What I learned about Japanese saws is, they, (Japanese carpenters), like to cut at angles. Just like you did with that see through block. The reason behind that is, as you cut on one side, they "flip" the piece around or move to the other side pending on large the piece is. They'll cut on opposite side going back and forth between the 2 sides, the "cut" acts as a guide to the saw. It's cutting a "triangle" until the end of cut and just as you shown us about that "gauge" or tooth, it guides to finish the cut. I'd love to get a set of those Suizan saws just, the timing of your sale doesn't coincide with mine at the moment. Hopefully, later on or if there's another discount sale you might have. Never thought about the back/end teeth in that way before, something new for me. I just always used my marking knife/utility knife after using a chisel to make that knife wall. Thank you. Cheers :)

I would love to see a rob cosman style marking knife from Suizan. I use your small Dozuki for dovetailing, and I love the depth stop feature, sometimes. Other times I want to use the tip of my saw to co into the kerfs of my tails cuts to mark out my pins ala rob cosman. Could suizan provide a marking knife blade made in the same kerf size as their Dozuki saws?

Thanks for the tips. I have lived in Japan for 30 years and use saws regularly, but did not know the first tip. For the second tip, I think the situation is different in Japan, because none of the saws are shiny, they all come with a matt finish. Perhaps they make shiny saws for export because perhaps overseas customers like them that way?

As someone that has studied Japanese tools, and uses mostly Japanese tools. One problem I see most Westerners do when using a Japanese saw is that they hold it like a western saw. There is a reason the handle is so long. You want to hold the saw as far back on the handle as you can. This makes for much more accurate and stable cuts.

I just visited the link and am very pleased to say there are no tools over $50. I saw several saws I never seen before, I was very impressed with what I saw. Usually you see a saw like these and they are priced over $100. But I think he makes his money off the t-shirts $30 each. I purchase and sell screen t-shirts at local stores near me. I buy blank T-shirts for $2-3 each in bulk (usually high quality). If your paying more than $15-20 for a screened t-shirt, your paying too much. My custom t's sell wholesale to the retailer for $7 and they double to tripple that for retail.
