@@traysters3079 Charles Henri Sanson was the longest serving member. You can also find a book about the family called "Legacy of Death" by Barbara Levy...
@@traysters3079 Charles Henri was the executioner of Paris for over forty years and by his own count executed over 3000 people including the King and Queen.
I read the book on the Sansons. It amazed me that they were just generally accepted as power shifted from one group to another, sort of like the wallpaper in a room survives from one set of owners to another - amazing story.
Sometimes the horses were not strong enough to tear the limbs off so the executioner would have to assist by applying a few deep cuts to the muscles and ligaments.
@@geoffbell166 Method last used if I remember correctly on a spy working for Israel about five years ago by a special group trained in this method. They first rode along a public highway in full view of other traffic keeping enough tension in the ropes that were attached to the victim's limbs so that he didn't touch the ground. This was the picture they showed on one of the Arab news channels in UK.Commentator explains that they later increased the overall speed but that each motorcyclist would eventually travel at a different speed and so would result in limbs being detached from the torso. The aim of the method it seems was to prolong the suffering of the victim and set an example to wannabe spies if caught.
This comment section genuinely horrifies me. I don’t know how you people think this is “cool” or “impressive”. These men weren’t admirable. They’re monsters for becoming desensitized to this.
Is it fair to attribute horrifying execution methodes to the executioner? For what I know, they don't make the lawd regarding the punishment, rather than ... now executing them. Sure you need a certain brand of people who happily kill or torture other people. No doubt about that. But the execution methodes are rather a reflection of social values of that day and age - rather than the probable sadistic tendencies of the (in many cases) poor sob who had to do the job.
Executioners were vetted and had to have a mature moral outlook.sadists and psychopaths would have had no chance of obtaining the position. This video is sensational nonesense!
