This RU-vid is titled Things Your Doctor Will Not Tell You. Hopefully this is RU-vid generated click bait, since this is all basic knowledge to physicians. While true that not all docs are equal in terms of efforts in education, I fear that this presenter describes self as a biochemist, and while providing helpful education, gives no history of clinical experience, yet is rendering clinical advice, a little over her skis.
@SybalJanssen
@SybalJanssen 6 месяцев назад
If all MDs are familiar with this, why did my primary physician never mention this to me. Why has she stopped fasting glucose tests when it used to be a standard test. Why has my physician asked me why I wanted a fasting glucose test. Why did I have to learn about this from a biochemist instead of my MD as a matter of course? I don’t know the answer, but it seems to me that more civilians are obtaining more effective health information from biochemists than our own physicians. . . a thing to ponder on a rainy day.

At 69 years old, I’ve been on a Keto and fasting regimen for the past three years, maintaining a 30+ lb weight loss and vast improvement in health. I have a well visit with my PCP tomorrow and was trying to prepare, thinking about what tests I should have. Then YOUR VIDEO pops up on my RU-vid feed! EXACTLY what I needed! For the past three years I’ve watched countless videos and done tons of research to try to educate myself. I must say that yours is the most invaluable one I’ve seen, with the most succinctly presented information…and free PDF’s to boot! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. My goodness Jessie, I'm always thoroughly impressed with your teaching techniques and how you simplify everything that you explain. I would've loved to have you as my Pathophysiology professor in nursing school, better yet, as my teacher for my entire academic career. Also I wish medical doctors were taught more about nutrition and preventative care models and not just how to treat the health problems after they have occurred. I'm a nurse and I never would've thought to ask my PCP for a Fasting Insulin level. Definitely a Fasting glucose level. But not the Fasting Insulin level. Now I absolutely will request for one at my physical especially since I've gained a lot of weight in the past year since leaving my workout class last year and I'm also predisposed to diabetes.

Important clue might be, if you start to feel like sticked, glued, slowed down both cognitevitely and psyhically and you are only after your 30s or 40s or even earlier you should immidiately change your lifestyle and diet. Your doctor usually will tell you its normal especially when your results are in range. It s not. It s total bs. A lot of ranges covers people around 60 years old. It should be changed for age spans but its not. You should change your lifestyle and habits to feel like 20-25 years old and try to preserve this till you are above 60s or 70s. Feeling sticked glued sleepy means your cardiovascular system is getting broken your metabolism slowing down , you need a lot of antioxydants, protein and fiber, iron, vitamins b, magnesium, vitamin d, sleep and move your body. Diet should have very little amount of processed food or none.

I’m a 71 year old T1.5 diabetic and have an A1c of 5.5. Six years ago I started following Dr. Richard K Bernstein’s book “Diabetes Solution” and started a Low Carb High Protein lifestyle and changed my insulin regimen. I’m using 86% less insulin now & lost 70 lbs. to boot. A “Normal” human has a BG (blood glucose) of 83. I strive for this goal and it works, but it only works with a lifestyle change; away from the SAD (Standard American Diet) and going Low Carb.

I am a nurse, and we are not taught this. I am struggling with insulin resistance and its effects on my health (PCOS, fibroids, automimmune) and just got these lab results and now know how to interpret because the doctor only calls when the ranges are out of high range. Wow, now I know why I have CVD. Several years ago my doctor told me I had metabolic syndrome. My fasting glucose was just above 100 for several years. He told me to loose some weight. He never told me how to loose weight! Had to figure that out for myself. So now I’m 20 lbs lighter. A1c from 5.7 to 5.3. Low carb diet did the trick. I had two insulin level tests done within the past year. Two different labs and two different units of measurement IU/ml and uIU/ml. I used the IU/ml to calculate my HOMA-IR. Not sure how to convert one to the other. I enjoyed your presentation. I look forward to more.

