Well folks, I posted this video and then everything went a little wild at my house. Not unusual. =P But I somehow missed posting the links to the bread recipes that I mentioned ONE HUNDRED times. So sorry about that if you were here early on! Hope you are having a great day. - Sarah

Our Tribe of Many Sarah, did you forget to add the oatmeal to the bread machine recipe? How much oatmeal did you add?
@simonsienna

Didn't want this comment to get lost so posting it here. The Wal-Mart Supercenter stores that have a Hispanic food section usually has powdered milk there. It is whole milk and comes in cans. The brand names are Nido and Klim. Klim is the older of the two, having been available since WWII. Make sure the Nido is not labeled for kids, use the plain yellow labeled can.

It was 3/4 C oatmeal to each loaf, I believe. Sarah , if possible, ask Judah or Belle or Micah to post those links please. It would go nicely on a piano video👍🏼😃✅

Tip! While you have all of the ingredients out, measure out the dry ingredients, except for the yeast, and place then into a ziplock bag or other container, label with instructions to add the wet ingredients and the yeast. I make 6-8 of these bags at a time so the next several times I need to make bread, all I have to do is measure the wet ingredients, dump the contents of the bag into the machine, add the yeast and I’m done. Super quick! Love the video!

I was the youngest of 8 children and every Tuesday my mum would bake bread all day. She used a washing up bowl that she bought specially for mixing a large amount of dough and there would always be a hot barn cake dripping with butter waiting for me when I came in from school. The smell of yeast and flour immediately transports me back 50 years. The simple things in life are often the most poignant.

I’ve been making home made bread since early teens. My mom is a country cook with four kids. She made stuff instead of buying. I learned to cook and bake early in life. I ,as a 45 year old grown woman, use my kitchen aid too. Looks good to me how you are doing it. Never would know that you haven’t been baking most of your life if you hadn’t said. Kudos for teaching your kids! So many don’t even know how to work a stove!

You have gotten so good at your editing!! 😊 I wanted to thank you for uploading this! I'm a single mom without a job or any help from dad or anything, so things are tight. It's always been right, but especially now. I wanted to learn how to make my own loaf instead of relying on stores because "stuff happens" & I don't want to be dependent on stores or govt for survival. I need to learn how to make the basics at least & my son is almost 9 so I think after I master it, I can get him to learn too! Blessings to you & yours & everyone reading this!😊❤️

Homemade butter: Poor heavy cream into your mix master and whisk away. After a few minutes, the butter will separate from the buttermilk. Then, rinse the butter in ice water until all the buttermilk is gone and once the water runs clear, you have butter! You can add anything you want to it (e.g. salt). It is the best!

I just happened to have two loaves of Amish Bread baking in my oven when I clicked onto your newest video... When I form my loaves I split the dough into two pieces and I use my fingers to make a rectangle. I start to roll it up from one short end to the other short end so that you're rolling the dough kind of like you're making cinnamon buns and I place that roll into the bread pan. I also usually put a small pan of water into the oven when the loaves are baking to create steam when the bread is baking. It helps it rise nicely... Good job!

Hey Sarah, I love this bread recipe. I found this recipe on a another RU-vid video in October and my family fell in love with it. I love how simple it is. I went to Walmart a few weeks ago to get flour since bread was hard to find, and there was an older gentleman their and he asked me if I knew how to make bread. I told him this recipe since it was so easy to remember. 😊 Love your family!

Dear Sarah, I'd like to share my bread recipe with you today. It looks intimidating, but it's not once you get it started. It's a German recipe and especially the sourdough might be a nice project for your kids! How to make a sourdough starter: (Pro Tip: weigh your container first so you know how much starter you have when you want to use it!) Day 1: Combine 100grams of rye flour with 100 grams of water and let sit in a plastic bowl or glass jar (not tightly sealed!) for a day. Day 2-6: add 100grams of rye flour and 100 grams of water and combine each day. Make sure to keep 100grams of your starter back when using it and continue to feed it. The Bread: The night before you bake: Add 175grams of sunflower seeds and 150gr rye kernels (or rye flour - should work too) to 350ml of boiling water and let the mixture sit overnight. Bread time: Dissolve 15 grams of yeast in 150ml of lukewarm water. Add 600grams of sourdough, your sunflower/rye mixture alond with 300grams of rye flour, 150grams of (whole) wheat flour and 18 grams of salt. Mix with your dough hook on low for 30 minutes. Let the whole thing rest for 1 hour. Put it back on your standmixer and mix on low for as long as it takes you to grease and flour the baking tin. Put your mixture in your tin and let it rise for another 2 hours or so. Preheat your oven to 446F or 230C. Place your mixture in the oven along with a heat resistant container or baking sheet filled with two cups of hot water. After 10 minutes lower the oven temperature to 374F or 190C. Continue baking for 50-60 minutes. I make this bread twice a week, it is absolutely delicious, it's good for you and once you're in the grind of owning a sourdough it's really easy. Lots of love from Germany!
@StevieJJhall1997
@StevieJJhall1997 4 года назад
Also: depending on your baking tins it may make two loafs. When putting the mixture in it should fill the tin to about 70% to allow for a nice rise.

