So proud of this beautiful young women for her accomplishments in the Olympics. May all her days to come be blessed and filled with greatness and happy times like these. Way to go Suni Lee!
For all the people keep saying why she don’t speak Hmong, please keep in mind she spends 40 hours a week training then more hours schooling. This takes a lot of hours and dedication. It’s not easy. Anybody can learn Hmong anytime no matter how old. I’m just so tired of people saying stuff they don’t even think about. Smh!!!
Agreed. Just because someone doesn't speak Hmong doesnt mean they are not Hmong. It looks like she is trying. Hmong is Hmong, and it is very narrow minded to exclude someone and discredit all of her achievements just because we dont hear her speaking Hmong.
Hmong American babies these days... fewer and fewer are able to speak Hmong anymore. But glad to see Hmong people supporting her and she owning up to her Hmong roots. Proud of this child.

Ain't no hmong going be as famous as General vang pao. Without him. We would still be in laos. She is 2nd to him. Only because she got🏅 from the Olympics.
@@leeyung8807 Yes, he did more for Hmong people, but large international groups of people across the globe don't know him. Has he ever been plastered all over the news or social media like Sunisa for his achievements, aside from the coup fiasco? If he's more famous than why didn't any US news network jump to interview him like they do w Sunisa? GVP only famous to Hmong people & others who are interested enough to learn about Hmong people. Sunisa is known all over the world by many ethnic groups.
Please don’t even mention Brenda song here she’s a sell out and does not claim Hmong people so she and her white washed family can go f themselves. Oh by the way, don’t mention Yasmi within the same breath of Suni Lee. Suni is an angel and her and her dad made known all along they doing this for the Hmong people, and themselves too.
We dont claim Brenda song (xiong)shes never done anything or mentioned our culture on her platform in all her years as a Disney actor no need to mention her.. I got nothing against yasmi she just getting to her bread and if it take her to show some skin from all them surgeries and singing in a goats voice then so be it idgaf. But sunisa I don't know her but it seems she came from putting hard work in all those year and family support. She deserves everything. When i was young in eastside all we did was drink and party. Everything comes in hard work and focus and dedication she deserves it all.
It’s okay if she can only understand in Hmong / or can’t speak Hmong. Nowadays Hmong people all over the world like China, Laos and Thailand etc. can’t even speak Hmong fluently, nor understand a single word; most time they be throwing Chinese words, Laos etc. (you get the point) Let’s be happy for our Hmong daughter/sister Sunisa Lee.
I would like to add that I feel like the ones who are very demanding didn't think that some of the "Hmong" words they used were Lao or a few or several of them were Chinese like the word "tsheb" as in car, which that one is Cantonese.
she cannot speak hmong, she made it clear pretty early on in her other interviews with hmong interviewers. she doesn't owe you or me or the hmong community anything. if she can't speak it, she can't speak it. let it be!
@@icianian - agreed! I believe that suni would 100 percent learn it if she could or go back in time and be bilingual! But I believe that Hmong is tonal which makes it a bit harder to learn at an older age (according to my knowledge)

@@baltimoreravens504 she's born in America. Biological dad's more than likely is from Laos. Adopted dad John Lee and mom are Hmong from Laos. Hmong escaped persecution from China and established tribes in the mountainous regions of Laos Vietnam Thailand and Myanmar. Hmong have its owl culture, custom, religion, beliefs, social status way of life just no country of their own but resettled permanently in America particularly in Minnesota, CA and NC. Once settled in America native Laos and Hmong communities found common grounds and status in the US and became socially and intermarriagelly in the traditional way and slowly integrating within the community, and the community of the local US small town USA. I myself was born in Laos and socialized here and there with Hmong friends because we have different cultures and languages but same country and we had to use English to communicate and socialize. That's why we don't use our native language because we had to assimilate and compete/survive in American society since this is our permanent home after the collapse of the Vietnam war. There was a secret war in Laos not a lot of America knew about it. Perhaps Suni Lee will put our history involvement with the CIA in the US history textbooks. Very proud of Suni and her accomplishments for being the first Hmong Lao to represent America and is a national winner, hero and champion.
Why is this say it tape in 2019? You guy should have released in 2019. Why wait till 2021 to released? Very proud of her. She bring so much honor into our hmong community.
She prob don't know how to speak but understands hmong, it's common for the 1st generation of hmoob meska by not knowing how to speak but understanding
