You know I really wonder who the people are that are giving these videos thumbs down. I have used these videos to teach myself “how to swim” after a back surgery. I honestly could not swim 20 feet to save my life. TI swim videos have taken me from a guy who fought the water and made me into a true swimmer who can go 2 miles non stop. I watch these videos over and over because I like to constantly remind myself of each aspect so I don’t get cocky thinking “I gots this” Thanks!
Thank you! This is exactly what I needed. I learned to swim when I was approximately 57 years old. I’m 64 years old now and still trying to improve. I will always want to improve. It is work and fun that I love.
12“ below surface! I always saw it on free style teaching demo but no one mentioned it being important until this video. I have #1 and #3 imprinted already from daily practice. I will try 12” below tomorrow! Thank you!
I didn’t quite understand point 3 but point 2 MASSIVELY has improved my swimming technique, glide and overall endurance. Previously my arms were always extended at the waters surface, not 12” below as I do now! Thank you
I approve of this video. So many videos on here teaching the wrong thing. (I'm a swimming teacher) The easiest to fix is the head position. So I'm glad they covered that first.
Wow. This was an eye-opener. I practiced and practiced on breathing, but was still always out of breath. I did not have correct form until I watched and practiced this teaching on this video! Now I can swim longer without being so out of breath. Thank you!
I have always been struggling with my freestyle and last week I saw someone did this graceful freestyle at the beach, and I was so jealous. I've been watching swimming techniques videos and found this to be the best one! Simple and clear tips, and just the answer I've been looking for. Thanks coach Shinji!
Thank you so much Shinji, have just begun swimming after many years and your technique makes swimming such a relaxed, graceful way. I am so glad a friend told me about you. Much appreciation for sharing this on RU-vid
i will use this in my next class, i just retired and always wanted learn to swim gracefully. I joined a beginner class and the instructor recommended a u-tube video to get another perspective, I love this video, looking forward to applying this practice.. thank you
Two things I learnt from this video - extend hand 12" below surface and to lean forward - both these I put into practise and immediately I shaved off almost 2 strokes from a 25m lap. Feel so much more streamlined now..thanks!!
I love this relaxed, smooth style of front crawl! I still don't really understand how the kick timing and body roll should be performed, but look forward to trying these tips tomorrow.
This is a great video which explains the skill level needed to swim freestyle accurately and efficiently. It has been a great help for myself to understand and build this skill lever in order to keep my back from hurting all the time. Exercise if you can do it will eventually help you over come the pain of sitting on the sofa all day!
This video helps a lot. I watched it yesterday and tried the first two focal points this morning. I felt much smoother and comfortable than before. I will try the 3rd point next time when I swim. Thank you for sharing these techniques.
I don't want to win races or anything, I just want to swim as easily and as gracefully, as this gentleman does. Will put these recommendations to practice. Thank you.
Excellent! Thanks for these tips. I am swimming for fitness and pain management. Always looking for new techniques to practice in order to make my swimming more efficient and easier on my body.
I am not able to coordinate between hand recovery other hand stroke and 2 beat kick. What is the drill to Master timings. 2 beat kick drill and improvement is not talked about in your videos
Mr. Takeuchi, I learned the basics of freestyle by watchning Your and Terry's videos and implementing the techniques in them. I started with not being able to swim freestyle 5 meters, now I complete 1-2,5K sessions, albeit that is with drills (with the help of fins, center snorkel, pull buoy) included, so it isn't a continous distance. I do not swim TI (I'm not that good), it's a choppier freestyle I do currently but it works. What is Your recommendation, swim more unbroken distances or spend more time doing short intervals and drills, focusing on technique?
Seems to be using the 2BK... thanks for the breakdown I'd work more on my hand entry closer to my head giving me room to stretch it out more and keeping the extended hand not just a little under the water but slightly pointing down
1. hang your head in the water and to look down.(less drag) 2. extend your arms with hand 12 inches below the surface.(better balance and less drag) 3. insert your hand softly and lean your body forward.
I could swim 50 mtrs in breast stroke but hardly 15-20 mtrs with free style before learning two beat kick. But now after learning this technique from Shinji I am able to do 50 mtrs lap easily. The two beat kick takes almost 50% less energy than the usual flutter kick. Thanks you very much for your videos.
After practicing as promised, my husband watched me and I did not told him about your video. His response, he was happy to see me swim "graceful freestyle". I thought it was the best comment I've received after your video. Thank you very much. Highly recommended video.
this is enlightening , you sharing the key foundations for efficient front crawl Swim; clear and simple instructions but extremely effective for learning. Thank you. ありがとうございました.
You seem to swim below the surface.Despite swimming a total of 600 m most days my endurance ( continuous swimming) is barely improving. I'm fairly fit so something isn't going right.Any ideas. Thanks
Hi Shinji, How many strokes should I work on for 50m length if I want to do 2000m/40 Laps in about 40 to 45mins? Currently I need 50 strokes, I find myself not snapping hard enough during the switch, still too many strokes?! I am 1.78m, 62kg. Thanks.
