3 Phase Panel Change

Welcome to the final touches on this warehouse that was started back in June. We finished our rough in by mid-June and are finally able to get started on the finishes. We changed this 3 phase main breaker to a 3 phase main lug because there was a disconnect after the meter. Even tho this panel has no 3 phase equipment or motors connected the customer didn’t wanna eliminate the third phase in case they need it down the road. This panel took about 3hrs to change and was definitely a pain but it’s done! Onto the next! #femaleelectrician #electrican #electrician #lextheelectrician #construction #commercialelectrician #bluecollar #electricianlife #fypシ #milwaukeetools

Please put the dead front on before you turn new breakers on for the first time. Arc flash is a nasty burn and can leave permanent spots in your vision. I'm way more worried about getting my skin and eyes burned than I am getting shocked. But amazing job. Cutting the conduits with the feeders still inside is a great skill to have!

Cutting those pipes with a hackzall is like playing with fire. I’ve nicked the wires too many times. I’ve found sometimes you can slip a 1/2 piece of emt inside bigger pipes or use a copper tube cutter. Both of these have been golden for cutting pipe with wires in it.

Problem with tubing cutters they always leave a turned in rough circular edge that is very hard to remove from empty steel EMT. Would have pulled conduit back to coupling then cut the empty conduit & debur the edges. Have used the old panel in place and used it as a splice box to feed new panel.

Found carbide hole cutters while double or triple the price of a unibit is way faster because you are only cutting g less then 8% of the KO and very little hot chips to burn you. I have a Klien 7/8" diameter that I have drilled over a thousand holes and still fairly sharp!..

@jhosk
@jhosk 6 месяцев назад
Few tips On the unibit, greenlee is good, been using the same bit for 16 years, it's a matter of how you use it. Oil, low speed, high pressure and a pilot bit. Adding a gutter can be the best thing to do in that situation. Try to avoid panels with those kind of knockouts if all possible, you may be left with a hole not needed and critters can get inside and cause havoc. If all possible pull those wires back before you take the panel off. Have seen it too many times where people have cut the wire and caused issues. Take the time to make a panel schedule, it saves lives and equipment, plus it's code. Take your time

Lexi your likely past looking at this video, but i typically predrilled a1/4" hole with a regular bit then followed with my step bit. And i used Walters solid grease on all cutting bits I also carried a used up spare step bit for guys to poor or too cheap get yhere own that would happily burn up mine. Also i recommend watching Project Farm youtube channel on step bit test All that said, the Milwaukee knock out us so much faster than the greenlee hydraulic pig of a knockout tool we used to use back in the late 90s. Half the time the thing was leaking oil and had no compression.

Best thing that I found were quality made in USA carbide hole cutters for making KO's. DO NOT purchase carbide hole saws from graingers. Spent $120 for a 7/8" & a 11/8" carbide hole cutters. One was a DeWalt with maybe 5 carbide cutters. Was another POS tool made in cheating lying lack if quality control communist china. My ten year old 7/8" Klien carbide hole cutter cuts holes faster then these garbage cheating Chinese cutters. As with unibits Speed kills, cannot run them too fast. Still have my stubby think its a 7/16" unibit that came with my Greenlee hydraulic KO set.

I use stepbits as well but prefer to use it in a pinch or on pvc boxes or plastic exit signs . Use carbide whole saw instead , goes through metal like nothing. (Klein Tools Hole Saw Kit, Carbide Hole Cutter, 4-Piece). I just have a small green Lee knockout set and it can be a pain, it’d rather use carbide whole saw or larger whole saws for bigger holes. I also use rack a tier metal shavings collector , pop that on the inside of the panel and you can safely drill into live panels . Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see you once confirming ( test) this distribution board was electrically safe to work on?? Again I might have missed the reason as to why this board was being replaced? Just because it isn't neatly wired doesn't justify scraping. Could just carry out an invasive 5year test and shorten any loose cabling? Any board swap out is governed by the the length of the incoming supply cable tail length IMO.

I just found your channel and this is an old video so I doubt you'll see this but to answer you about the unibits, I go with Greenlee or Irwin and they generally last me at least 10 years. Try going with a pilot hole, be sure to use your drill on low speed setting and keep constant pressure. That alone will extend the life of your bits. In the off chance you actually see this comment I hope that this information helps.

Given your gender as female, it's probable that factoring in the usual time spent on hair and makeup, it would have taken you roughly 3 days for those tasks alone, and an additional 4 days for the wiring work. This observation reinforces basic principles of fairness, highlighting the typical expectations associated with gender roles.

If you don't want to burn up unibits could you not use a Carbide hole cutter? They aren't as multi-purpose but it's cheaper to replace one cutter blade vs a unibit. Alternatively, if you predrill your unibit holes with a pilot hole you can extent their life span significantly.
