I play a Montagnana shaped cell made in 2007 by Cracovia Workshop Poland. It is amazing how much it has appreciated over the years since the workshop is no longer in business and these cellos are hard to find. I LOVE the sound.

Hello! Im right now trying a Montagnana Cello made by polish maker Ryszard Florek in 2009 - i couldnt find much information about him, but i read he is/was the owner of "Cracovia Workshop". Do you have infos about Florek or this workshop. The workshop is no longer in business you say?

I love the sound of the Montagnana Cellos. Their sounds are so rich and powerful, and they respond very well. Also, I like the build and shape of the cello because it is in between the shape of the Stradivari and the Guarneri. Also thanks for the great vid! This really helped! :D

English cello's such as a Forster or a Dodds, are worth a look too. They are pricey, but might be a nice surprise. I have a William Fortser modified Amati pattern cello and it's satisfactory in every way.

Watching this again years later... I wonder the the Guarneri was intentional with the asymmetry: if the player sits straight up and down, the cello leans slightly to the left so the bout being higher on one side might make the bouts sit level when playing.

It's a Ruggieri copy from Edgar's own hands, 2002. I saw the mold he used and frame but forgot the exact year. He's honeymooning now so this query will have to wait.

I feel bad for feeling that the differences are subtle in my eyes, maybe they're more clear in person? or maybe one should see a lot of cellos. Once I visited a Luthier here and saw like 8 cellos next to each other, and felt astonished that yes they do look different.

Hussein Ali The differences are subtle yet clear. Guarneri are more “rough”, less symmetrical and refined. Also, more round on the bottom. The Montagnana is fatter and shorter and the Strad is thinner and most refined.
