Shawn, please do a sequel to this video, with 3 collectible markets that are on the rise in the medium to long term. New Money will always be invested in collectibles, if 3 categories are on the down, then there should be 3 on the way up. Thanks

Just because someone buys something, or the item is cool or rare or even valuable, doesn't mean it's worth investing in. There needs to be a big enough potential market willing to eventually buy it from you. And collectibles investors tend to fool themselves into thinking the situation is much more rosy than it may really be, because the same emotion that drives the collectibles market also distorts one's objective judgement.

Last year, I visited an Estate Sale vending a lot of metal lunch boxes and most people got nuts, taking almost everything and leaving behind 8 of 30 lunch boxes. I thought those things have some value for the future, I didn`t anything because the price too high. After watching your video, I was going to commit a big mistake.

It's interesting on a lot of these categories, I think you will see Boomer probate estates hit auction houses over the next 5-10 years. They will be funneled to other older, still living- hoarder boomers. As time goes on, this cycle will continue and become a literal death spiral as supply increases and demand decreases, continuing to lower the value down to "curiosity" range.

V, the mid 80s tv show and mini series. bought a metal lunchbox in near mint shape. couldnt believe it. bought it with 3 other lunchoxes, metal thundercats as well, one other i cant remember and a plastic atari lunchbox...$50 for all 4 of them. the thundercats was near mint as well but did not have the thermos. sold the thundercats a bit too cheap i think as it sold almos instantly as soon as i listed it on ebay. i could have got more because it was near mint shape. i got $60 for it. one of the other ones i sold for $75 and it was beat to chit. the atari one i sold for 30 i think and the V one. i sold for $800, lol. yes, 800. i about pooped. pretty sweet find.

So.. Growing up in the 60s I watched my father’s generation (people who were teens in the Depression and their parents) collect “Cruise Line Ephemera,” stamps and coins, matchbooks, and toy/real world Rail Road memorabilia. There was always an underlying idea that this stuff would be valuable for ever. Today… 50 years later, nobody wants any of that crap. As a kid during the 60s and early 70s I collected baseball cards. I have virtually all Topps cards from 1965-1980. All collected individually from 10 card packs- even when it became easy to buy a whole series, say after 1976. I’m afraid these are losing value every day, as one generations keepsakes become another generations junk. I’m afraid the passion is gone and The time to sell is NOW (2024!)

I have old baseball packs that I have never opened from the early 80s, but baseball isn't as popular anymore. I do have a large banknote and coin collection and coins and also banknotes are still pretty popular. I can't afford a lot of the coins I bought about 22 years ago.

What about rare books? If I remember correctly, you own a first edition of The Great Gatsby, yes? Looking at younger generations, I wonder whether the same love for literature will exist in five, ten, twenty years. As a result, I recently sold 15k worth of collectible poetry books, mostly because I have my doubts that our culture is going to retain a serious interest in print as opposed to visuals, especially once AI starts being more extensively used. Thoughts?

@@user-tl7mj2bm4m Thank you. I certainly don't regret it. But rare books, as opposed to comic books, do seem to have much less volatility. As a result, the prices remain stable. All of these things including my favourite (comics) are hobbys. There's money to be made flipping but given all the stock you will hold that will never be worth anything, perhaps just buying shares or gold would be a better option long term than investing in collectables?
