JUNE 2023
Lower Salt River, Bartlett Lake, & Roosevelt Lake. Three locations in one week. Caught a bunch of dinks and one, HUGE, lake monster bass.
Baits Used:
Lower Salt River: Wacky Rigged Yum Dinger 5" Senko - Junebug color; Rapala Ripstop 09 Jerkbait
Bartlett Lake: 6th Sense Curve 55 Crankbait - Black n Blue Craw
Roosevelt Lake: Berkely Money Badger Crankbait - Special Red Craw
Roosevelt Lake:
Fishing was extremely slow. 3 hours without a bite.
Having tried nearly every bait in my tackle box, I started throwing a Berkeley Money Badger crankbait. I was in auto-pilot casting mode not really expecting anything, pondering if I should call it a day when this fat Mama bass decided she was hungry.
My drag was too loose when she hit. Fortunately I got a good hookset. However, in the excitement with my adrenaline pumping, I accidentally thumbed the spool release instead of the adjusting the drag and backlashed my reel mid-fight. I now had limited line to work with and everytime the fish made a run I was in danger of snapping off.
Somehow, I managed to fight through it; even surviving two violent leaps which usually shake a hook. I couldn't believe this behemoth bass didn't break off. Soon though, it was over. The 2nd largest bass I've ever caught was in the net.
What a catch! Really makes it all worth it and saved what was otherwise a bust of a day on the water.
Can't wait to do it again.
THANKS FOR WATCHING!
