Using seasoning isn't cheating. I wouldn't think anyone would expect you to add seasoning to your shopping list for every meal. Those were some great meal ideas.
when your buying the dollar tree vegetables heat them up in boiling water dont cook them in the microwave and you'll have better results. you can get the broccoli cauliflower blend but id stay away from the broccoli cuts as you'll get mostly stems. My favorite is the pepper/onion blend, i boil them for a bit then throw them in a frying pan and cook them with some sausage.hope this helps
I do taco soup in my crockpot with leftovers chicken from the night before. I use 1 bouillon cube 4 celery stalks chopped. 1 small onion minced. 2 cups of leftover chicken. 3 cups of water. I can of diced tomatoes or 3 fresh tomatoes cubed. I can of corn rinsed. 1 tablespoon of taco seasoning. 1Tablespoon of garlic. 1 Tablespoon of black pepper. 1/2 cup of frozen pepper strips. Into your crockpot add water, chicken, corn rinsed, add bouillon cube, diced tomatoes, pepper strips and spices. Cook on low 6 hours. Top with taco shells, cheese and sour cream. Not a $5 dollar meal. But I use leftovers and what's in my pantry.
@@NoGettingOffThisTrain It serves up to 8 my husband gets lunch next day, and my father in law gets a container full. I make dinner for him so he can heat and eat.
The waffles looked great. My Dollar Tree doesnt have a refrigerator/freezer section but the one where I go to the doctor does. Might check it out tomorrow!
I love our Dollar Tree..it's pretty good and today got a big surprise..unsweetened almond milk containers..mix with one yogurt and a frozen fruit in blender for smoothie.
Please remember: the date on the packaging is NOT the expiration date, after which it's inedible, but rather the PULL date when the manufacturer wants it pulled from the shelf in lieu of fresher stock. Most of the time, the food is perfectly safe.
I was thinking that perhaps grating the cheese would have yielded better results, u could've put a bit on the soup, too. Chili on fries, maybe the other kind though, would've been an option to have too. The onions and peppers, black olives and mushrooms are my go to items every time I shop. My DT had dozens of medium brown eggs and those sausages. Breakfast casserole is good anytime of day imo. They also often have stuff for burritos or burrito bowls. I enjoy your videos. Thank you
She probably didn't want to use extra ingredients (like broth) that she thought people didn't have. The purpose of her video was to stay within a certain budget.
These are great for people on a tight food budget. I don't think adding spices you have a cheat it is a way to make all food better. Most people with a kitchen have spices on hand.
Yum! Great ideas! If you find yourself making 1 grilled sandwich at a time, lay them crust side down after you cut them so one side doesn’t get soggy if you lay them flat. My sister came up with that trick when we were growing up 👍🏻😎
I don't even live in the US but i love to watch you vids just to know what DT have in the grocery section 😂 Why not try fried noodle mix with veggies? It's delish and very filling😉
@@NoGettingOffThisTrain I'd never lived near one until recently, and I love it. Unfortunately, I no longer live by an Aldi though which is a bummer! Win some....lose some I guess!
Great tips! Some of these look good...others not so much. However, I commend you for doing these and for your creativity! FYI - you can cut tortillas into strips and either fry or bake them and add them to your soup. That and a taco mix will make it a delicious tortilla soup! You can add chives and sour create am and yum 😋.
if you guys like Mayo you can always try Mayo as a substitute for butter as well for grilled cheeses I think they come out better and they taste a lot better too. I don't technically called cheating if you have it on hand.
I love their frozen veggies! Ya gotta steam them and season with the pink Himalayan salt and black pepper 🔥. Get the gluten free tater tots. I LOVE THOSE and bake for 10 min each side
When I saw that bag of steak fries, I started screaming, "Nooooooooooo! Don't do it!" lol I bought a bag too, to make with hamburgers but when I saw the size I put them back in the freezer. I did end up using them to make potato soup so I wouldnt have to waste them. ha ha Anyway, just found your channel and I'm loving all the ideas!!!!! I just binge-watched like 6 so far. ;-)
I don't always use water for soup, even when l make homemade bean soup l use broth. With beans l start with water but add broth as the water begins to cook down. Makes it taste better, so maybe next time you make that soup you may want to try using the broth of your choice.
