I have an infrared sauna which I modified by adding three 250-watt infrared heat lamps, and it reaches 165° and averages 160° for the 33 minutes I spend in there. I just decided to design and build a traditional sauna in my backyard which will be electric powered and lined with cedar.

The ifrareds are fine.....i like both, but i certainly understand the finn's resistance.....like you said, the traditional ones are already EVERYWHERE, so there really isn't a lack/need, plus again the traditional is more chill, earthy, especially the wood-fired ones. For people who don't want to rewire circuits to handle the high electirc requirements of traditional electrics, or do the work of building and maintaining wood fuel for the wood stoves, the infrared kits are easy to put together, they run efficiently on regualr house current without new wiring, and can easily be placed in the corner of a basement, a closet or spare room, etc.....i don't see them as either/or, but an EXTENSION of sauna culture, along with the even more ancient "sweat lodges" make right on the earth.....we need MORE of ALL of them!...

its too bad bc infared waves are so good for you! It gives the benefits of sunlight without the harmful UV.
