It's a fortress, used by the central monk body and govt administration , not a king's palace, king's palace is built up with simple wooden planks just below that fortress.

information: That is not a kings palace, that is the administrative building of Thimphu District called Trashi Choe dzong. It is a administrative building which holds different branches of department offices And it has the office of His Majesty The Fifth King of Bhutan and prime ministers office and also the religious building. hope you had an ejoyable stay in Bhutan.

For indian no visa is required but you need to produce your Voter ID and fill up your itinerary at the immigration office at Phontshelling incase you want to visit Thimpu and Paro,also you will be charged ₹1200 per day for your stay in Bhutan.For other foreigners they will need Visa
