Quinn I have a technical question. I have an old 2006 RT1200 RTP. Every time I do training days or competitions on hot days, the engine overheats and the engine become very noisy. Some I even have red light flashing. The fan does come on. I use Castrol 20W50. Have you ever experienced something similar with your older RT,s? Do you have recommendations? Thanks keep the camera rolling!
I recall a similar issue with my old 1150 RTP, it would get hot and then get loud and sometimes not idle very well. I tried running race fuel in it hoping it would help it run cooler, but the only thing that helped it from cutting out was turning up the mechanical choke feature. And of course, letting it cool down. So my short answer, unfortunately is yes I am aware of what you are experiencing but I was never able to find a long-term solution, just these short Band-Aid fixes in the moment. That said, I never had any catastrophic engine failures, and I beat the snot out of those things over a significant amount of training and competition.
I don’t really do much in the way of cardiovascular based warm-up because these are pretty short runs, but I definitely do range of motion stretching with my legs and upper body so that I’m loose and comfortable on the bike and controls
Generally, yes, if it is one of the main competition courses, however they do often offer what they call a “challenge course. “ and those ones usually they set up toward the end of the event and they will walk you through it, but no one gets to ride it until it’s the official runtime. That’s one of the things that make those far more challenging and require pretty damn good spatial awareness and skills.
