It’s 2.42am I’m just going bed after spending a day working on my bathroom in which I’ve used JG pushfits and I realised after seeing this, I forgot to put inserts in the last 2 pushfits before connecting the bath up. You’ve just earned my thanks, and a subscription 👍🏾

I might be wrong, but i thought forgetting the pipe inserts was a bigger problem on the hot side as the hot water softens the pipe. My sister worked in a care home where a couple popped off on the hot side... No pipe inserts... They checked a few more and the so called professional plumber company had not used any inserts and they had to shut it down for a month and movd everyone out to remake all the joints..

Hello James. Love all your videos and humour. Can you tell me, do I need to change the pipes under the kitchen sink to accommodate a mixer tap? I have the old two tap sink and taps which I want to change. There are two pipes left and right for hot and cold. I was going to have a go myself but I think it might need a plumber. Thank you. 👍🤗

Should the pushfit fitting be able to rotate on the pipe? I have a Tectite Isolation Ball valve thats connected to a dishwasher inlet, that rotates on the pipe. I’m having to replace the washer on the dishwasher inlet hose because that is leaking. Was wondering if I have to sort out the isolation valve as well?

Push fits. The thing I forgot, and now reminded Many thanks. I notice, also, that if you hacksaw a pipe you may not get the pipe squared off, have it at a slant, and no good for a sealed position.

never hacksaw. It is best to purchase a copper pipe cutter, the small one, on here is fine. I have one and it is magic as just a few turns and it is done, and all squared off, and cheap from the likes of local plumbing stores.

Mmm, not a fan of using push-fit on copper. When push fittings first came on the market, I thought great and got a range of them. Did a bathroom job and about a month later had to go back, as a damp patch had appeared on the lounge ceiling. Cut into the ceiling, as we had tiled the bathroom floor, to find the only push fitting to copper was weeping. Changed it to a compression fitting. Took the push-fitting apart to find the “O” ring had, what I can only describe as, “scabs” where it was in contact with the copper. Took all the fittings back to the supplier for a complete refund and a quote from a decorator to make good. Later they said the manufacturer said it was a bad batch of seals and paid out for making good. Perhaps that was true, but I’ve always used compression since then, when connecting copper to pex pipes.

@tirvplumbing

They can do. You find on a lot of heat pump installs if you're using plastic or mlcp over copper you have to go up a size.
@andynewton6235

When I try to cut a few mm off of a 15mm copper pipe with a pipe slicer, the end of the pipe goes out-of-shape. If you use one of those pipe inserts, does that help you get a nice cut? Loving the show, btw.
@muzikman2008

@baldyslapnut.

Both roller guides on either side of the cutting wheel need to be running on pipe when using a pipeslice. If they don't, you'll never get a straight clean cut.

Never had that problem, and cannot see how that can happen. Maybe turning the wheel the wrong way round? interesting!

I wonder if this will be answered as I have asked on numrous videos and never got an answer. What if the copper pipe you need to splice into is tight up against the wall with no way of getting a pipe cutter in behind it, and no way of pulling it away from the wall without breaking something? How do you cut the pipe? I would love to know. 👍

@richardlewis5316

I agree. A customer bought all Hep20 pipe and fittings for me to fit his radiators. I hadn't got the demount tool so had to dismantle the fitting and push them off the pipe to adjust the lengths. A total pain compared with the ease of Hughes fittings.
@johnward5006
@johnward5006 10 месяцев назад
It's not the o ring that's the problem, it's the gap left between the stop in the fitting and the grab ring! The greater the system pressure, the more likely the fitting will "creap" off.
@kieranmccreedy271
@kieranmccreedy271 10 месяцев назад
You missed a tip!!! The Hep2O pipe inserts have little bumps on the end. You then turn the pipe in the fitting and you’ll feel a rumble in the pipe from the bumps. That tells you you have enough… coughs… penetration

Deburring may stop eroding, NOT corroding (its a copper pipe) Sorry about being pedantic....
@TimmyTheSnail
@TimmyTheSnail 6 месяцев назад
Burrs on copper pipes can create turbulence in the water flow, which can lead to localised areas of increased pressure and friction. These areas can become more susceptible to corrosion because the protective oxide layer on the copper surface may be disrupted. So, deburring the pipes helps ensure a smoother flow and reduces the risk of corrosion.

These fittings akeays leak. Ive had 3 polyplumb 15mm elbows blow off. All cut correctly inserted etc, etc. Renewed the fitting, no problem. The new town hall in Sheffield was fitted with fusion weld, pressure tested, passed. Water soon found plenty of leaks. Whichever material is used, copper, plastic, fusion, soldered, welded, you're going to get leaks. Get used it and make sure you're insured.😂😂😜
