Kyra! You have done a magnificent job with this video! I think its the best background video I've seen yet for ME. My favorite is the first one but I honestly love them all. I'm really hoping you'll do more of these background videos. I look forward to all of your videos! Thank you so much!!!❤
Love, Love, all this wonderfull Ideas, Kyra!!!!😍🤩 You always surprise me, please continue with this theme of backgrounds🙏🏻 ... Just looking at the page with the swans, I sat there and was amazed at the absolutely beautiful end result, because I would never have thought that something so beautiful could come out of these shapes, WOW!! I love your channel!!!💫❤️💫
These look great! What great ideas for backgrounds. My favorite was the first one because of how simple it is to do! Also, I think the name of the technique to create the tie-dye paint effect is called "scumbling" 😊 you basically scribble your brush bristles over the page to get an irregular texture. I definitely want to try more water activated media for my coloring pages.
I love this and while I don't have the acrylic markers, the way you added the clouds is fantastic. I'm going to remember this and how you added the trees in the recent video, making them similar to the one's already on the page. I would never have thought of this and I'm fascinated. Backgrounds have me totally intimated and I've never imagined I could do more than brush on acrylic paint or neo colors. But I when I get ready to try Worlds of Wonder (untouched on my shelf), I'm going to go back to these videos. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
This is so fun and practical! Thank you for starting this series. I would love to see backgrounds with gel crayons and neocolor IIs as those are some new-to-me mediums I’d like to learn more about. ❤
I love the way all 3 look! But I think the 1st one and 3rd one are ones that I'll actually use. The water will have to wait till I build a little more confidence! Lol 💕
Gosh I love your work - your such a great person to learn from, thank you Kyra - I am gonna have a go at this background myself and if I manage to get a good result I will post you a picture- thanks for all the hints and tips x
Funnily enough this month I just finished the elephant with balloons page and I did a similar cloud acrylic background. I only went with a white/light blue/sky blue with less layers of clouds, but I LOVE the way it looks. I've shaded over acrylics in Worlds of Wonder specially, as I find it goes faster to use them there, and it does work. You get more texture on the pencil shading because the acrylic has a rougher finish than the paper, and I can't really burnish over it, but it works! I have plenty of pages in Worlds of Wonder I do with acrylic+pencils since my hands tend to cramp when I try using just pencils and find that the paper in that book tends to soak/ghost with water based markers.
Nice video! For the final technique, I do something similar to your finger techniquebut I use a microfiber cloth instead of my finger. Burnishes it up brightly:) happy coloring!
Love the backgrounds, especially the last one with the purple. Also thanks for taking the time to mention ppl with hand issues. I would love to see how you would use gel (water soluble) crayons in a background ty
Yes! I know a lot of people have hand issues so I want to make my content as inclusive as possible. And for sure, I can definitely use gel crayons in an upcoming episode. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and watch! ❤️☺️
Thank you for another great video! So creative and fun to watch! I loved them all and am looking forward to what you come up with next…maybe Neocolor IIs? 😀
It's a tie between the water background and the twilight sky background. Definitely inspired me to give backgrounds a go. Currently I only have my pencils, I can't decide between buying alcohol markers or acrylic. I do have some gel pens but I wouldn't think they would be a good candidate for backgrounds. Can't wait for more in this series ❤
If you have a lot of single-sided colouring books I definitely recommend alcohol markers! I find them a lot more versatile and you can create some gorgeous blends. Otherwise I’d stick with acrylic if you have a majority of double-sided books ☺️
@@apicturedpurpose I only have one book that's single sided so acrylic sounds like the way to go for me. Up until now I've mostly used my glitter gel pens to do little dots and doodles in the background to at least give some depth to my finished pages. I think it's a start and when I look back at my very early pages I think I can see it looks more finished so I'm really excited to start being more brave with backgrounds 🙂
@@sjferguson It sounds like you’ve had a great start to backgrounds with your glitter gel pens. It can be scary to take the next step but I promise it’s worth it 😍💖
I think this series is a wonderful idea! Backgrounds are so daunting because if they are botched after the coloring, they ruin days and days of heartfelt work and if botched before the coloring, then they ruin a perfectly beautiful coloring page. Either way, the stakes are high so we want to KNOW what we are doing before we sign on to do a background project. Since I have done so few, I rarely do take the plunge. I just have so many questions. What mediums (of background) are applied before coloring and what mediums are applied after? What are the best tools (makeup sponges, etc) for which mediums? What pages are really best left with no background at all? I have seen super busy pages with super busy backgrounds (huh?!?!) and then very simple pages with a ton of white space with no backgrounds at all that look absolutely stunning. I know it comes down to personal taste, but perhaps some broad guidelines might be helpful? How to pick a color palette for a background? Most are rather monochromatic but some get quite busy on the color front. How can I add some bling to backgrounds in fun yet subtle ways? And finally, how to do backgrounds on only half a page without leaving the other half looking lonely and incomplete? As you can see, I am in DESPERATE need of this series so thank you so much for undertaking this effort! Hugs from Arizona! 😍
I’m so glad that this series will be helpful for you! I’ll write down these questions and try to address all of them in upcoming episodes! And you’re so right about ruining a page after spending days working on it. That’s why I avoided them for so long 😂💕
I’ve never tried Zest it but I definitely think it could be a great alternative to try out. Especially if you don’t want to deal with the heavy hand pressure required with the white prismacolor. ❤️❤️❤️
