I think most RX8 were completely screwed by their first owners, the result of selling a rotary engined car to non-car people with more credit cards than sense.
@@assettocorsa0744 I've had so many friends who are somewhat car people who laugh at me for wanting a rotary because they kept blowing up on regular people and I constantly have to explain to them that almost every single one was user error. An ignorant average user who just simply didn't know better, but user error nonetheless
Can we all just say that giving 50% of the money for the car to charity is really cool? Like c'mon they could've done 20% or something but no. CT is doing half of it for a great cause. That's truly awesome man.
@@_Davepocalypse They still did it though, they didn't have to. It's like being salty that a billionaire "only" donates a million dollars. It doesn't matter how much they make, it matters that they actually give to charity
thats really, really nice to see, I hope the car goes for a lot, its not often you see big channels doing such good work for local communities and charity work etc.
It looks like the rear door from the factory doesn’t match the rest of the car, not the new used parts that were installed. Look at the side skirt compared to the fender and doors
Gotta say just about all of Alex's gripes with the 8 are specific to his. My 04' has cruise, Auto Windows, and the seat holds me perfectly. Cost me $4,800 with less than 50,000 miles
Fahads loves ones I’m sorry for your loss. I have a daughter and I can’t imagine the pain of loosing her. From a helpless stranger thousands of miles away on Maui. My condolences to you.
I bought myself an 08 rx8 and this series is one of the main reasons I decide to get one. I always loved the car but seeing it on here pushed me to buy. Yeah, it’s got terrible fuel economy and has a lot of issues but I just see that as character and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. Thanks guys, love the series and love the channel!
Hi guys. .love the show. .been following living with an rx8. I worked on the exact same project. .. But i got it done on shoe string. Paid 2700 euros all in...about 2300 pound sterling ..that included the car.. an engine rebuild. .purchase of an engine hoist. .new clutch. .new radiator. .rebuilt callipers.resurfaced discs .rebuilt omp pump.. new coils.leads and plugs .. New clutch..2nd hand replacement stereo... Of course i did it over months. ..After work. .i pulled the engine and sent it to Irelands best rotary engine guy...so i completed most of the labour. .. Your assessment of the car is accurate. . Delicate...drinks petrol. .but the best handling car out there...I've driven a lot of cars. .and ( buses and trucks lol) Im.a former mechanical engineer. . Turned bus driver. . And nothing drives like an rx8. Its a muscular beautiful ballerina of a car.. Perfectly balanced. . Keep up the good work lads
It's great to see how charitable your chanel is, I bought an rx8 a couple weeks ago it's got so much work to be done to it, and I mentioned your channel to rotary revs they were incredibly helpful I just wish parts and labor were a little cheaper lol but I hope your auction goes well.
A great series guys. I'm new to your channel, but I've had an enjoyable day watching all of the RX8 videos. Thank you Alex and the team for a great series. Oh and not forgetting Josh and co at Rotary Revs too.
I have really really enjoyed this series. I've wanted an RX-8 for years but never actually bought one - until watching this series. Best thing I have bought. Thank you CarThrottle and Alex for making me take the plunge!
Who gives a shit about bodypanel colors, when the engines is fully rebuilt? Seriously these days we see so many cars being wrapped in all sorts of colors...just get that done and have a car good for quite a while.
awsometomable imagine not understanding it means the car has likely had more hits than The Beatles? Engine/gearbox/suspension can be fixed easily. Covered up body damage not so much. Unless youre of the 'cant see it doesnt exist' line of car buyer...
I really wish I could show my friend this series , it's her favourite car, or at least it was. She'd love Josh so much. But she's not talking to me anymore. Love the series. Fahad was the same age as me when I had a brain tumor, I'm lucky mine wasn't cancerous.
it would be weekly videos of showing us what fell off, what electrical thing went wrong, and how many new interior rattles emerged. Minis are truly heaps of shit .
I can't believe how much your car has raised in its first hour. Nearly £10k. Very well done. I wish I could have bidded but that's way more than I have. Great video. :D
Important to remember that these weren't all things just to get it running, after the two little fixes and the engine rebuild which were less than £4k, he basically had it and the rest of it was spent on modifications like the suspension, exhaust system, wheels. Of course you'll need tyres on any car but they're not super expensive to fix up if you want one. I love my own personally any I got it for £1k with a £2400 rebuild from Rotary Revs and it hasn't failed me since.
Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, the colour mismatch :D You have to add that as a potential cost! Edit: Just saw to the end of the video and I have to say, my condolences. Felix now has some great history behind him, hopefully he raises a lot for charity!
My FC has the most varied MPG I've ever had. Almost 40mpg on the highway if i'm easy on it, and getting close to single digits if i'm heavy on the throttle in town. edit: Good on you for the charity work! I hope it helps and I hope whoever gets Felix cares for and enjoys a properly sorted car.
For the people that are watching this, wondering for how much it got sold for and do not want to scroll down the comments to find it, the car was sold for 14900£
Just bought one a month a go. Wicked fast car but quite a dull sound without mods. Yesterday I've installed a dual port BOV and new ITV22 (manual gapped) spark plugs. It's another car now. Tomorrow I will take her on a spin on Autobahn...
