I’ve seen bison plenty of times at Elk Island National Park. I want to hike up the Cascade fire road this summer to the Panther River to try and see bison. So cool you got to see the reintroduced bison!

Oh man - is that Kane Outdoors? I just subscribed to him a couple of days ago and I was just thinking that both of you have some of the best channels around - mixing in some gear stuff, but focusing more on the outdoor experience and general tips! Great to see this collaboration! And this trip? Oh man! I'm envious!

Same problem with my Atmos 65. That hip belt is 💩. I adjusted my shoulder straps down with the velcro thing and that helped a lot but still not super happy with it. Getting the Arch Haul for Christmas.

Might not be the best pack for a long thru hike but I find that being 6’2” the Teton Scout 3400 seems to hug my body perfectly and I feel that it will be ideal for shorter to moderate length backpacking trips. Obviously shorter trips will be what I do before any longer ones. But I live in Florida and it’s summer so I’m waiting for the season to change before I go. 90 to 95 degrees with frequent rains aren’t ideal for backpacking when you can have 85 degrees and dry!

OMG I want to hike there to see the bison! That was fricken awesome! It looks like a kind of tricky trail tho. I've never hiked in the Rockies. And only a few day hikes in the Appalachians in North Carolina. It would be cool to see a herd of bison that far in the middle of nowhere! When were they reintroduced Justin? It seems a pretty bealthy sized herd.

That crusty snow with loose powder underneath is the worst, when my big-ass 12x42 GV Wide Trails sink that’s about when I call it quits for the season. I have a 6 y/o Atmos 50 AG that’s just amazingly comfortable with 35lb, does yours have the AG suspension or is it the Airscape? Mine hugs my hips so well I could almost not even bother with the shoulder straps.

Hey, I just started watching this video. I’m as far as the segment on the bear footprints (at about 5:30). I’m no bear expert. But, that looks like prints from the same bear, the “front” one being the larger back foot and the “back” one being the smaller front foot, walking in a typical cadence in a straight line. By the curve of toes, these look like they were made by a black bear (as opposed to a grizzly which has toes straight across). Anyway, I’m enjoying your video, so I’m going to get back to it now. 🤓👍

So with the foam pad addition to the Helix, was that sufficient on frozen ground/snow? The Foam Shop here in Vancouver sells 1/8" CCF similar to GG's in a 48x96" roll and they will cut it to size to match our 25x72" Helix RW pads, tho idk about the taper. But 1/8" pad is more about having a wide enuf pad for protection/stealth than additional R-Value, tho they do sell thicker foam. I'm just wondering if the 1/8" pad tapered, will fit in the extra room of the Helix's stuff sack to make a complete 3-season kit 😜

Oh man the bisons were a sight! Have you tried using skis instead of snowshoes? Looks like you could have done almost all the way on top of snow. Faster and lighter to use imho and going down is breeze!
@JustinOutdoors
@JustinOutdoors 11 месяцев назад
I usually use skis when I know I will be on skis most of the time. The snowshoes I brought are quite a bit lighter than a pair of skis.

@JustinOutdoors what are your thoughts of the Insta360? I like the idea that you can get drone like shots when you are in the backcountry. Would you be able to use that as the sole camera for a backpacking trip? I currently use a GoPro, and I like the idea of the massive self stick getting you in the shot as well!

Beautiful hike. I hike mostly in black bear country and we either put food in a bear proof container or hang it high in a tree. I have never seen anyone hang food low in bear country. Is this a common method in Canada?

0ºF quilt in 20ºF temps sounds like EE is being a bit too generous with their ratings...
@vinoto
@vinoto Год назад
EE is overrated. Not to mention their customer service is atrocious. I bought a Cumulus quilt shipped to US -- better value, more down weight, and no duty tax. And European down standards are 50 FP more.
@BookwormSkates

I got an ee 20* quilt a few years back and I can't take it down to 30 without wearing a bunch of down or wool. Got a hammock gear 0* in the April sale that I'll try this winter.
