That was great, Andy! Really interesting to hear about your training. My cycling goals for this year are a lot more modest - a 200km ride, a 12 hour ride, ride more.
@andycultracycling

Hey, thanks for watching, it’s all relative eh, the goals get bigger but 12 hours is impossible for most people so definitely a good challenge mate 😁

Ride more!!! Want to go further, ride more often. Want to go faster, ride most often. Anything that increases volume.

You can do it John 😁 Definitely agree that riding more is the key 👍 Structured training is good if you are looking for that final competitive 5%. I'm not btw 🤣

Thanks Andy for the insights into how you plan out your training, very useful. I agree on the weight front. Always like to shed a few lbs to make multiple climbing easier and the bike feels much more alive and faster on the flats 👍

Feeding the rat love it. I spent the last year really focusing my energy on running a marathon. I just finished it in May, with the focus being on running the only cycling I did over the winter was on my wife’s peloton or the trainer, I was so hungry to get back on my bike outside and am still salivating for my 2 moderate to your standards cycling events this year.

really useful film ... made me take stock and review my own approach. I'm guessing APN24 is a good training run for your TCR event. I too managed to secure a 'rookie' place on this years APN ... excited but apprehensive as its 16 weeks away. Managed to remove 15kg since aug/sept last year ... pushing for another 10 before APN starts.

Nice mate I’ll see you there then! It will be a good way to ramp up for TCR yeah, but still huge in itself. These points are mostly what work for me but from a lot of trial and error so hopefully can help some people out. Good luck on the weight shift you’ve managed a lot already actually you must feel way better

Your route into what looks like Brighton is the one i take from North Devon. I took the Cuckoo trail down to Brighton once. Nice trail. Almost all down hill. Almost. Ive been on those roads in your clip and need to take them every time i take a ferry across to the "main land" from Dover. On one of the trips back from the EU, i did Benenden to Bournemouth during the day and by late afternoon i was able to take a train back home to North Devon. Fully geared it was close to 40 Lbs I had enough of riding at that point and did not want to ride anymore after over 3000 miles. Confirmation...it is Brighton. I knew it looked familiar. Nice ride Funny thing about Brightoon is that on the EU main land they have a similar strip that is almost identical to the Brighton seafront. It is the Ostende strip in Belgium. Calais, Dunkirk, Otende, Bruges can be done in a day. Nice ride.

some interesting insights on how to plan things out before an event, cheers - that headwind back to Pompey though! strong ride. I know I'm not going to be able to shift the weight so my training will have to focus on power and endurance for now - and the mental prep of doing something that's gonna hurt and get dark before it's over and the endorphins and beers kick in!

Just found your video chanel! I'm training for the Panceltic Ultra in July, which is quite the opposite of what i do normally xc mtb and cyclo x. I find long rides mega hard, particularly this time of year. Prefer a hard interval session on the turbo! Do you think it's necessary to train specifically for it? In the past I 've just ridden/run endurance events on very little mileage and just built up the endurance as i went. But I'm not young anymore😂
@andycultracycling
@andycultracycling 6 месяцев назад
Hey! Have you done any multi day stuff before? As in several days hundreds of miles each day? If no, then yes 100% you will benefit from training. Very strange things happen to your body and mind during ultra and you will really want to be prepared for what will come. I’d do a tester at least, like two big days with very little sleep between to see how that feels. You could do little ultra training but you learn so much about yourself doing this, I’ve broken down in uncontrollable tears before thinking I’m losing my marbles but it passes… that took me by surprise 🤣

Thanks again for motivation. The weather here in Denmark is swinging in the zero to subzero degrees range at the moment, so it still feels very much as wintertime, but hopefully it will be better soon. So I envy our +10 degrees you mentioned in your last video :-) Funny seeing footage from Brighton. I visited the city many many years ago in secondary school as an exchange stay. Lost a lot of coins to arcade machines at the Palace Pier area - now I would just like to take my bike there sometime :-)

@@andycultracycling Naa - it's very easy once you get used to it....people don't understand hunger goes away within minutes - it is just modern society is accustomed to stuffing their faces every 5 minutes which our ancestors certainly couldn't do. I was doing 4 and a half day fasts every month last year but a 36 hr fast every week is far easier to come off. I don't really do it for weight loss tbh, I do it for it's de-tox properties - the weight loss is just a great secondary effect for me.
@quengmingmeow
@quengmingmeow 4 месяца назад
I also do 32-36 hour fasts--probably the same as you. Last meal on Tuesday night, no food til breakfast on Thursday morning. One twist that I have been doing, though, is ending the fast with a workout before eating. I’m not doing this for weight maintenance; I’m doing it to improve fat oxidation for endurance events. It’s probably the closest thing to a “shortcut” that I have found. By forcing my body to use only fat for fuel after a 33 hour fast over and over again, the body is able to easily burn whatever fuel is available.