@@CJDavid-pe9ue , things will come. I still have to sell my old E39 now :) It was a huge effort to buy this car but it's effing worth it. I am doing everything myself, the car was a wreck on the outside but had a full service history and it was all done at Mazda. I already scheduled a painting and she will get the Dark Cherry Pearl (yeah that Mustang in google search) next summer along with HPFP 10mm upgrade, cobb accesport, complete intake (I will do it) . I want her to be fast but in the same time to remain a "sleeper" because I don't want trouble with german polizei :) PS: After all the hard work repairing the body, removing the rust, underbody treatment and so on, I managed to take the german MOT (TUV) without any problems. Yeeha!
I had one of these series 1 RX8’s (even in red too), and I’m not sure if it’s because I came from a V6 Holden Commodore before that but I was actually pleasantly surprised with the fuel economy. If you rev the tits off it all the time then sure it’ll drain the tank, but it’s not like you can do that all day every day anyway. I was also surprised at how little oil it actually used compared to what everyone complained about. Well done on fixing the door and wing. That’s been bugging me the entire series.
Now I'm jealous mine doesn't have those features but mine is from 2004 with the renesis rotary with 109000km and never had a problem with the engine as far as the pre owner told the truth
My rx8 had cruise control, 2005 shinka. I sold it though, and now I drive a 2104 mx5 GT. I love getting good mpg, and due to the lighter weight it feels about the same in power. Oh and convertible
This was one of the few fair and objective RX-8 pieces out there. Good job, mates! And he’s right, I HATE how my phone slides through the space in the front seats. But hey, no car is perfect, right? 👍
hmm ... the ones I had, the seats were not like that and both had cruise control. Both steady highway cruise were high 20s to low 30s mpg, mixed driving one was pretty consistently 19 mpg, the other 21 mpg. But it is high maintenance. A set of coils and plugs every 20-30k miles. Big wheels = expensive tires. All the stuff you have to keep up with to not become one of those people who blow a motor from negligence or ignorance. The car is FUN. Expensive. But also a lot of shit talked about them and rotaries from people who have no personal experience; I've owned rotaries for a couple decades off and on. 5 total cars, no bad engines. Would own another if I felt like dealing with the cost of upkeep that keeps the engine happy, but probably another FC. Don't get one unless you have the money to maintain it and the common sense to learn as much as you can about the care it needs. From knowing to red line it once its warmed up about once every day or two, premixing/sohn adapter, removing cat, cooling, fuel, and ignition systems in top health ... they are fun and actually reliable ... but if you drive it hard all the time, 9-15 mpg depending on just how aggressive you are :p (he is right, cruising 55-65 to get the 30-40 mpg it can make with discipline can feel a bit boring in this car)
So for a novice's project car who didn't want the norm of BMWs MX5s and hot hatches, is this (plus all the research needed to keep the Rotary alive) all worth it?
I knew nothing about these cars, so I really enjoyed watching it. Not the same car but did it many years ago and more cost, the end of the day, its still an old car sadly. Bless the lad who lost his battle, Really sad.
It’s one of the best channels on RU-vid about cars. I understand half of what you said because i don’t know English enough but I’m keep watching your vids 😂. Cheer from Belarus 🇧🇾 👍
It has been such an amazing series that I was feeling bad not having subscribed yet. Fixed now :D Thank you for it, it was really fun and interesting. And my question of total price from quite some episodes ago just got answered; quite fair in my opinion.
I own a mazda rx8 myself, theres a few things I would like to correct you in watching this video. 1 if you dont have a leather interior you dont slide around and you are held in the seat. 2 the later models have cruise control, and it is lovely to use.
Knights Garage wait... for real the 04 6 speed manuals have cruise control? I’m American and I’ve had the car for about 5 months and have either never discovered that or mine doesn’t have it.
Blazebeat Racing this was a junkyard car keep in mind. Getting a used one ain’t hard. Get pre purchase inspection and get engine inspection at Mazda before making a deal and service history to make sure maintenance was done
@@janprokopenko7928 not so easy, since people at bmw are fucking assholes and moved the timing chain from the front of the engine to the back a while ago. This means you have to remove the transmission and sometimes even the engine to access it in some models. Just don't be stupid and buy a newer bmw (quality drops through the basement after the 90s) they even replaced the stronger duplex chains with way to weak single chains that will break once you're out of warranty.
@@TheDr1Acula Mines an 04 545i, chain up front, still a duplex but the guides go so its just as catastrophic. I cant believe they put it on the back for the newer ones. I think audi does too. Thats ridiculous.
@@janprokopenko7928 More then capable. Just not worth it. Don't have a second vehicle to use while I work on it. And who knows what else will go wrong during the process. Crack a valve cover or break a cam sensor, and its down another week while I wait for a several hundred dollar part.
@@kolinstallman3788 yeah, they just do it to make some money, it's the same with the chain guides, they used to make them from steel, then they added a removable plastic glider to them, then they glued it on and then they glued on rubber which is even less wear resistant and you have to change the whole guide rail and can't just change the plastic glider. It's sad to see such things from a manufacturer whose cars get more and more expensive with every new generation whilst getting cheaper and cheaper in production.
I just bought My rx8 for $1,500 so I say we are off to a good start and I’ve been through your videos they are going to help so much in the near future thank you guys
