to the black lines.
When balls one and two are less than two diamonds apart, the black line should be drawn joining the inner edges of the two balls.
Each half angle diamond adds one point.
The numbering of the first rail corresponds to the position of ball two, this system is recommended when ball two is less than 1 diamond away from the first rail.
The arrivals in the third cushion are projected to the diamond.
In the image we have a value of 5 for ball two, a value of arrival of one and an angle value of 4, these three values: ball 2, arrival and angle, add up to a total of 10.
According to the system formula, we must look for a combination of ball hit and effect values that add up to a total of 10.
In this case we have selected a value of 3 for the ball hit and a value of 7 for the effect.
An important detail is that the value of ball two does not necessarily have to coincide with the actual point of attack on the first rail, as this will vary according to the value of the selected ball hit.
A flat, horizontal cue should be used, as parallel as possible to the surface of the table.
Semi penetrated stroke. It is best to practice it at the gaming table.
Let's see some examples
In the image we have a value of 6 for ball two, a arrival value of 3 and an angle value of 2, these three values: ball 2, arrival and angle, add up to a total of 11.
According to the system formula, we must look for a combination of ball hit and effect values that add up to a total of 11.
In this case we have selected a value of 3 for the ball hit and a value of 8 for the effect.
In the image we have a value of 7 for ball two, a arrival value of 7 and an angle value of minus 2, these three values: ball 2, arrival and angle, add up to a total of 12.
According to the system formula, we must look for a combination of ball hit and effect values that add up to a total of 12.
In this case we have selected a value of 6 for the ball hit and a value of 6 for the effect.
This system allows us to calculate the arrivals to the second band and in this way have a better visualization of the complete path of our ball.
The value of the zone is determined according to the point of attack on the first rail.
In the image we have a zone value of 0 and a third cushion arrival value of 25, and thus we obtain a value of 25 for the second cushion arrival.
These arrivals are projected to the diamond.
Let's see before a special way to mark the effects from 5 to 8, which are applied in the lower part of the ball and which is recommended to use when we have an angle value greater than 2 diamonds.
In the image on the right we see different ways to mark effect 7.
To calculate the value of the fourth rail arrival, we use the aperture value in diamonds between the 2 ball and the fourth rail arrival point.
In the image we have a value of 6 for ball two, a value of 3 for the aperture and an angle value of 2, these three values: ball 2, aperture and angle, add up to a total of 11.
According to the system formula, we must look for a combination of ball hit and effect values that add up to a total of 11.
In this case we have selected a value of 3 for the ball hit and a value of 8 for the effect.
