Mr Redeker. I think I know why you posted this now and I agree with you 100%. As a trainer of different disciplines, not motorcycle riding, I often run into similar differences of methodology. Not to say that there are no definite wrongs, but perhaps the results speak for themselves. I appreciate you and all the other content creators who try to help us to be safer and better riders. Thank you.

More than one way to bake a cake ! What is appropriate for the road, isn't necessarily appropriate for the track, and vice versa. There isn't good or bad knowledge, just how you implement it.

Very well said. This is why I take different courses. Everyones riding style is different. As the common saying goes, "There's more than one way to skin a cat". People get so stubborn in thier ways and it ends up holding them back. Great video

100%! I was a personal trainer for over 30 years on the side bc fitness is a passion of mine and the one thing I always tried to teach my clients was that a certain protocol, modality or technique wasn't 'right or wrong', what mattered if it was right or wrong for YOU.

I've been to several "schools" and each coach has his own techniques. One particular school (unnamed) has a "My way or the highway!" attitude. It's a good program. Except, I do not agree with that attitude because I learn something good from all teachers. I will soon attend a week long program taught by highly skilled competitors (names you would recognize). I look forward to being challenged and pushed beyond my current skill level. I'm sure there will be many variations from previous training. I hope to absorb the good and add to my repertoire. Thanks for your excellent coaching!

Watching you complete these 'Figure 8s' is so cool. Accelerating coming out of the turn, you lean forward , almost coming out of your seat; clutch completely out. I couldn't distinguish much about your braking, except you had one finger on the front brake, release, and friction zone during the turn. Body upright, bike leaning underneath you. I didn't realize how much shape you were in; it was like you completed a hundred crutches. Is there a video about the core muscles and getting in shape to ride.

Hey thanks Richard- yes I do come out of the seat a bit to help load the front of the bike during the short acceleration portions. As for fitness, yes throwing around the bike all day is definitely a workout! Especially at the competition level when you’re doing it over multiple days. My fitness program is pretty simple: lots and lots of burpees, pull ups/dips, mobility stretching and kettle bell swings. But burpees are the most effective. Then diet and seat time. I still spend time on my unicycle which is a great workout, and motocross training is a great workout as well. Then other random stuff that is not regular enough in my program to mention. But fitness supports everything so I am pretty religiously motivated to it.👍

Your ideas are intriguing to me, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter. :) Spot on analysis. An instructor told me, ages ago, that all instructors will teach you to the best of their ability. Not the best that can be done, but the best they can do. Unlearning suboptimal training in the face of new information can be a struggle but if we embrace that struggle then we can continually evolve to become better riders.

Another kickass video, Quinn - thank you! 🤘You're a natural, gifted teacher with a genuine knack for delivering your message so succinctly and plainly (talking WITH someone as opposed to AT/TO/ABOVE them). Fascinating camera angle, as well, because watching your fingers on the levers is a textbook study on what to do. Question, please: what gloves are you wearing? For parking lot practice, I love my Lee Parks, but am always on the hunt for gloves with excellent feel, particularly in the fingers. I only wear CE cert KP1 or KP2 when riding on the street, but the Lee Parks stay in my saddlebag for when it's time to pull into a parking lot and practice. Thank you! ✌

Hey man I really appreciate your support and your compliment- we are all definitely together on all this stuff so it’s nice to simply share thoughts and ideas 👍 my gloves ARE Lee Parks, I love them for the dexterity in all conditions- great strength, comfort, sweat wicking- can’t say enough about them. It’s all I wear for this stuff😊

Hi Quinn, this is exactly why I was asking questions about your style. Clearly different things are yielding similar results. I just saw another video from another moto channel saying never use front brake while the handlebars are rotating. You yourself do as well as the Japanese riding method at basic public training teaches to use front brake to help the handlebars rotate faster. They even teach to use no rear brake to make the turns tighter. Their use of friction zone is also different. Here’s a link to a Japanese training school in English. ru-vid.com/group/PLV2V6Bq_uvzazK-ladRfUQ1Ya-5A236PA&si=2aHJgtmfirZoVC4l The challenges for anyone trying to improve these skills finding out what does work, trying it out, and adding it to their skills library for situations that work for them.

Hey buddy, thanks for the comment and I do think it can get a little confusing out there trying to find some type of definitive answer to it all, but alas, here we are with 101 ways to do each and every thing on a motorcycle. Plenty of instructors would tell you to stay away from the front brake under slow speed and lean angle during turning movements. And based on their training and experience, there is no good reason to apply Brake in that scenario which explains why they are committed to the idea that it is wrong. But I’m not looking for the right way to do anything. I am trying to help my motorcycle maneuver with greater ease and comfort by gaining a better understanding of how my inputs i impact it. When that remains my compass, all ideas remain on the table and it becomes one big experiment to see what works. More comfort? More performance? Better control? Let that be the litmus test. There are plenty of fantastic instructors that do it completely different than I do. They are not wrong. if they have a school or instruct at a popular training facility, they’ve obviously done their homework and put in the reps to be repeatable in some process the yields meaningful results for people. And that’s just fine all by itself.

@naka - Thank you for sharing this link, man! I've always been fascinated by the Japanese cops, but muthaFUKKA, it's downright painful to sit through the videos not knowing WTF is being said. This video set is outstanding because I can finally make some sense out of it all. Seriously, thanks a million! I watched the first one ("Basics"), subscribed, and plan to watch all of them by this coming weekend.

Pleasure! I found it intriguing as most don’t talk through the steering inputs and following steps. It’s obviously one way, and there are others that would also work. This is just how Japanese public are trained.

I've found over the years that dogmatism is a poor instructor that produces lazy students. 'Never' use rear brake. Well, you may want to. Never use clutch. Well, you may have to. Never use front brake. Well, you may find it works better. So many variables, speed, surfaces, situations, so we all have to find what suits us. At the end of the day, my practice is the greatest tool, and it would be foolish to ignore good technique wherever it is found. As good as you are, you still admit this or that can be sharpened. There are a thousand ways to sharpen a knife. Not wrong, maybe better. ;)
