Usually I wouldn't care about if a pattern is traditionally masculine or feminine, but Christmas 2022 I made socks for my in-laws and finding sock patterns for my very lovely and very traditional FIL and 2 BILs was a nightmare. Sorting by male still got very lacy socks that they absolutely wouldn't wear. I don't care if someone else will, I'm looking for a traditionally masculine pattern. Sometimes that's just what I want to make

Brilliant! Thank you for showing how the advanced search gives the option of 'excluding' women/female from the results. Of course, the ideal situation would be that designers show their designs on both male and female bodies if they want to label a design as suitable for men and women/unisex. But this video is very helpful nevertheless.
My favorite YT videos atm are your Ravelry Roulette posts. I never understood the hype about Ravelry until I started knitting and was looking for challenges to help me grow my skills. I read through finished project notes like it’s my job lol. So much useful information on modifications or just pattern challenges. I wish more people would make notes on their finished projects on that platform.
It's rough on Ravelry to find some good male knitting patterns. A lot of women's patterns show up. Also, men's patterns are pretty boring. But they don't sell, so I think many people don't make many of them. Thanks for this video. It's good to show a different side of knitting.

The vest was lovely, but I am not up to steeking yet. Those socks were very 80s! I love that Gansey style sweater! Great roulette session. I have several men to knit for. I didn't know you could exclude categories!

Good episode. Finding patterns specifically for men can be very challenging especially if you don't want to make an Icelandic sweater, which there seems to be quite a few of those. I had the same problem. I eventually went with, what I considered, a unisex pattern. I made the Olki for my son. It turned out better than I expected & he looks fabulous in it. I enjoyed the pattern so much I'd love to have a vest in the Olki!
Gosh, I'm so glad that, regardless of how experienced you are with Ravelry, you have difficulty finding things too! It took me 3 hours to find an easy, circular yoke sweater that didn't have difficult fair isle patterns and the like! And while I love fair isle - I may even attempt to learn knitting it one day - it certainly isn't ideal for a first ever knit top down in the round sweater! Ravelry, get your website sorted! However, I love the patterns and you found and your ravelry roulette certainly is helps me learn more about how to use that cumbersome site! Thank you so much! ☃️🏸🧶🪡

One of my favorite designers that makes patterns for men is Maxium Cyr (for knitting, don't think hes done crochet patterns yet). If anyone whats to check him out!

As a guy who knits... it's so hard to find patterns that are modeled by men! And a lot of the patterns are really not made for men in mind, especially since my proportions are different from the average woman's... I started a new sweater a couple months ago and ended up with something that is going to be way too small for my biceps even though it will fit my torso...
Reddit taught me that you have to select men's patterns and then specifically EXCLUDE patterns for women/unisex to actually find what you're looking for in this video.
I'm not sure it would be better to narrow it down to garments: When I was planning my sweater for my son, I tried to find patterns for men, and most of them were with women in them and I honestly couldn't imagine my 17yo in them. So I think that might be a note to designers - that if you want to sell to men, having the front image be a man is actually very useful (you could split the pattern in two if it is unisex or something).
Being able to find a sweater designed for a man is so hard. Sweaters designed using womens measurements often dont have enough shoulder breadth for men.
As much as I really love the ravelry roulette series I do have a criticism... I don't think you should be showing all the projects people have made with the pattern. One of the things I like about posting my projects on my ravelry page is that those pictures are not viewable to people who aren't logged in to their own account unless you choose to make the pictures shareable with those not on ravelry (an option on each project page when you click Share). It's not just that you show people's projects, it's the mere fact that many of those projects are being modelled on someone who may not want their face posted in a youtube video, especially if its a child. I do love this series though I just think you should maybe take that into consideration
PS. You can actually refine searches to "Male and not Female and not Unisex". You almost had it when you just did "not Female", its that advanced option section. I got 12.6k search results when I refined it like that