I made a dollar tree dinner with the ravioli and the shrimp and the frozen veggies that had the bell peppers and onions... I also made a sauce using sour cream, flour, velveeta cheese and cream of chicken. For dessert I made a kool aid pie the lemonade package you only need 1 pack and 1 container of cool whip and 1 can of sweet condensed milk and 1 gram cracker pie crust I got everything under 20 bucks
I’m new to your channel, just started watching last week and my first impression was that I really like and admire the way you adapt to how your daughter lets you know what she is and is not eating. The important thing is that children actually eat their lunch and you want her to be able to be open about what she eats. As far as meals from the tree, don’t forget about tuna melts, tuna rice, and tuna pasta made with some cream of whatever soup. On their cheese I’ve seen something there that looks like cheese slices but isn’t actually cheese and evidently will not melt. So beware about that. 🤨 The cheese you used in this video looks like regular cheddar. Also, a simple baked pasta dish (call it a casserole unless you have somebody who objects to them, then ya just call it pasta) is easy when you mix a can of Pasta Sauce along with a can of that Prego Alfredo sauce they sell. Pound of cooked pasta (only cook for half the time as finishes in the oven), a can of tomatoes preferably with some spices like basil or peppers, cut up a package of the Jimmy Dean sausage. Mix it up and bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes or you can just make it on the stovetop if you like. This recipe makes a good six servings and is good for leftovers. Btw if I had some seasonings in my cupboard I would doctor that pasta sauce up with some garlic and onion powder etc. or even a little hot sauce.
These are awesome suggestions!! Thanks so much. =) I know too well the "dangers" of the fake cheese, lol. We tried some jalapeno-flavored slices once and it was just horrible.
I would have bought something else maybe a pack of eggs and left the waffles out and made French toast for the breakfast for dinner because that’s a whole loaf of bread for 1 recipe, and plus a fried egg or scrambled egg sounds good with the breakfast plate.
Hey new friend here came across your channel. Excited to see what meals you make. I’ve never really checked out the grocery aisles at dollar tree but I’ll be checking them out next time I stop by.
I just found your channel and have been binge watching all the dollar tree vids. 1 meal I came up with from seeing what you have there is meatball subs. 1-2 packs of those frozen meatballs, 1 tin of tomato sauce, 1 packet of long rolls like a hotdog bun will work, and 1 block of the real cheese. put the sauce in a pot and heat up, put in the meatballs and warm thru, add the meatballs and sauce to the buns and top with cheese and bake until the cheese has melted. should only be $5
@@NoGettingOffThisTrain Thanks. Im From Australia and we don't have Dollar stores here. just what I came up with seeing what was at your store, I do like meatball subs but I make everything from scratch and its around $15
I've noticed that in Britain it's common to shred cheese for sandwiches. I don't know why, they do it that way, but for your skinny block of cheese that might have solved your problem. Also, the ham slices are too big for the bread. If you trim each slice to fit then position the trimmings properly you could get three sandwiches with 2 slices of ham each plus the shredded cheese, viola! If you have it, mayo on the outside of the bread makes for really nice crisp sandwiches. My mom learned to cook during the depression. She could make a good meal out of nothing and it was amazing. She would have really enjoyed watching you do these challenges. It's great to see your creativity and your efforts to find the healthiest options in inexpensive stores.
"I was kinda disappointed at how small the pieces were" lol its the dollar tree not gonna be prefect love 🌳 but gotta say i love your video and how creative you are 🥰
Dollar tree chili, big can of tomatoes with garlic and peppers (forgot brand), one can black beans, cup of rice and the DT turkey burger. 3.25 feeds 4.
When you said that the store had yogurt that was two weeks past it due date. It reminded me. About 2 /3 years ago we took our kids to a lunch and we all got milk and I was the first to open mine and obviously I took a big drink, and a second later I was puking. And the lady told what I was doing, I told her in front of the other parents that she hadto throw away the rest of the milks, but she got unhappy. The parents checked all there and there children milk, and they were all bad
Just because there is a date on dairy products doesn't mean they are bad!! It still should have a shelf life at least 7 more days, you just taste ,smell to see! You can buy them within dates & get bad also because you don't know if someone has left it out of refrigeration too long!! And if you put products in freezer they still last when thawed out!