When I was 15,I learned to cook and bake at school and got to love cooking and baking. I've done it for so many people that I can't count,but my children were those that benefited the most. When I was 21 or 22,I wondered if it was better to make bread and give my children a healthier choice. Since then I've made bread of various kinds,almost every month,as long as I felt well. I've only start using a cuisine art since 2017,it use to all be by hand(maybe that's why they hurt so much now).😕 I can imagine the beautiful fragrance in your house.🍞😤mmmm.😊 Thanks for sharing.👍

Sarah want to thank you for your delicious bread machine recipe. Stuck at home since March 16 and I bake that bread twice a week for the two of us. I do add a few T of chia seeds, or flaxseed, or pumpkin seeds. And I use 1 cup of white flour in place of 1 cup whole wheat. We were given a flour mill and I buy fifty lb sack of wheat, so we grind our own WW flour about once a month and this makes a giant difference in the taste. Once I added cinnamon, raisins and chopped walnuts and that was terrific. I followed your advice and measure carefully and we figured out how to put it all in at night and use the timer so it is ready at breakfast time. Fun and rewarding in this time of crisis. Bless you.

Sara, we pick up the powdered milk, NIDO, It comes in large round canister at Sam's. 4 scoops makes 1 cup of milk. The hubby uses it in his oatmeal in the morning. YOU can make enough for each day and lput into a small pitcher or cup. ITS pretty good when it is cold for drinking. The graphic on the canister has a child, so you will see it in the baby area! It runs about $20. This is a good sub for regular milk from the store! Hope this helps! Stay safe! Virtual hugs to you and the family!

Excellent! I always love your "how to" videos, Sarah!! Everything you're doing is wonderful!! I am a cookbook writer and always have a few tips: 1) it is reactive metal that is dicey with yeasted things. And it's less that the metal kills the yeast than the acids the yeast produces eats through reactive metal and makes the bread taste funky. So stainless steel bowls and utensils are just fine because they aren't "reactive." The metals to be careful with are copper, cast iron, and aluminum. 2) your measuring method is great. Spooning flour into the cups and leveling off is fine. Also, the scoop and level method is fine. I see that there are all sorts of weird advice out there telling people that one way is better than the other. Both are fine if the baker pays attention. 3) I noticed that you are putting the yeast in the middle of the flour. This is fine, but active dry yeast revives when it is wet. So, to make things move a bit faster, I usually put the wet ingredients in the bowl (or the bread maker) and put the yeast in with the wet ingredients to give it a head start before I put in the dry ingredients. Nowadays, I use "bread machine" or "quick" yeast--which is almost exactly like active dry yeast but is designed to be put in with the flour.

Thanks for all your videos! We love to watch. You may have tried this before, my tip is to mix white and whole wheat flour. My family doesn’t care for the flavor of whole wheat bread so I started experimenting. When I make bread now I use a half and half mixture. They like it better because it is not as dense. All of your bread looked great, I’m going to have to make some just so I can smell it!

I've been making bread lately just because I'm bored and theres nothing better than fresh hot homemade bread! I might do it more often even when this whole mess is over with because I've been enjoying it so much!

If you are making yogurt and strain off any whey, it is yummy for bread making in place of milk or water. Thanks for the recipes! I am all about the bread machine.

I always use for white bread. 1 cup warm water 3 tablespoons oil, 2 tablespoons sugar (can use honey), 1 teaspoon salt, 3 cups white flour, 2 1/4 teaspoons yeast on top. Add to bread machine in that order. Comes out delicious

I have a 2 lb bag of yeast in my freezer from Sam's that I bought probably 8 years ago. We will see if it keeps that long. lol As a young bride I gave bread a try and had great successes. But pie dough, UHG! It is still a test of patience and grace to self for me. It's always like concrete! Thank goodness for store bought pie crusts. Stay safe and stay home! Love and prayers.
