DCA, get you cost per share lower….add more money to it while it’s in the red….its on sale. For the last few years after a company does a stock split, it usually goes down, Personally I put down 1.5m$ on few ETFs, still diversifying. it was this time last year I made my first huge break through with a liquid 200k. handed it to a trader here in FL, I get weekly pay out which I put back on long term ETF's. TSLY just filled a gap with this latest drop. I think it will start the assent now.
@@EricK-ms9tc Like Ian, I'm hoping to never sell and I'm not too concerned with the 'market'. I'm looking at the cash flows of the business and the probabilities that those cash flows can sustain the company and its ability to buy back shares, pay down debt and pay the dividend. There are no certainties, but what I can see is that things will be fine for the foreseeable future. I am not buying at these prices but would love to add and take advantage of the opportunity if market sentiment goes negative.
MO and BTI are my number 1 and 2 holdings, respectively. Have been for years. Also, ABBV im up well over 100% since Ian talked about it many years ago and it was out of favor then. Nearly a 7% yield on cost with ABBV. I love your content and transparency, Ian. Thank you. Doing well on many others. To each his or her own. Find what works for you and feel it out. This is a marathon. Being condescending towards others as far as their investments isn't helpful. Those who are harsh and judgmental may likely be bitter about their own investments.
Thanks for your incredibly kind and wise words! I’m not always so fortunate as with ABBV, but it sure is nice when things go so well. Appreciate your kind words and insights! Thanks for being here all these years! (Disc: I’m long ABBV, MO, and BTI)
Do you like holding thousands of dollars while on a rollercoaster 💵 🎢 3M is for you! 😂🎉❤ 🌬️ I’d have dumped it if I had it for better stocks. Good luck 👍
Always love the videos Ian! ❤ I’m also long BTI, recently added as I also believe they have a place in the future in my humble opinion; also great value ATM. I’ve been buying all my 15 or so individual positions, plus lots of SCHD, and some DGRO in the tax-free. SBUX, HSY, KR, DE, Lamb Weston, all looks very compelling and I’ve been doubling down in those. Also, BMY. That’s a great one with many new acquisitions despite debt, etc. They recently rallied and I’m continuing to load up as they were about half there all time high. Cheers Ian, God bless you and the family. Take care as always! 👍🙏
Thanks Ian! Appreciate your wisdom. I've also been adding to MO really the last 2 years btw 40-45$ now my 3rd largest position and largest dividend payer. Now I told myself I'd stop reinvesting dividends over 50. Honestly didn't expect it to get here so quickly so I'm torn. What's your 2 cents here? Thanks again
Waited 2 years to see MO where it is today and I couldn't be happier. These companies will follow the youth into vape pens. More children use vape pens than adults smoke cigarettes' now. I may dig a little deeper for more stats, but that is interesting.
Still working very hard! Same role, and trying to grow in my career. I'm just using dividends now to enjoy life a bit more, especially on family travel-related expenses. Even when I have dividends covering all expenses, I'm not sure I'll ever fully stop working. It's just how I am, as I do enjoy having work-related projects. Wishing you all the greatest!
He accumulates stocks/ETFs and uses dividends to pay bills. I don't get it either; I don't know how you do both. Perhaps he moves money between accounts.
As someone that has not much investment experience. You invest and use dividends to pay bills ( in part ). Now you have invested and got more then 7% more dividend income. ( maybe with MO is easier due to high dividend) . And that is a lot of money invested , let say you added 10 more many to the stocks ( that you already have ) . So the question is , where did this money come from? You had it as savings? Is the investing getting more secure so you reduce savings? Or have you sold something else that was not making enough of profit etc. This part of investment is something that I don’t understand ( I know that this question can be seen as private ) but I have only investing education in mind
PEP and SBUX didn’t do it for me this last 9 months. Dumped them both this month I think. 🤔 I’m at 20 positions and sone ETFs. It can get too complicated.
May I suggest that PEP & SBUX are multi decade positions. I look to Buffett’s purchase of KO or Bill Ackman’s ownership in QSR. Every stock has periods where it underperforms. Just my 2cents.
Dunno how tobacco stocks are "SWAN" when the profits are derived entirely from predation on people addicted to nicotine. My FIL could never kick the habit and was just diagnosed with stage 3 cancer...is that worth a 9% dividend?