That's so sad. That usually doesn't happen, our schools are really good about keeping up with the dates. Yogurt doesn't go bad as quickly as milk might, though
I love these vids, because I've often wanted to do something like this, but my dh goes to Walmart daily. SO annoying, because there's zero budget, he goes daily, and we have 3 fridges and 4 freezers!!! :/ Btw, he goes to the dollar store a lot too, lol!!! He brought home those Marie's muffins that you have. I thought that they were awful, but I'm a picky foods person.
I don't know if you know about home made cornbread muffins with blueberries and a really yummy brown sugar and cinnamon, about 1 cup brown sugar , 1 tablespoon cinnamon, 1/4 cup of flour, 4 tablespoons of melted butter mix in all the ingredients. leaving some flour and take your strussel topping mixed up allowing for larger pieces to spoon on top of the corn bread muffins. I used to go to a really good restraint who serve the absolute best breakfasts and each meal gets a super si,simple, cornbread blueberry stressed muffins.. to big to eat a hal so take it home. The restraunt is called the carrosel, where every thing on the menu is delicious.. to go for breakfast after church only once in a while. Salem, Oregon is Jazzing everything up and I know I would love to be back to my true home town. Salem Oregon.
Packet Corn & mushroom canned is a much better choice with pizza rather than fries n peas for me. So much choice u got there. So lucky..got 1 like the dollar store here but not much choice just buy frozen corn , pasta, lobster ball ( actually its a fishball) & scallop few mths back.
I buy tortilla shells, salsa, cheese and those little flat sirloin steaks made by the same company that makes those pork chops the dollar tree sales(male sure you don't get those bacon wrapped things cuz it's just beef slurry) and some taco or fajita mix or you can just use some chili powder and cumin and a little salt. Marande your steak with the taco or fajita seasoning or the chili powder cumin and salt over night then slice them up and saute them in a pan. Then load some on a tortilla with cheese and put it in the oven until the cheese melts then you can put a little salsa on top of it and wrap it up and eat it or eat it like a soft taco. It's simple but it tastes pretty good.
When you make chillies soup why not use fries for chillies fries with that soup you make, just beans an seasonings, your great at this it's wonderful you got it an keep what you got to maintain this ability to shop an feed
Shakshuka.....it's dirt cheap...and delicious. Eggs, Tomatoes, peppers (you can use the jarred variety they have there or frozen if desperate)...oh and jarred garlic. Some require fresh cilantro or parsley, but I used dried parsley/cilantro and served on top of some crusty garlic bread...(or garlic texas toast) yummy! Here's a basic recipe to follow from...(note the first recipe I got of this was in a little book from dollar tree!) downshiftology.com/recipes/shakshuka/ You can find almost every ingredient to pluck from the tree (in some form or other) and it's not only very healthy but delicious and easy to replicate! Love what you are doing!
You show good dollar tree meals. Thank you for that. Unfortunately the packages are very deceiving. Those fries looked terrible. Nothing like the picture on the package. And those “black” beans were not black! And where were the “blueberries” in that muffin mix? 😂 but your recipes are great though. I guess that’s why it’s one dollar.😊
Let me tell you how much I agree, LOL. The beans I can defend because my ring light was giving off a weird color; they actually were black. =) I was sorely disappointed in the fries, though!
Hello just wanted to say I do enjoy your videos give me a lot of good ideas for me I am a single person I live in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania but I made a comment before Tia like when you're using spices that you have at home you know I get cumin salt pepper paprika a lot of us will get it that's not cheating because at your household Staples cuz there's another lady that's on her I forget where she's at I think they call it the Frugal mama and she even said that's not cheating because we all have those things that we call Staples at home so technically it's not cheating but I love your ideas and you are honest about you know health issues with it with a healthy or not but keep up the good work
I agree--the frozen veggies and fruits from dollar tree are disappointing--usually small amounts and for some reason, theyare very soggy...sad...they need to find a better distributor for these products or get their present distributor to improve their items...dts
Great you can get these items in usa. Canada, the dollar tree does not sell anything in fridge or freezer at least in my area. All items are 1.25 , so I would only be able you get 4 items.. I tried this challenge and was not for us.
I wish we did, otherwise I'd be all over it! We have a grocery outlet that I did a meal plan from once and it went pretty well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-esi7hxDivto.html
