I went on a shopping spree like this in 1988 and ended up with a PRS Custom (when PRS was new) and a Rivera stereo tube amp. I think it was $2500 OTD. These days, I'm happy with an import guitar (perhaps with new pups) and a Helix. I'm not going to take a $4k-$6K custom shop guitar to a bar gig. And I can't be bothered with schleping around real amps any more. My guitar sound would benefit a lot more from $10K in guitar lessons. Still a cool vid, even though I've recovered from GAS.

Fun, but not an easy question. I've got what I believe to be great analogues to most of what I want. Amp: Vintage (because you've given me the budget) AC-30. Worn-in, but not beaten Celestion Blues Guitar: Rickenbacker with toasters. Haven't really played any, so I don't know if I'd go the smaller 325 or the 360. Pedal: Tonebender Mk I. Modeling covers so many pedals these days, but this baby doesn't always play by the rules. (This is for personal use; in accordance with your hypothetical question: Otherwise, we'd all get an a "burst" and a dumble, then resell and get our 'only slightly less reasonable gear'). Great addition to your already fantastic chin-wagging sessions. That slide sizzled, Jonathan! Very tasty Baxter, like Mary in some sort of... flaming horse-drawn vehicle! Enjoyed.

25:00 I know, without a doubt, I could dial in that tone on my HX Stomp with a few pedals in loop and in front. BUT...there is something SO satisfying about a loud amp in the room. You just can't replicate it. I don't care what powercab you use or how you dial it in. Through the PA...I can get there. But louds amps are magical.

@markinthemix6055
@markinthemix6055 2 года назад
Where you getting parts for a complete build for $800? I have build 2 full STRATS from MJT and Warmoth. I’m $1500 in each time. Working on another build but it’s gonna probably be a bit more. I’m using premium high end parts but wow.
@A_Noid
@A_Noid 2 года назад
I'm sure you can build a guitar for $800, but you sure won't get components equivalent to a custom shop.
@jasonb2916
@jasonb2916 2 года назад
@@A_Noid the components they use can be purchased just like the custom shop purchases them so that their master builders can use them. I doubt they are making their own pots, switches etc. You can make your own pickups as well.
@jfrankcarr
@jfrankcarr 2 года назад
@@markinthemix6055 Not every part has to be super premium, especially if your goal is playability and tone over aesthetics. It's also relatively easy to find perfectly good parts being sold used at a good price by tone questors who are never satisfied.

I add my labor cost into an at home project to get a complete understanding of the actual cost invested. Even at a low $15hr you may find diy isn’t as cost effective as it originally seemed. But, still do it yourself is fun and can often save some moneys. It just requires some free time.
