Wish I knew this years ago. I’m 70 and I could never read property. I was always put at the back of the class when I was at school. Thank goodness things have changed and dyslexia is recognised as a positive not a negative. 👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you for some welcome encouragement . I was always in remedial classes at school and told I was lazy . One teacher even seemed to enjoy humiliating me over my poor spelling. I took a test and confirmed I have dyslexia just two year before I retired, better late than never , eh? Dyslexia slowed me down but never stopped me I had a relatively successful career. Now I understand what the problem was. I always wonder how my teachers from the 1970s would view there lack of empathy, I don’t believe they would have laughed at me if I had were in a wheel chair or if I was short of a limb. My daughter teaches now , I understand that she is trained to recognise the symptoms of dyslexia. Good luck to all of you living with dyslexia . Enjoy your wonderful creative minds as I do mine. 🥰
I found out I am dyslexic last year. I have been let go from 2 jobs now, because I struggle to process and memorise information. Can anyone help me here, I am not stupid, but I am a slow learner.
Tom Barlow How old are you? No one noticed until you were an adult that you have it? Wow, you may not be a slow learner, you're trying to do things your mind is not cut out for. What do you enjoy doing? Do you have a special talent? You may want to look into arts or building. You do not need to fit in a mold society has precut for you. I'm 57 and I have a difficult time with instructions. I hate reading but I can read and things look normal. It's just after a few lines I don't retain what I've read. I am an artist now. That stuff no longer matters. We do the best with what we got. Don't drive yourself nuts trying to be something you're not. Take what you love and make it a career.
@@walkinaxyl Hi mate, I am 23. I was diagnosed with it at 22. Yes, it wasn't picked up at all, I was just told I was lazy and stupid. I enjoy luxury watches and cars, maybe I should go into sales, but mind you, this whole pandemic would of screwn up the luxury goods market.
Tom Barlow not on-line. You’ve got the world at your finger tips. Try going to estate sales and antique or thrift stores. They always have watches. Could make easy money on eBay. I took apart my neighbors old electric range and am selling the parts. Got almost $400 for the rotisserie and $90 for the clock. Think outside the box.
Actually some dyslexics like me are good at maths. - Dyslexics do need to be taught maths in a certain type of VISUAL & conceptual way to make progress.👍🏻
Yap i 100% i agree As dislectic My self however, Wail I know exactly what you mean The only thing I'm sure for the stuff you said it's fine success in the life, It may be true that we see the world in different way and we are creative minds in most parts, However it's not gernty I will succeed in whatever gole we have in our lives Like any other person dislexic or not we fight to acive those goles we have in mind. Yes it's true that we preferred practical and not text from learning from example I will preferred to see videos instead to read a book 📖 for example. However wi still have to practice and wi failed ECT like any other person Wean you really think about it dislexia it's just i different ways off think 🤔 it's not better or worse it's just different. It's nothing Wong if someone are different but different it's not necessary mean better, In my opinion both dislectic and not dislectic people need to coexist because both brains 🧠 have the advice and distance. One other thing not every dislectic person have the same degree off dislexia, For example for it's very hard to learn to read as wean I was kid but I was never have problem with to distinguish Left and right I have seen some people on the internet the saying that dislexia and strangle to understand Left and Right something for my this looks wired because dispaid that I have all those reading writing problem's I never have problem with left right in most part But I definitely have different way off thinking 🤔
The reason dyslexic individuals are good at solving problems is because they can't rely on there memory to get themselves out of a jam. so they use logic, organized systems, and other tricks. This is practiced 24/7 so they get pretty good at it, in compared to those who don't practice such systems. Reading and spelling are always hard and clumsy to use efficiency to solve problems quickly to avoid getting severely punished by "noral" people. They use pictures, instead of written words, to make logical sense of the world and their situation and avoid getting in trouble because they forgot the unrelated lists of things to do and sequences that "normal neurologistically developed individuals" take for granted. "Creative ability" as you call it, is nothing more then shear survival in a world of bullies and heartless individuals that care little for dyslexics or other persons with similar disabilities!!
I swear I have dsylexia. Like I still can't spell it correctly. I have aphantasia a blank minds eye, but I never realized I can't see things in head even though I knew other people could. It's usually the other way around but I knew people can see things just that I can't. So sometimes words move around just a little but it's not constant. However I'm autistic with ADHD and no knew. I still keep getting my left and right confused and i can't handle more than one direction, like north and west. But being told more than one thing to do is also hard and never going to happen. And it's just confusing because I love to read but people with both aphantasia and dsylexia hate it, either of them but I love it a lot!
Welcome to the world of dyslexia. When I study a list of unrelated words, "a spelling test" what I remember is; ....well, if you took that list and splated black ink all over it, ..that's my memory. Even after hours or even years of encountering even the simplest of words over and over, I'll still have trouble remembering the correct spelling!!! The word "dyslexia" I have trouble remembering if it is a "y" or a "s" that comes after the "d."
Maren Barton Hold your hands out in front of you fingers together thumbs down. the left hand makes an "L" the right hand makes a backwards "L". If you see backwards switch it out. I always get lost going the complete opposite direction.
@@eldonjanzen9822 same but what I do to remember words bro is to break to down in my mind .Like for me to remember “dyslexia” I broke the word up in my mind like “dys- Lexia” .Hopefully this helps,I just recently found out I’m dyslexic at 20 years old and it’s a relief. Now I understand why I struggled with certain things my whole life ,and now I can play to my strengths DONT JUDGE A FISH BY IT’S ABILITY TO CLIMB A TREE, IT WILL LIVE HIS WHOLE LIFE BELIEVING IT IS STUPID Idk you but good luck my friend life is a trip and you are here to LOVE & EMBRACE the ride , live your life without no regrets because you won’t be here forever
I’ve been diagnosed by a professional as being dyslexic, and I have been told that im a creative person. I LOVE any form of art, writing, drawing, any crafts!!
@One Guy Named Ivan I feel you I also like to sing and play guitar and am pretty creative I would say but it doesn't matter what the edu system is telling you just be yourself I myself have been thinking of quitting a lot but idk

I don't have troubles reading or writing in English now but I do struggle a lot with my native language I can read it just a bit but it's hard to write in it
