already have caught a 30# Blue Cat off of these (going to try to get a 60#+ next year). ru-vid.comUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 Definitely very strong, and sharp. Additionally, the gap is wide enough to actually hook a fish (not always the case with circle hooks). I purchased the 8/0, but probably should have got the 9/0 (they seem slightly smaller than other 8/0 hooks). Additionally, having the point in-line helps if you drift fish. I have yet to get a serious snag with one of these hooks.
My Dad showed me that knot years ago,I still use the knot on all my rods for Salmon fishing on the Great Lakes. Thanks,I didn't think anyone used it!That was 45 years ago!
These are all fine knots. The only thing he’s not doing is wetting the knots with spit before cinching it tight which prevents the line from harm and lubricates it for better tightness.
That 1st knot is my locked doubled figure 8 knot that I invented for attaching braid to terminal tackle. There are 2 problems with braid that this knot solves. 1. Braid (GSP) has a very high modulous of elasticity, meaning it doesn't stretch much before failure. This means that when the braid is bent around a small radius, such as a knot, only the outside fibres take any load. With only a minority of fibres under load, the knot strength is greatly reduced. Doing a doubled knot, increases the radious bends because the whole knot is bigger. 2, looping the middle of the knot around the shank makes the adjacent, parallel threads pull in opposite directions, which compresses the strands together, greatly increasing the drag between strands. The higher the tension, the higher the compression & drag forces become, effectively locking the knot, even for notoriously slippery GSP braid.
@@robertlosasso4222 I believer your mistaken. I know the Palomar as a doubled overhand knot, not a doubled figure 8 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uWw_f7CQQLg.html
I never tie a hook with a Palomar knot I Snell my hooks with monofilament leader ,then I tie them to a swivel with a Trilene knot , always have a few ready when I go fishing then I just tie the line to the swivel .
We tested knots using fish scales...... the super improved clinch knot proved to be the strongest of all knots tested (20+ knots) ..... the basic clinch knot was one of the weakest of all with lighter lines
I know the clinch knot. I know the improved clinch knot. What is the super improved clinch knot? There are no videos on RU-vid (that I can find) of the super improved clinch knot.

After snugging up the knot, take the tag end and PULL it TIGHT before you clip off the tag end close to the knot. As a retired outdoor writer, I see this failed to be mentioned so much when explaining how to tie knots. Especially with braid in the lower poundage (30 to 40 lb. and less). With mono, wet the knot before you snug it up so that it cuts down on friction. If you clip the tag end too close to the knot before snugging it down, you run the risk of having the tag end slip through - especially with thin braid, or braid that is coated. With ultra-thin braided line, after snugging the knot, tie a simple overhand knot on the tag end and slide it up close to the knot and secure that before snugging it tight and clip off the excess tag end. I do this with all braided line rigs that will have a heavy load on it, such as a dipsey diver. It prevents the tag end from slipping through the knot. The distance to clip off the tag end is very good in the video. Snug up tag ends on uni knots before clipping off the excess as well.
When watching knot tying videos, I always notice the little bend in the line a inch or so above the the hook, which means the line was put under a lot a friction causing the line to heat up, they say to spit on before clinching up knot which works but not all time, so what I found out is, I take a little Vaseline between thumb and finger and run line for knot threw that, cinches up perfectly. No more heat bend above my Palomar knot
The first knot will never unravel if you tie it correctly. The second knot requires more precision and - the lighter your line, the more wraps you need to do.
Honestly, I think you are putting too much "pressure" on the knot. (Pun intended) -a knot is only as strong as the line itself. -you can break-off any knot on a weak. -it's impossible to break-off the simplest single knot on a strong line.
2nd knot is the improved clinch knot.. the 1st knot is better... but sometimes not necessary or convenient. The improved clinch is easier to mess up if you aren't careful
