You only think they're peaceful because the tortured souls can't voice or express their rage at being confined to a cage as a token of life in in an unfortunate charade maintained by a psychopath in a perpetual exercise of dominion. This is no different than chaining an elephant and poking it with a stick to make it so tricks. And anyone who enjoys such activity is likely a psychopath as well.

I had a dragonfly nymph in my aquarium once. I didn't notice until it was sitting on the bubbler tubing. It shed too, then escaped through the gap in the tank. I've also had a mystery snail escape my tank 🤣 Gave me a fright/thought I was losing my mind - couldn't find it in the tank. It slimed out through the gap in the lid and fell behind my dresser. Left a trail of slime in the carpet. Put him back in the tank and he survived - gulped down a ton of water right away.

I'm gearing up to start my first planted tank, so I've been watching a ton of videos on various topics from different channels to help me plan. Your is the only channel I've subbed to, and the reasons are: 1. The daily timelapses showing the plants grow gradually (why doesn't everyone do that?!) 2. The Satie music. I looooooooooove Satie, and it's so rare to hear the gnossienes in addition to the gymnopedies. And not talking at all, just using captions and focusing on the music. Those are what makes your channel really stand out, just feedback for you in case that's helpful... since you get so many comments saying "I don't know why, but I love this." Best of luck to you; I'll be watching!

I had a damselfly nymph hitch hiker as well. It stalked around my tank and really worried me, but there were no casualties. I guess they're less dangerous than dragonfly nymphs. In the end I actually got to see it as it finished emerging, and I left it after watching for a while. I left the window open, and never saw it again. Very cool experience.

@noepeckham9648 6 лет назад
You're welcome! If you look closely, you can see the internal organs of the gourami (the yellowy bit below the lateral line). The males have the organs curving round and up towards their spine, whereas the females have a more triangular shape of their organs (these are the ovaries) with the point of the triangle stretching toward the tail. This is easier to spot during breeding though. For example, the fish at 2:36 is a male, and I believe the fish on the left at 3:00 is a female.

Hey Foo, I would really appreciate a reply I'm having so much trouble. Where do you find your plants??? I can't find any good sources for plants to start my tank (online, stores, anything), also I wanted to know really simply how you get/make your de-chlorinated water and what do you use? Love the videos.
@Cody-mu5sj
@Cody-mu5sj 6 лет назад
Paul Moody dechlorinated water comes from putting dechlorinator in water. You can find water conditioner at any fish store for 5-13 bucks. I recommend seachem prime, but the Tetra brands also work. Plants are also at lots of local fish stores. Ask for low light plants, they can give you plants such as hornwort or Java fern which will grow under most conditions

Thanks Cody, the advice you gave me was perfect! As far as the plants go I'm still stuck, some fish stores have plants but not nearly as much as foo/other channels have access too. How are the fish fish doesn’t good without water or movement or filtration? Is it the amount of plants you have?
@FootheFlowerhorn
@FootheFlowerhorn 6 лет назад
yes, the plants are the filter.

Gouramis can live in stagnant waters and plants (and bacterias on all surfaces) is the filter here

Love it, but did the gourami ate all the shrimp eggs?
@FootheFlowerhorn
@FootheFlowerhorn 6 лет назад
amano shrimp don't breed in fresh water. I haven't noticed the wild shrimp carrying eggs. I think the wild shrimp are still too young.

that was the fish flakes he gathered up and ran away with so that the fish wouldn't get it.

Why such low quality flakes? You usually give your fish the best food it seems, why not this time?

I love your drip method! I use a super low tech method (tying airline tubing in knots), but yours looks easier to control

I am loving this playlist. Three questions: 1. how did you move the tank to its new location in your home? Is its stand on casters? 2. what happens if you just trim off the top of the plant and leave the bottom? 3. how do you know that your tank has reached balance? Thanks!
@FootheFlowerhorn
@FootheFlowerhorn 6 лет назад
1. It's only a 5 gallon tank. I drained 75% of the water into a bucket, moved the tank, then poured the water back in. 2. Some plants can go into shock. Usually if you want to trim the top, you should do it where there's new growth below it. If there aren't any new growth and you cut the top off, the plant might not bounce back, or it can take a very long time. During that time, algae could take over that plant. If you trim the bottom, the plant will re-root as early as in 3 days or so. 3. This one is kind of hard to explain. I know it by experience. A tank can get to a point of crystal clear water. Most aquarium hobbyists know what I'm talking about. It's not tap water clear, it's kind of crystal, or a gem like clear water. It's when the tank is in a perfect balance. It usually doesn't last long and it can come and go... with that said, a sure way is to test the water using a test kit. Test for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate.

Love the eyes on those Gouramis; beautiful things. There was a small pond that I used to swim in in Nevada that was full of Gouramis; it had multiple little hot-spring jets coming in from the bottom and one enormous outflow from a cave; a thermometer I took with me on one Winter's day showed a steady temperature at around 88 degrees. As for where the Gouramis came from, I'm guessing someone dumped them into the pond and they bred like crazy; they were considerably larger than your beautiful little ones.

The tank is looking beautiful! Love the gouramis... so small, so cute! Maybe too many males, those guys are so aggressive, beautiful but big attitudes. (I have a blue I nearly had to re-home, but he’s calmed a bit as he’s gotten older. Just fierce!!) Thank you so much for your amazing effort with the video, it’s beautiful, informative and a wonderful treat to watch! ‘Happy ‘fishing’!

I didn’t expect these gouramis to be chosen for your tank. I think they are lovely! I started my own Walstad tank and I’m on day 6. Hopefully I’ll have a nice balance aquarium like yours soon and add some shrimps and a betta on this 5 gal tank. The Nymph if it was still there when you added the gouramis, I’m sure it got eaten after few days. Lol
