Chris it a very viable concept and outstanding drill; however, Chris one thing that will make this drill better, is for every drive(kick or not), have the driver somewhat face the basket. After all for dribble penetration to be a threat, the penetrator has to make the defense commit. (Too many times during the drill, the driver who kicks never even looks at the basket. All drills should be realistic, not just drills for the sake of running drills)
Used to be a fan of this drill, but it dawned on me that it might be hurting my team as much or more than it was helping. It was training some bad habits and unrealistic situations for my team.
Love it as a drill for the convenience, i just dont like the passer to the corner, going to that same corner, we often teach that if you pass to one side, cut to the rim and then go to the opposite side...
Great drill - will try it with my 7th grade team! Quick question the last pass out to the wing when he drives baseline - where does the passer go? If it is a pass to the slot he would go to that same side corner but with the players more on the wing (splitting the corner and slot) there appears to be no room which is why your passer seems to be popping out to the arc (?) Thank you!
I wonder, is it worth to incorporate shots for every guy on the drill? The guy who drives finishes but the group ready to go next can have to guys to pass the ball to the 2 guys who don't finish with the drive, for two three point shots or dribble pull-ups.
