I recently bought a Mycle Compact and I am very happy with it. I like being able to fold it up so I can take it into places, rather than parking it in the street, even with a massive lock on it. It has power to spare and surges up the steepest hills. The range is fine for my purposes. Looks good too.
999. A grand. Affordable you say. "Only" 899. The idea that sub-1000 is the yardstick by which affordability is measured just shows how overpriced the market is in general.
@@syawkcab You can buy a decent retail battery with Samsung cells for $300. Bike manufacturers can get them even cheaper, and if they assemble the batteries themselves, even more so.
@@alanrmurphy I don't think it's even possible to find an electric bike at that price point. The most cost-effective way to go is to use a conversion kit, one advantage of that being you can add one to a 2nd hand bike that is better quality and lighter than most e-bikes. Of course you need a bit of mechanical know-how to install but it's not that difficult. You will have to do your own maintenance, but you do still get a warranty. I think £600 would be a reasonable price for an "affordable" pre-built e-bike (in the UK, adjusted down for US pricing).
I get you, but when the three grand mark is more common for a decent ebike, sub £1000 has to be called something... Especially for a tool you might be using every day to get you to work, where the money to pay for it gets made. In my opinion it will more than earn its keep. I got a sleek conversion kit at a discount for £529 (motor, sensors, battery, computer, front wheel)... I got my bike itself 10 years ago second hand for £300 which would have been £1000 brand new. So the fact that a brand new ebike with everything integrated, and no discount applied is priced £1000... is really impressive. There's in my opinion a bigger problem that people aren't paid well enough at their jobs, and the last 50 years has taught them that their wages don't need to grow, life will naturally improve with cheaper and cheaper high end products... It's harder to make it all add up.
I have so much love for this channel and most especially for Eilis. What a consistently brilliant presenter. It certainly helps that the subjects are aligned with my interests but her character and charming buffoonery are a joy. She is incredibly polished as presenters go, all without effort it appears. Personality and charisma in abundance. Oh and the channel, what a phenomenal production team and creative bunch you all are. Great research, great enthusiasm and great entertainment. Mycle is a British brand you say. Maybe a British company but the bikes are as Chinese as they come! I would be very concerned about getting them repaired, getting spares etc a few years down the line. But they do look nice.
Good video, good bikes. thank you. Better to have videos like this on electric devices that are legal, and not illegal to use on UK roads and pavements.
I really hope that the Government draconian laws around electric vehicles improves over the coming months for you people in the U.K. Please pray for us in Melbourne, Australia as well!
The UK laws for ebikes are rather liberal, in my opinion. You are effectively allowed to ride a powered bike on the roads without the need for a licence or insurance. The maximum powered speed allowed is as fast as you need/want to go on busy roads with no protection. I don't know why you can't have a throttle, but it's not a big deal.
Great review as always by Ms. Barrett. This channel is turning into a favourite. I like some of the design features of these Mycles but a lot of bicycles in this price bracket all suffer from the same problem, budget brakes. Mycle also put these mechanical disk brakes on, which are very underwhelming in brake performance. I would swap these for a set of Shimano SMT200 oil brakes before even contemplating going out on the roads. Doesn't cost the World and gets your stopping distance down a lot .

Thank you for doing a review of inexpensive ebikes. Most times people only pay attention to the higher end rides probably because the purchase link in their review makes more commission per sale.
I watch the channel; But I do find that sometimes you miss details of the bike, for examples, brake type, power of the motor; range on full power, mid power, or throttle only to name a few. I'm looking for bike with the requirements, to reduce the dependance on the car and raises heart rate and oxygenate the blood. (1). All round use bad rural roads / farm tracks, town, ; (2) Carry-on luggage; (3) Very good security. Is there anything you could recommend? I had in mind the Mycle Commander, what do you think?
Good review although as a bromptonhead I'd like to see if you can easily pick up and walk with the folded Mycle. A lot of bicycles fold but very few can be carried while folded, and even fewer have a "luggage" mode where you can fold and drag your bike along, like an airport luggage.
@@samueltaylor2757 but you can do it with a Brompton, even the electric. Some folding bicycles just open up like an accordion as soon as you lift them up, extremely annoying. Brompton just stays folded. Knowing if Mycle stays folded after lifting up is an important information to know.
