Toots was so lucky to have this wonderful talent - and so happy to have the world listening to it. Piano players have a whole kind of mechanics in between their fingers and their sound. Violin players have a bow in between their musical desires and their audience. Harmonica players only have their tongue in between us and them. Toots was the greatest.
My brother turned me onto this wonderful version in the '70's, when it first came out. Last summer, I found this and shared it with him. "Remember this?" I asked him. He liked it so much, remembered it so well, he re-shared it with me and friends. It was our last Facebook/RU-vid conversation. My brother died on August 26. I'm so glad we had this, this moment of remembrance of a great song. Thank you for posting it.
I was just remembering 50 ways to leave your lover as I learned it when it came out in1976...I then remembered my favorite song on the album was this one and this is the first time i heard the live version...I'm happy that you have something so beautiful to remember your brother by...
Hermosamente sutil. Cada nota es un puente al cielo. Su voz es perfectamente suave. Precioso! De mis cantautores favoritos. La original del disco, y el álbum entero es muy bueno también
Could someone who has it within their means/powers finally upload the whole broadcast? It's not for me - I watched it on TV from beginning to end at the time - it's for the next generation. The entire event was almost (bloopers 'n all) too beautiful to believe.
THis song coloured my first acquaintance with the songs of Paul Simon. So I was lucky. The whole 'Still Crazy' album contains perfect music for a rainy summer night.
beautiful Paul .... one of our very best songwriters .... and in my lifetime ! ....who better to capture matters of the heart .... also in the running; Joni, Stevie, of course the Beatles, Joan Armatrading, James T ... I wonder if anyone knows if Paul ever expressed who (if anyone) this song is about ? (Carrie?) .....whenever I get to the line .... love emerges then it disappears ..... omg, what a beautiful way to reveal the song's essence ...... harmonica player thank you !
Love this!!!!!!! Took years but I finally got the live single of this, from this very visit to London....it's the b side of the American single of 'still crazy'. Totally worth hunting for if you love Paul simon!
Phenomenal songwriting and musicianship. And yet, I'm mainly amazed to see one of my heroes, the cool, smooth-scalped and muscular Tony Levin of Peter Gabriel and Crimson / Chapman Stick fame, in costume as Mister Rogers 🙂
What a superb group of songs on this show. Everything a masterpiece. PS was at his song writing peak in the 70's. Bridge gets all the acclaim but better quality songs in this period.
That's good ol' bueautiful handmade music, not some shitty out of the jukebox Bieber crap. Simon and Thielemans two of my favorite musicians. Hope they'll do something together again. Garga
'Steven Gadd', 'Tony Levin' (without the moustache), and 'Toots (incomprehensible)'. Did Paul ever recognize the greatness of this song as being due to Toots' contribution?