Thank you for your comment, and for sharing your thoughts. 1) Most importantly, my heart goes out to your FIL. 2) I have lost a family member related to similar circumstances. 3) There are members of the community I have met who are smokers (and ex-smokers) who both invest in the stocks. 4) I do not look at them at SWAN stocks, not at all. 5) I look at these stocks as high-yielders with risk. I look at them as a strategy for high yield, given my ability to take on the risk. 6) Philosophically, I have gone back-and-forth over the years on these stocks. I used to like them. Then disliked them (for moral reasons). Now I like them again. What I have come to realize is most of the stocks investors own are no better than these companies. (And, many are quite a bit worse, they just don't have that "sin stock" persona out in the marketplace.) I have also come to realize most of what transpires these days in our world is quite a bit worse than the so called "sin stocks". So, I've stopped passing judgement. I think when one becomes an investor at all, the person is going to have exposure to certain companies that others may deem immoral. Moreover, I have come to realize that anyone who owns an S&P 500 index fund has exposure to such companies, as well, as the sin stocks are included in the index. 7) My opinions are subject to change/evolve, and I'm sure they will continue to do so. 8) It's a complex topic, for sure. I do appreciate your input and thoughts. That is why it's very important to say I'm just sharing my journey, and all of our journies are going to look quite a bit different. 9) I do believe in adult consumers choice. And, I do believe adults should be free to choose what works for them. I know, I consume more than my fair share of coffee and sweets, but it’s my choice.
What causes cancer in cases of smokers? It is possible that nicotine has nothing to do with it but the other toxic ingredients added to products by manufacturers.
@ppcian I'm sorry for your loss as well. I hear you with respect to the index funds which is why I'm basically forced, as a wannabe conscientious investor, to hand pick stocks. And sure, one could make similar arguments against defense companies (of which I do hold some ), casino reits and even fast food. But something seems extra nefarious about taking money from people who have had their brain chemistry altered by these products. I'm sorry for being judgmental, but I just wish people wouldn't enable these companies to continue to profit from ruining lives via equity support
@@CT-O Thank you for sharing. I respect you and what you’re doing. No need to apologize at all. Life (and investing), these days, is complex. We all approach it differently. I’m just here to share what I’m doing, while learning from others. Wishing you all the greatest!
I’ll try to include in the next video!!! I have been skipping the intro to keep the videos shorter (and to get to the point quicker), but I love the intro too. Wishing you all the greatest!
I'm so happy for everyone who holds MMM. How do you know my decision did not age well, however? I used that capital for another purpose (real estate), which I would say aged quite well. In a world of limited capital, I had to make a capital allocation decision/tradeoff. I'm happy with my decision. Wishing you all the greatest!
SCHD is a dividend growth ETF. I discuss the ETF in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Oz0vUKH092Y.htmlsi=xJiju0SxncOVAGop (Disc: I'm long SCHD)
@@ppcian oi, thank you for answering, i love you videos, but some times you talk about a company with an abreviation, as if everyone should know - and in these cases i get lost ))))
I'm kind of amazed you've put such a large portion of your portfolio into tobacco companies to chase their yield, but on numerous videos you talk about taking care of your health and family in all aspects, how it's such a core value to your life. You gave mini-lectures about how important it is to workout and eat healthy. Some of the products of these companies slowly kill people whether heart disease or varying types of cancer, it's not if it happens, it will happen to those who use it. They're a contributor to one of the largest burden costs on society which is passed on to the consumer in the form of taxes to pay for healthcare. There are other good choices for income and high yield, aren't these picks hypocritical for your personal worldview?
That is such a woke comment. The products of these companies don't kill people. People are rather choosing to consume them (despite the omnipresent warnings), so it's on them, not the companies. Their products might be addictive, but so is alcohol, sugar, ... Nobody forces you to smoke or consume those other products. I think you're responsible for your own life.
@@larryglobus3596 lol it's not woke it's fact. Are you a smoker Larry? Do you chew? Everyone has a right to abuse their body, but they will suffer, and you will pay taxes for their choices. most people would prefer not to have continually rising health costs and economic burden because companies want to promote people to utilize a product that does cause harm. Ian in many videos talks about how important a healthy lifestyle is, and yet now has a major position in companies who's products are purely anti-health all because of a high yield. Have you ever seen someone suffering from throat cancer? The costs and years of suffering until inevitable death? These products are primarily sold in poorer socio-economic areas and the habits can be adopted in child-hood and young-adulthood. There is a reason by the majority of the U.S. has moved away from smoking over the last 4 decades, because people were realizing it kills you faster than about anything. Nobody is saying people don't have a right to abuse their bodies, but these products kill you over-time, the same as alcohol.

If ya really wanna get technical, everything will eventually kill you. He’s also pretty heavily invested in companies that make sugary/salty snacks and beverages. I think he stresses his personal health and fitness viewpoints, because wealth without health is pretty worthless.
Doesn’t it bother you that you are buying stocks in companies that sell products that slowly kills people? This is just for me, I don’t want to own cigarette companies. I also realize there is no such thing as a pure socially clean company, I own shares of companies that sell products that aren’t healthy for people, but tobacco companies are a bridge too far for me.