It does stay folded. It has a magnetic catch which clicks into place when you fold it. The wheels are then lined up beside each other so it is well balanced. The wheels can turn freely, so you can push it along easily holding onto the seat. It is several kg lighter than other folding ebikes in its price range and only a little heavier than the lightest Brompton ebike.
The compact looks great. It's very similar to the estarli E20 however there was nowhere in the north to test ride the Mycle. We went to Keswick to try the E20 and bought 2.
I love the design of the battery being in the seat tube as you can’t get more centered than that. Also it leaves the bike to look just like the truest form of the non electric bike.
@@Electroheads The first thing I notied about the seatpost design is the lack of a locking mechanism. A decent % of the cost of an ebike is its battery and having a quick release lever being the only way these posts are secured means theft is a distinct possiblity. Although you can take the seatpost with you (especially for recharging @ work, etc.) it's not always convenient to do so.
I like the design of the battery in the seat tube, but being a man of more senior age shall we say, I like my comfort seat, so can you fit a sprung seat saddle? and what was than you connected at the base of the seat post on one of the bikes, looked like a classic case of getting chain oil all over your hands. Otherwise they look great bikes nicely presented Ms Barrett great location too!!
The problem of pollution from internal combustion engined cars will only be solved by first making a range of electric cars that are affordable the same goes for e bikes the other things are the need to solve the range anxiety of electric cars after all unlike people in Europe here in Australia we generally have travel longer distances the same problem would exist in the US and other countries that cover a large land mass.There will also need to be a much larger number of charging stations for electric vehicles at the sametime make the plug in charging points standardised. When it comes to a policy on electric vehicles here in Australia our government has fuck all policies in fact our arsole of a conservative PM scomo only has the policy agenda of keeping his rich mates happy so he can stay in power.I just wonder does your government in Britain have better policies on well electric vehicles.
I was impressed with the bike, the dispatch was definitely something that needs work but after 4 months and 700km the brake caliper broke, and Mycle took 2 weeks to respond about repairs, by which time after much chasing, I had already done the repair. Good bikes shame about the parts quality and service.
Not much detail but enjoyable to watch. These look like very affordable bikes but I'm not sure they would sell well in the US because of their low power and small batteries.
well! you've got the pure flux one, although there's no internal geared hub but there's a belt drive and is at 17.5KG. got mine 2 weeks ago and it's pretty good, but the brakes are not adequate and squeaky, I swapped the brake calipers with better ones now. I paid 949 pounds at discount
@@turilaing Nice. I have the Frappe City Sport FSS 400 (not electric - but belt driven). It has 7 gears but is terrible on hills as the lowest gear isn't suitable. The built-in mudguards are miles ahead of any third party ones since they actually stay on the bicycle and are metal. I had SKS mud guards catch when hitting a pot hole and wrap around my front wheel before.
I have a Riese & Mueller Tinker compact with Enviolo Vario hub and Gates belt drive. Very smooth with its Bosch Performance Line motor. Good gear range too - 380%. But it’s expensive (got mine as a demo model which helped).
What worries me (all these Chinese basic models) they may look ok as new, let’s have another look at them in 6 months time, I believe they are all very poor on the quality of all parts. Even £1000 is NOT affordable to many of us IF it only lasts a few months, come on Electroheads , paid promotions are just advertising ,so like other’s I won’t be parting with my hard earned money if they fall apart in a short time
Obviously £1,000 is only affordable to someone who has £1,000. In this context it merely means it is more affordable than some of the alternatives, eg a motor bike or a car, or one of the big brand name ebikes.

Let's see...999.00 British Pounds equals $1,725.16 Canadian Dollars ! This isn't an affordable bike - It's just another overpriced electric bike that regular folks can't afford ! @@madjooooo There are many affordable things in this world that cost more than £1,000, eg cars. And there are many people who can afford to buy £1,000 ebikes, even in the Ukraine. At the same time there are people everywhere in the world who are very poor, for whom even £20 is not affordable. For them, no ebike is affordable unfortunately. It's all relative.
Definitions as "incredible value", "affordable" shouldn't be used in this case. I mean online on youtube, viewed by the whole world. It is an insult for the people around the world who can't afford them. And believe me, there are plenty of them, millions if not even billions. If these definitions are used between people who can easily afford them - it's okay. If it is mentiond "affordable for westerners" - it is still okay. But bragging about your financial status and making poor people feel miserable is just awful. It looks like you and the creator of this video don't care about the social inequality nowadays.