I’ve been diagnosed as diabetic for almost 10 years. My Dr (GP in the UK) uses HbA1c as the standard test, not the fasting glucose. You mentioned the reason and the 2 to 3 month time period but glossed over why. Red blood cells (hence the Hb for haemoglobin) have a life span of about 2 to 3 months and are constantly being recreated. The glycation of some if these red blood cells occurs at their creation, hence the time period for an HbA1c test is the same as that of the red blood cells. The fasting tests are all snapshots in time and could therefore vary from day to day if retaken. The one test you can’t fiddle is the HbA1c unless you change your lifestyle over the whole two t9 three months (which might not be a bad idea for diabetics!). It is for this reason if ave4age over 2 - 3 months that HbA1c is the gold standard of testing glucose in diabetics (especially Type 2’s). Type 1’s have different problems due to the failure of their pancreas to produce sufficient insulin, hence frequent blood glucose measurement and possibly the use of an insulin pump to automate dosage is important for treating T1s. For T1s their HbA1c is an important measure but is 2 to 3 months too late to determine insulin replacement levels!

Fasting blood glucose level naturally rise if you move actively (walk fast, workout in any way) and can rise from 70 to 90 simply moving your body. A boold measure is an instant measure. Use a CGM to really figure out your glucose pattern
@marekgiedyk512
@marekgiedyk512 7 месяцев назад
Actually its the opposite. When you move, you use your blood glucose and your body gets its nutrients easily. High glucose and high insulin leads to hipoxy, your body And your brain does not get enough oxygen.

When I go on a brisk walk after eating my glucose values typically go down. But I do agree that when fasted and undergoing a hard workout that your glucose can rise, as you mentioned. I think it's because the liver releases glycogen (i.e. sugar that is stored in your liver).
@aventureraclette
@aventureraclette 6 месяцев назад
In reality, it is not physical activity that increases the amount of glucose in the blood, it is due to the release of cortisol, and it depends on the person, but in general it is after a long effort ...

My fasting insulin level is 5.6, and HOMA ratio is 1.7, that is both are in the optimal range ! Cool, so glad 😊 I have also put my first CGM today. Thank you for the advice to not increase the glucose level by more than 30 mg/dl. ❤

@@rabbitgirlz4380 There is no test for HOMA-IR. It is simply a mathematical calculation that you do yourself once you have your fasting glucose and fasting insulin values.

On a perfectly unprocessed vegan diet my fasting insulin crept up year after year until i was becoming faint in between meals. HIGH FAT Meat based diet fixed that in about 30 days. Beef, lamb, salmon, butter, eggs with small amounts of veggies and fruit My fasting insulin is now a 3 🎉 perfection. Triglycerides are very low (can't recall exact number) Calcium artery test perfect 0. It's been about 2 years now and i feel great. My periods came back too and I'm 51 y/o ❤

Hi Jess! Thank you for this so extremely interesting and helpful video! Just a question about fasting glucose and insulin levels: avarage how long does it take to reduce them? You said in your experience you were 95 and are 85 now (or something like that sorry I don't remember exactly!). But starting a new life style, with your hacks and good habits, how long did it take you? And do you think it is possible to avoid pills like metphormine if we follow all your haks? Thank you for your daily help!!!

I have a continuous glucose monitor (CGM - Dexcom G7), and it is very accurate under the right conditions. It matches or is with 10 units of a finger-stick blood test using a glucosometer. It does need calibration adjustments when it is newly inserted. I do a finger stick and calibrate to that reading using the G7 application. It may take a couple times to get it really accurate on a daily basis. The app computes an 'average glucose index' over 90 days which is similar to the A1c. My actual A1c is always lower which is great. It is hard to tell but IMO the CGM is accurate in normal ranges but read high on spikes.

Very interesting and I would be rushing to see my doctor to ask for these tests but sadly in the UK blood tests are not performed regularly even when it might be necessary! and a patient cannot presume to ask a doctor for a specific test to be run!

Can’t stop watching these fabulous intelligent presentations. So much information and with her hacks so easy to implement ( eating plant based will be a slightly harder tweak, but at least I have the veggie starter down 😂😂). Have been watching my fasting glucose slowly creep up each year with no comments from any doctor. I always worried. This year I failed and HBA1c also on the border sooooo glucose goddess you have arrived in my life at the perfect time. Who says the universe or algorithms can’t give us a nudge! Will implement hacks and increase frequency of resistance training. Need to increase muscles, not lose weight. Give that insulin somewhere to put the glucose. Love you glucose goddess! And all of your super unique clothing choices! You are YOU! And ask doctor for insulin levels!!! 🎉
