3 Financial Lessons The 2020s Have Taught Us (So Far):
The 2020s have gotten off to a bit of a rocky start. In fact, by one metric 2022 saw one of the roughest market downturns of the past century.
Today we’re going to be taking a look at each of the downturns we’ve experienced this decade, both from an individual investment perspective and from a more diversified portfolio perspective, comparing them to other market downturns throughout investing history, and discussing 3 lessons that can be learned from them going forward.

I'm glad to hear it! Yes, I do plan on posting more again. Due to demands on my time outside of the channel I don't think I'll be able to upload weekly like I used to but certainly more frequently than this summer ;)

@@NextLevelLife I always love the portfolio analysis videos and the strategies to maximize safe withdrawal rates. It's just the right kind of esoteric nonsense that I love.

Yes, it has been a really busy summer (which is quite typical for me). But it's starting to finally slow down a bit so I wanted to get back to making videos again. I don't think I'll quite have enough free time for weekly uploads like in the past but we'll see how it goes :)

What is the trigger point in a market downturn when we should draw from a cash reserve instead of selling stocks?

Dave Ramsey's magical four funds down 20+%.
@NextLevelLife
@NextLevelLife 10 месяцев назад
Yep. While it does have its strengths it also tends to be a bit more boom-and-bust than other popular approaches due partly to its heavy stock focus and its tilt toward growth-focused assets. That tendency shows up in times like the last year or so.

@@NextLevelLife I bet the fees on the funds are also higher.
@NextLevelLife
@NextLevelLife 10 месяцев назад
I suppose that depends on the funds one is comparing against. For instance Vanguard has some passively managed growth and international index funds that one could use to apply the Ramsey approach with expense ratios of around 0.06%-0.07%. That is a bit higher than a simple S&P 500 index fund from them (0.04% for VOO), but nothing too egregious. That said not all funds (whether passively or actively managed) are quite so affordable to hold so it's definitely something to keep an eye on when screening funds :)
