Hiking and camping a 24 mile loop in the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. The trek begins from the Bandy Creek Hiking trailhead, dropping down into the lush valley of the Laurel Fork Creek. The Laurel Fork Creek Trail has a wild feel, winding through mossy clefts mixed with views of chutes and waterfalls. From there I took the John Muir trail up to the sandstone bluffs of the Cumberland Plateau where I was treated to epic views of the gorge carved by the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River.
Recorded Oct 23rd - 25th, 2021
Route Breakdown:
Day 1 - 4.80 miles
Trails: Unnamed Trail → Bandy Creek Road → Duncan Hollow Bypass → Jack's Ridge Loop → Laurel Fork Creek
Day 2 - 12.4 miles
Trails: Laurel Fork Creek → John Muir → Grand Gap Loop → Angel Falls Overlook
Day 3 - 6.30 miles
Trails: Grand Gap Loop → Fall Branch → John Litton Farm → Bandy Creek Road
Total Distance: 23.5 miles

I've been slacking on social media lately and I missed the notification for this one. Shame on me! I was missing out! I love the BSF and you made me feel like I was right in the middle of it. I continue to be impressed by your editing and composition. I really like the sound mix on this one too: the crickets and katydids, all the flowing water, the footsteps, the relaxing music. Excellent campsites, with the waterfall at the first one and the incredible skies at the one near the overlook. Your videos always inspire me to get back on the trail AND work on my own videos. Well done as always!
@OutdoorOperator
@OutdoorOperator 2 года назад
No worries, dude. We all need our time away. Love me some BSF as well. I was stoked to get both of my intended campsites. BTW thanks for the beta on the campsite at the overlook! (I knew about that one from your BSF video) Your videos have the same inspiration on me as well! Looking forward to checking out your latest. As always I appreciate the kind words. Thanks for watching.

This was a stellar video. You captured the essence and feelings I get every time I visit the BSF. That first campsite with that waterfall was unbelievable. Do you mind me asking what trail you were on during that stretch? I need to go on a deep dive in your archives- you are making great content! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, BB. I really appreciate your feedback! The BSF is an amazing place and I can't wait to get back to explore more of it. The site was located off of the Laurel Fork Creek Trail (36.52222, -84.68983). It's one of my faves and I was lucky it was available!

Awesome backpacking trip in BSF. You picked a great route to see a lot of what the park is all about. The views along that part of the JMT are the best in the park. This video was so calming. Very well done Outdoor Operator. You were on your way out as we descended into the No Business Creek Drainage on that rainy day. I hope your video helps others see a bit of the ruggedness and beauty of BSF.

Great video brother. I have never hiked the area but I am seriously considering it. I like to be very isolated on my hikes. I'm curious how many other hikers did you pass on this trek?
@OutdoorOperator
@OutdoorOperator Год назад
Thanks Casey! Sorry for the delayed response, just got back from a trip. I also seek out isolation. I saw two groups of backpackers the entire trip. On the John Muir I saw about 5 or so mountain bikers. I like BSF because it's more isolated. There are a lot of popular accessible areas nearby that get more attention.

Absolutely stunning film. I've watched outdoors/nature presentations my whole life, have wandered many wildlands all across the West, and know a tiny bit about handling a camera in the woods... and I gotta say... this is among the best I've ever seen. No b.s., no jarring musical choices, just utterly sublime views of the terrain, the forests, individuals of plant & other species, all at interesting angles & beautifully shot. And you put an INSANE amount of work into this (!!). Subscribed instantly, and am delighted to be among the first 100 subscribers on what will surely be a 10K-plus channel before you know it. Can't wait to catch up on all your other films. Hat's off to you & well done sir.
